rainy weekend on tap for this series, ISU needs to win 2 to get back in the race, a sweep by the Shox would kill any hopes for ISU to make the top 6. ISU has not won a series vs. WSU in a long time.

Pitching rotation is going to change a bit for the Shox this weekend. Banwart (6-3, 2.55 ERA, 57 K's and 15 BB's in 67 IP) will still start Friday, but Freshman Aaron Shafer (7-1, 2.02 ERA, 46 K's, 13 BB's in 62 1/3 IP) will move to Saturday, and Sunday is TBA. My guess is it will be Freshman Anthony Capra (1-1, 1.84 ERA, 25 K's and 4 BB's in 29 1/3 IP), Matt Smith (0-0, 8 K's and 10 BB's in 14 1/3 IP), or Max Hutson (3-0, 4.07 ERA, 12 K's and 12 BB's in 24 1/3 IP). Max is from Terre Haute, but my guess is it will be Capra or a combo of the three. The change is in response to Rob Musgrave's poor outings recently. Rob has only gone five innings over his last two starts combined and has a 12.60 ERA in those two starts. It could also be Jereme Foster, although I doubt it because he has really struggled recently after coming back from bone chips in his elbow. Kris Johnson (4-1, 3.68 ERA, 25 K's and 11 BB's in 29 1/3 IP) would be a possibility, but he pitched Tuesday against Neb and I think the Shox want to start him against OU on Tues. before moving him into the weekend rotation against Illinois State.

Also, Damon Sublett has been battling mono for a while now and didn't make a mid-week trip to OSU and made the trip but didn't play against NU on Tuesday. So, I am hoping he makes the trip, but I don't expect him to do much so tell the ISU pitchers to go right after him  .

I don't expect to see Kris this weekend....I wouldn't be surprised if he pitches in a pre-determined split on Tuesday. That way he won't be over-used before next weekend's series vs. ILSU.

On the radio this am, Damon in a taped interview excerpt said he was feeling quite a bit better with additional rest. A rainy weekend may not help, though.

At 2:30, rain was still west of the Illinois state line.....maybe it will hold off long enough to get one in tonight.

Indiana St. is up in the bottom of the ninth, tied 5-5. Sycs with a chance to win it. WSU blew their chance with Schermerhorn and Gillaspie failing to get the runners on 2nd and 3rd in.

2 Ks and a ground out. Bonus baseball in Terra Haute.

You have to give credit to Brian Omogrosso. 3.0 IP, 1H, 3Ks (still pitching in the 10th). Pretty good line of relief against the best hitting team in the Valley. Anthony Capra also with some good relief. 3.1 IP, 3H, 4Ks for the Shox.

Shortstop for WSU now pitching?

WSU second-baseman/All-American reliever just scored to give WSU the lead. Here's a story about the two-way players at WSU:

Shockers Damon Sublett and Noah Krol are among the few players in college baseball who successfully combine pitching and playing in the field.

http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/sports/colleges/wichita_state_university/14448642.htm

"Baseball America named Sublett the nation's top two-way player at midseason. While he hasn't pitched in two weeks, his numbers remain impressive: seven saves and a 0.00 ERA in 12 1/3 innings. He has yet to give up an earned run in two seasons as the Shocker closer.
Even not at full strength, he's carried the Shockers with his bat at times. He hit two home runs in a 16-5 victory over Missouri State two weeks ago. Last Saturday, he hit two more homers and drove in eight runs in a 19-13 victory over Bradley.

Sublett leads the team with a .386 batting average, 10 home runs and 43 RBIs. Second base and hitting takes up most of his attention, Sublett said.

"I just try and worry about hitting and playing defense," Sublett said. "I try not to worry too much about pitching because sometimes I feel it can take away from my at-bats later in the game when I start worrying about pitching too much."

Krol raised his average from .245 to .273 before a 1-of-14 slump over the past five games dropped him to .250. He has a 3.38 ERA in 13 1/3 innings."

I think the program will survive with these two guys playing everyday.

Maybe ISU should have pitched their 2nd baseman or shortstop in the 13th. He got rocked.

Looks like a thin band of moderate rainfall is over T/H this morning.

If it keeps moving NE, maybe it will be playable out there today.

Did the Sycs have any other relievers though? Looked like they had already been through a few of their better relievers before they decided to put him in.

Pretty good day for this fan.

I won my annual pre-game trivia question prize on the second pitch.

And after a few innings of scoreless baseball, Shox break through with 3 in the 5th, 3 more in the 6th, and are batting in the 7th with 2 more in.

8-0 Shox in the 7th. INSU making pitching change.

Shafer chopping down Sycamores left and right.

14-1 mercy run rule?

Maybe the Sycamores need a shortstop who can pitch.

What is the weather forecast for Sunday in Terre Haute?:valley: :shockers:

Divergence
04-30-2006, 08:31 AM
62 degrees and 80% chance of rain. Should be 100% since it is presently raining there and doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon.

This would be very unfortunate for WSU not to get this game in (assuming they were to win it of course).
