That's what he gets for letting the (then) wife pick the names when she was still in the block  Regardless it's good press for Wichita State and Vandy/'Nova/etc.

I've got to call BS on this. I think Mr. Willis would gladly wear a shirt that says "I love BJs". Hell, what male wouldn't???

Oh well that opens up quite a few more celebs for WSU. LOL List could get even bigger if you include a few who aren't from here but visit now and then. Sure Harrison Ford is only here every so often because he flies a Cessna....but that makes him a WSU fan in my book. LOL ;)

Well, SIU will always have the Belushi brothers, and they really went to school at SIU.
Locals that made it big? Jeez, that list could go for a while for ANY Valley team. SIU now claims Gene Hackman, Gary Gaetti, Jerry Sloan(ripped from his valley alumni due to being closer to SIU  )
This is so funny

Yeah, famous people from your city does not count here, otherwise, Omaha would wipe all of you:
Marlon Brando
Fred Astaire
Henry Fonda
Gerald Ford
Malcom X
Nick Nolte
Max Baer
James Coburn
Tom Brokaw
Paula Zahn
Rosemarry Clooney
Bob Gibson
Ahman Green
General John J. Pershing
Andy Roddick
Chris Klein
Johnny Rodgers
Nile Kinnick
Eric Crouch
Gale Sayers
Wade Boggs
etc
However, to the best of my knowledge, none of them are Creighton grads....

Yes, born in Wichita, raised in Omaha (graduated from Omaha Central), went to KU. Oddly though, in an interview I saw on ESPN Classic, he calls Omaha his "hometown". I wonder why? :naughty:

That's a pretty sorry list, with the exception of maybe 2 or 3, it's going to be hard to put them on the same level of celeberaty as Jenny McCarthy, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, and John Goodman....and leave off the people who are dead or were famous 50 years ago.

WSU fans really need to make up their colletive minds! Does history matter?
Some say yes when it is benificial, when it interferes with the collective hives opinion then it is to be mocked.

Joe Carter becomes the first player since Bill Mazeroski to clinch a World Series title by hitting a home run. Only the second Series-ending homer in baseball history, Carter is the first to hit a come-from-behind, World Series-winning homer.
In 1994, Carter became just the tenth player in major league history to hit 300 home runs and steal 200 bases.
At Wichita State, Carter was The Sporting News's 1981 College Player of the Year and chosen the #2 draft pick.

History is important. But it is just that -- History. It does not show what is happening NOW. And now is much more important. I agree that WSU has to capitalize on its success, and we will endeavor to do just that. And I agree that there are valley schools that have a better track record in post-season play than does WSU -- but again, that's History. Let's just all agree to look forward and not back -- then history (and this stupid debate) won't matter so much.

By this criteria you can't count Gerald Ford as being from Omahaha. He was born in Omahaha, but lived there a total of TWO WEEKS before his parents seperated and he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan with his mother. Those darn meddlesome facts.
Additionally, Malcolm X spent only a year or so in Omahaha before his family was forced to move due to death threats.

Henry Fonda was born in Grand Island, but did some theater acting in Omahaha.
Tom Brokaw is from South Dakota, was only in Omahaha when he was at KMTV.
Paula Zahn was born in Omahaha, but grew up in Canton, Ohio and Naperville, Il.
Nile Kinnick was born in Adel, Ia, and only moved to Omahaha before his Junior year of HS.

The only thing positive about Springfield is it's proximity to the Ozarks and the Ozark Lakes. If you enjoy outdoor activities then about the only thing you CAN'T do in the Ozarks is snow ski.
If you like to ski then might I suggest moving to Omaha to ski thier wonderous Crescent ski hill just outside of town. For you WSU posters who have never seen Crescent, just imagine that dirt hill at Sedgwick County Park with a couple snow machines and a lift.
Man, chalk up another advantage to Omaha, the Manhattan of the midwest.:innocent:

These city-wars are good entertainment. I think most of us like our respective cities (except for maybe SIU fans). I will live in Omaha for my whole life if for no other reason than for the College World Series. If the NCAA thinks it's a good place (permanent home of CWS, soon to be permanent home of volleyball, wrestling final 4, basketball regionals) as well as the United States Olympic Committee (swimming), then it's OK by me.

So let me get this straight, when used for MSA/CSA population statistics, and thier accompanying VT debates, you want to include IA, but you don't want to include it for select other things?

Please point me to any post I made about including Crecent, Iowa in MSA/CSA figures or anything else for that matter....
By the way, Crecent's population is minimal and would not make a noticable difference in such stats anyway.
