Just said the MVC gets 5 period. Is this some kind of bizarro world thing?

I know. Bilas had some "good" things to say this morning. I say it's about time.

Here's another really nice article on the Sporting News.

Valley is now at the NCAA peak
March 3, 2006

The Missouri Valley Conference has made it. Made it to the big time. How do I know? Because they were the top story in a gambling site's e-mail newsletter I received yesterday. .......................

Now Bilas says 5 no doubt. Also backs it up with facts.

Of Course Digger gets pissed and says no chance. No facts of course he just says no chance.

Digger said that he wants to see that. So lets show him. What will he say we go 3-2 in the first round with 4 of them having lower seeds (2 pulling the upsets) and then atleast one in the sweet 16. Lets see what he says then....

If you guys see Digger wearing a brown tie tomorrow than you know someone finally shoved that highlighter where it belongs!

I think it's funny they mention 5 too. Only because when the Big 10, ACC, Big East, and Big 12 gear up for their tournaments next week, we'll hear all the talk about "teams who finish at least .500 in the fill-in-the-blank highest rated conference in the country ought to be in the NCAA Tournament!". By this time next week, 4 of our conference teams will be brainwashed into thinking they have no chance to be in the NCAA bracket on March 12th. Only Wichita State and the winner of Bradley-Southern Illinois will be guaranteed slots. Even when we were only getting 2 bids prior to last year, our regular season champ has always gotten the respect of inclusion into the field. By Saturday night, March 11th, we'll see if all this "Valley Love" is real or imagined. It is nice to play a week earlier than the Big Boys, but it leaves the door open to be forgotten. Then again, we don't get run over and ignored in our title game because an SEC semi-final came down to a last-second shot in overtime!

A question was posted in another thread about #1 seeds in the MVC tourney. The last #1 seed to win the tournament was Illinois State in 1998.

Good point Hail. This next week will give everyone time to put other teams ahead of Creighton, MSU, etc. However, the committee won't be worried about that. They have a job to do and will get it done. All we have to do is trust they do it correctly. Based on recent history, they will. I have a hair of doubt because this is an almost all-new committee this yr, but I think the MVC will get at least 4, likely 5.

Welcome aboard MVC Fan! I think the committee really does a good job in selecting its teams. I think they get a little wacko when they make their seedings! However, I know they say they watch many games over the last 2 weeks of the season. Whether or not they watch these games with the "mute" button on is up for debate! Still, they don't get too wrapped up in the televised games during selection weekend, since their job is to set the field and figure out where these teams will play. Probably the easiest selection to make is the Preliminary Game in Dayton. It's usually pretty clear which 2 teams end up there.
