Guard Carlton Reed, who played the last two seasons at the University of Iowa, will transfer to the University of Northern Iowa, UNI head men's basketball coach Ben Jacobson announced today.
Reed, a 6-4, 180-pound native of Waterloo, Iowa (East High School) will enroll at UNI this fall and sit out the NCAA-mandated one year for transfers. He will be able to practice with the Panthers immediately, and will have two years of eligibility remaining when he takes the floor starting in the 2007-08 season.
"We're excited to have a person the quality of Carlton Reed join our program," Jacobson said. "Clearly, Carlton is one of the best basketball players to come out of our metro area in a long time. His ability to make three-point shots, combined with his athleticism, will make him a perfect fit for our program. We're absolutely thrilled that Carlton has decided to come back home to UNI."
Reed had a highly-decorated prep career at nearby Waterloo East High School. He was named Iowa's "Mr. Basketball" and the Gatorade Iowa Player of the Year following his senior season of 2003-04, after averaging 21.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. He helped guide East High to the Class 4A championship as a junior, and a state runner-up finish as both a sophomore and a senior. A four-year member of the honor roll, the Trojans posted an impressive 90-12 record during his four years in high school.
