Okay, this may unify us.....if only temporarily.
Who is the highest ranked opponent that you're school has played on it's home floor?
Not meant to be another SIZE or LEEEEEEEEENGTH contest, just thought it might be something we could all contribute to.
Name the school and give it's ranking at the time your school played them at home.
Good ? I don't know exact years and such but I would have to say SIU's and all the valley for that matter would be, ISU-Larry Bird years and BU-Hersey Hawkins, Jim Les' banner year.

For Drake, I'm guessing it would be Cincinnati during the Oscar Robertson years....they were probably #1 at some point when Drake played them.

I remember CU beating Sam Lacey and his #5 N Mexico State team in the early 70's. The SRO was monsterous at the old Civic. I think they listed the attendance at 11,000+ in a place that held 9,500.
I'll have to look at the media guide for others but we can't get a ranked team to give us a sniff anymore. Beat #18 Okie State here in 1998 and no other ranked team will even show up now.

Just doing a quick look up - this is what I came up with for top 10 teams since 1960 - I may have missed some since I did this in a hurry. These rankings were at the time CU played them that year. They obviously would have changed later (i.e., Indiana St. #2 at the end of the year).
Also - there were many, many games against top 20 teams at home and on the road.
54-55 - 9 - Marquette
60-61 - 5 - North Carolina
61-62 - 2 - Cincinnati
65-66 - 10 K State
65-66 - 9 Bradley
66-67 - 6 New Mexico
66-67 - 5 Houston
70-71 - 9 Jacksonville
70-71 - 2 Marquette
72-73 - 7 Houston
74-75 - 5 Marquette
77-78 - 4 DePaul
78-79 - 5 Indiana St
81-82 - 7 Tulsa
83-84 - 4 De Paul
Then comes alone ESPN and the big bucks.

Indiana State in the Larry Bird era was ranked #1 for the last half of the season. I assume the some Valley teams played ISU dring that last half of the season.:sycamores: :valley:

As far as home games go, Bradley played and beat #1 Cincinnati on January 16th, 1960 by a final of 91-90.
They also played #1 Cincinnati on January 17th, 1963 and lost 52-46.

When I was in college at UE in the mid to late 80s, I know the Aces played DePaul down to the wire when they were #1 or #2. I think it was Marty Simmons and Scot Haffner's first year there. I know the Aces were still in the MCC at the time, but they did play them at home.

According to the WSU Media Guide, WSU was ranked No. 1 in 1964 when they beat Drake 71-60 in Des Moines

we are going to talk about home records now?
i think some other team has had some recent success at home?
I couldn't find a list of ranked team siu has played at home? I looked in the media guide but maybe I missed it. Anyone else have any luck?

Is this Carbondale? Pretty trees - kinda like some of the little burgs in Arkansas that use all the lakes down that way to draw tourists.

That is campus lake. On its best day ever. Cedar, Little Grassy, Rend, and Devils Kitchen are much much prettier.

This is not a bad start, and for the most part, we're keeping it reasonably civil.
I'm real curious about some more extended histories of some of the schools.
Great job, True.....good, comprehensive history of CU's past. Ditto for DaShox.
Drake, UNI fans, some of you others, it would be real cool to see a history similar to these.
What the hell, we've got all summer. Keep looking and keep posting. Maybe we can eventually send it to the league office and suggest it as some sort of a marketing angle. :valley: :valley: :valley: :valley: :valley:

There's a few connections you might try......at least one of them is a grad assistant.....maybe it would be a good project for a GA if the information isn't readily available.

A little off topic, but I remember just a few years back during Korver's last year at Creighton when they came in to Roberts ranked #9 and UE pulled off the upset. It might've been Creighton's first in-conference loss. I always love it when a valley team is ranked.
What does everybody think of my new signature??

I know that the opening game in the SIU Arena was a 78-55 defeat of Oklahoma State, and I remember a defeat of #2 ranked Louisville. I will try to find the rest.

SIU is 15-15 at home over "high-major" schools, I do not know the rankings of those schools at that time though. SIU has had 7 undeated-at-home seasons.

Somehow I never featured Heaven as a high-humidity place with an ideal breeding location for mosquitoes.

Yes, back when a Valley team played 16 games in one season ranked in the Top 5 in the country. 22 games in the Top 10.
I guess I would want to ignore it too if "my team" has never even been in the Top 5 or even the Top 10 for a single game.

A few years ago, the Panthers took out then #13 Iowa. Trying to remember if we ever had a victory over the Hawks when they were top 10.

The jays were ranked #9 in 02-03. Then Southern beat them (I think.)

UNI beat Iowa in the Dome when they were ranked 10th a few years back (the Reggie Evans / Luke Recker years for Iowa). They turned out to be highly overrated, and UNI didn't have that great of a season, but it was certainly a benchmark.
Iowa was ranked in the top 5 several times in the 80's, but they didn't start coming to the dome until 1990 I believe. I don't think any other top 10 team has ever come to the UNI-Dome.
