Now that some time has passed, whats the feeling towards Gene? Are Shocker fans pissed about the OU debacle? Are they mad at Gene? OU? No one?

Nah......always loved the guy. As Don Beggs stated recently (rumors about Schaus interest in New Mexico AD job):
I don't want to stand in the way of opportunity.
I'm glad Gene recognized it for what it was.....a crooked program in the Big XII that had way to many hidden problems.

OU was ranked 25th? That seems high, I thought they lost all of their talent.
No they have almost everyone back, including 12 seniors.

According to the news last night, there was nary a boo when the team and coaches were announced.
No signs, no heckling.
To put it bluntly, I'm shocked.

In the game where Gene returned to where he was HC for about six hours, his squad took the Sooners to the woodshed late, with several runs scored in the late innings. Shox over the Sooners 12-2.

It feels good to hammer those punks from Norman.

It has been great to see the MVC getting its due in basketball this year with discussion of 4-6 teams making the NCAA tournament.
But we should remember that the Valley has been no slouch in baseball either. Congratulations to the Shocks on the win over OU and here's hoping the entire Valley can show success against the BCS conferences all year.

Nice win for the Shocks. Hopefully they can take care of business at home when OU arrives. There will probably be some bad blood for a few years between the teams.

Why would there be any bad blood? Hardly anybody cared at OU. Shouldn't be any bad blood between Sonny and Gene because Sonny owes Gene bigtime.
In fact there were quite a few people with Gene S. ties from his OU period (former coaches and players) who came to the game to meet Coach S.

No pun intended, of course. :D
Glad to see WSU take it to the Big 12!

It was a great game. There were probably 300 Shocker fans there and not too many more OU fans.
There was one heckler on the outfield and a couple along the third base line, other than that the OU crowd (if you can call it that ) was pretty quiet.
Acccording to many of the Sooner fans there, it was the biggest crowd at an OU baseball game that many of them had seen in a long time (a couple of them said it was the largest crowd that they had ever seen).
It was a perfect afternoon for baseball, sunny and about 80 degrees.

Living down here in OKC, I figured the game would at least stir up some emotions, but I was dead wrong. There was not even one word in the Daily Oklahoman talking about the game on the 28th. I didn't get to see the paper yesterday, but I doubt there was much in there either. Things got stirred up for a couple days last summer on the sports station here, but that was about it. I don't think anyone else really noticed. Anyway, good win for the Shox.

Maybe I was reading into it but this was pulled from the Wichita Eagle:
But Stephenson said he had not talked to Golloway since the whole episode last summer.
Golloway said he felt strange coaching against Stephenson, something he had done six times previously as coach at Oral Roberts and interim coach in May at OU after Cochell stepped down.
"No doubt, it was a different kind of feel, a very uncomfortable situation," Golloway said. "Is that honest enough for you?
"Everybody knows the circumstances. I don't think it's necessarily anything from our side, but there were some negative comments made (by Stephenson) about our program after the fact that I just don't appreciate and never will appreciate."

See, OU has a football team and people care about it a lot. In Norman it isn't like Wichita where only Shocker baseball matters. Gene deserved worse, I'm sorry he didn't receive more from the crowd.

You may not have heard, but WSU also has a basketball team. There are rumors this team might even play in the post-season of some tournament in March. There are suppose to be 64 other teams in it.

My point is that other sports take precendence over baseball at OU while at WSU baseball is king. Even with the success of Turgeon and Co. this year, baseball is still what people think of when they think of WSU.

Last time I checked, football season was over. OU pretty much has crap support for their consistent top 25 men's basketball program as well. They really don't have that great of attendance at home, with the exception of big games such as Texas, OSU, or KU.

Your still wrong. Yes, WSU fans support baseball real well (more than most other colleges), but basketball is King at WSU and always has been, even when the program has been down.

I wouldn't disagree, but your tnow comparing apples and oranges. National perception is very much different than Fan and Community support. The fans and community get alot more excited about Basketball than Baseball.

That may be true with a lot of fans especially the bandwagon ones that have shown up lately.
I have rooted for the Shox since the early 60’s and want to see them do well but for me once baseball starts my interest in basketball diminishes greatly.
Baseball is the greatest sport ever invented.

I would agree. The Attentive Deficit crowd may hate baseball, but there is nothing better than a 2-1 thriller with all the strategy and suspense.
