Why doesnt your school drop football and add baseball so all 10 teams can be in the Valley for baseball? I think this would be a good move because it would make the baseball confrence complete and since the Valley doesnt have football it wouldnt mess anything up with that.

Its a serious question. Its nice having all 10 teams in the major sports of the conference.

Football- no MVC
MBBall- All 10
WBBall- All 10
Baseball- 9 we just need Drake

Here at Missouri state we cut some sports and I think they cut the wrong ones.

The should of cut Field Hockey and Swimming. Field Hockey isnt even played here in Springfield and they dont have it in the MVC. Swimming is in like the Sun Belt now.

Track and Field is alot bigger then Field Hockey here and its in the MVC. Tennis is the biggest non major sport in Springfield, lots of people play it and we have a great complex and a World Team Tennis team.

It is my understanding that Drake Football helps out with the gender equity thing in all sports as it brings 70 or 80 males on campus which keeps the ratio of men higher, plus with no scholarships those are 70-80 students paying tuition. It actually looks to me that Drake is doing a better job of fielding teams in most sports than some of the State Universities such as MSU which doesn't participate in 4 of the sports listed. Baseball up north is not usually very successful. Iowa State doesn't even have a baseball team. A few thousand people attend football games. I'm guessing the attendance at baseball would be 50. We have the Cubs AAA franchise in town, which is probably more than enough baseball for Des Moines.

Y'know, if Drake added baseball they'd have to drop six other men's sports and add women's bowling, shuffleboard, and tiddlywinks.

No, that's only here at MSU that psychotic stuff like that would have to happen for freakin female sports.:bash:

(Northern Iowa doesn't have a men's soccer team, sadly.)

Drake doesn't need to drop football because it seems like they probably don't lose that much money on it. Not having to pay scholarships will do that. If anything they should keep football, and then look into starting other programs first. There's no need to drop a program that's staying afloat.

I think there are a million reasons why that would never happen. You could start the list by saying Drake just spent a ton to renovate the football stadium, and they have no baseball stadium or even a field.

Drake has added women's golf....I'm not sure if the program officially starts next year or the following year.

It would make no sense for Drake to drop football. There are 100-110 players on the football team, all paying $$$$$ to attend DU. Very few of them would be at Drake if it were not for football. Drake already has a far higher percentage of female students than male students, and it would be much more so without the football players.

Plus, like Mecha said, they just spent $14 million renovating the football stadium.....although that was more about the Drake Relays and (potentially) hosting NCAA track championships.

Doesn't the Valley also sponsor Swimming and Diving?
