From a NC newspaper: ". . . Southern Illinois’ Chris Lowery and Bradley’s Jim Les are all coaches N.C. State is confident it can hire at any time."

I've been to NC State, and let me tell you, it's a DUMP. As long as the people writing about programs like this just assume that any Valley coach would jump (even those coaching at their alma maters), we won't be where we want to be yet.

If I were an up-and-coming coach, no way do I go coach on the ugly, hot campus in the shadows of Duke & NC for a bunch of ignorant fans. I don't know that JL will ever leave, but if he does, it won't be NC State.

I'm pretty sure that with statements like "We can have so and so at any time" that calling them ignorant kind of redundant.

How could you get away with such arrogance and call it journalism??

If you were an up-and-coming coach, you would be hard pressed to turn down the money they are talking about at NC State. :scooter:

I hope neither go. I think that Lowery should definitely not leave. He has a lot more going for him here at SIU than he would at NC State. SIU has a chance to be a top 25 team next year at least, they will be one of the top teams in the Valley and it would be a horrible decision for Lowery to leave. Now with Les it is kind of a different scenario, I could see why he may want to leave. Les is a good coach and if O'Bryant doesn't come back, one could see why he would want to leave. Bradley loses a lot of good players, but Les is a player's coach and he can bring some talent back to Bradley. I think he is a better fit for the MVC and the midwest then he would be in the ACC, but best of luck to Les and for the sake of the Valley I hope he stays in Peoria.

The actual list of coaches NCSt could sign at any time:

Mike Cohen
Scott Thompson
Randy Smithson

That's 3 MVC coaches (well, former coaches) who MIGHT be interested.

NCSt is looking more and more like a career-ending job. They might as well hire a guy with the proper credentials.

I'm not worried at all, either about NC State calling or about JL going to NC State. My point was that it's ignorant for anyone who covers college sports and actually KNOWS anything about Lowery or Les to think that NC State (which is a dump and would not offer one of those two a 2-mill package) could hire them away from the MVC at will. The people over there are delusional.

Of course, many thought hiring a guy with absolutely zero college coaching experience for a head job in the Missouri Valley was dilusional, and, rightfully so at the time.

I personally don't feel NC State is near the dump you believe it is. Peoria/Bradley isn't the best place in the world, nor is Carbondale/SIU.

do you want a coach that is bad enough that nobody else wants or a coach that provides results and other teams want? Obviously the optimum is a coach that provides results and that nobody else wants but that is not reality.

Barry Hinson is a good example. He has teams that consistently are fairly good but does not get bigtime results. If he manages to get Ms. State to the promised land then he wil likely get looks. Ms. State fans are griping continuously that Barry is not good enough to move on or bad enough to be let go.

Have to disagree on this one. I spent a lot of time there (my first job out of college required me to visit most major universities in the Southeast). My fist reaction to the place was that I couldn't believe this was an ACC campus (having seen UNC, Wake and Duke). The place really looks like an overgrown community college. No architecture to speak of, lawns that were not kept, etc.

Bradley has a much more attractive campus. It's compact, clean, has some interesting architecture, well-groomed.

I know this isn't a big consideration for coaches, but for me, seeing the NC State campus explained why that place doesn't compete with UNC and Duke. The atmosphere is night and day.
