I just checked the NCAA recrod book.
Creighton does have 13 regular season championships (including co-championships) if you go back to the 1930s.
1930, 31, 32, 35, 36, 41, 42, 43, 78, 89, 91, 01, 02
I will tally up the rest of the valley for your intellectual pleasure and post later this a.m.
I believe that the equivalent of NCAA Div 1 started in 1945 0r 1946.
Is the 1930s the rigth starting place or should we start later?
Last time I checked Bradley was in the NCAA tournament in 1996 too.
Streaks. Bradley did play in NCAA tournament in '96, but AP got injured in '97 and it was off to the NIT again. The '95 team was good, but not good enough.
As long as they are showing old Final Four apperances, Bradley has a couple of those.

The NCAA record book says Division I started in 1948.
Since 1948, Creighton has 5 MVC championships.

Actually, I think that you could make a case for a "modern era" in college basketball. When that would be, I don't know for sure, but I would probably put it at just after the Magic-Bird finals. Looking back, I think that things have changed since then, probably not for the better.

Ummm, it wasn't completely accurate cause Bradley was in the NCAA's twice since 1994, not just the sweet 16 run last year.

I think the "modern era" of college basketball coincides with the advent of cable TV and the TV money that has poured into the sport since then {along with the opportunities to be on TV a lot}. Thus, you are probably looking at about the 80's on IMHO.
You can also add a "NCAA Championship Game" category and put 1979 Indiana St. in it.

Actually, he said NCAA Tournament Streaks since 1994 and posted year - year streaks....but didn't put a year on Sweet 16's, so you sir should read before you post!
Plus he tried to manipulate data in favor of CU by selecting only years that suit his needs....Let's just look at the entire history of the MVC, or entire D1 history of each school...CU had a nice little run in the mid to late 90's and early 2000's, unfortunatly it's coming to an end now.
The sad part is even by manipulating data CU still has no Sweet 16's, going to the NCAA is great, but win some damn games for God's sake!... :(
I love basketball history, so I thought I'd keep this list going.

My take on the modern era would be sometime when UCLA began to dominate, late 60's early to mid 70's...Jabbar, Walton..Elvin Hayes from Houston..Jr Birdgman from Louisville..David Thompson from NC State ... etc....that in my minds eye was the beginning....

If you are keeping Tulsa and setting the start at 1948, then Cincinnati and Louisville should be included or Tulsa should be dropped.
If you are starting talking 80s on, then you would keep Tulsa and dump the old guard.
Either way, it is a nice collection/history for the Valley.

MVC Tournament Champions since 1977:
CU - 31% - 1978,1981,1989,1989,1991,1999,2000,2002,2003,2005
This is a bit confusing. Oh, it's the auto bid out of St. Louis. I actually misread that as being the actual league champion those years.
So, what has the winner in St.Louis almost 1/3 of the time done with the auto bid? I think these are the results. Correct me if I am wrong.
1978 - one and done
1981 - one and done
1989 - one and done
1991 - one and done
1999 - one and done
2000 - one and done
2002 - round of 32
2003 - one and done
2005 - one and done
Way to represent.
I'm not basing this on research. I'm basing it on the fact that CU fans have pointed out their last S16 was 1974 and CU fans correcting a "one-and-done" post about the 2002 team. I haven't heard a cricket chirp when the remainder of CU's post-season results have been mentioned, so I'm assuming they're all "one-and-dones".
I'm really hoping there are some more "round of 32" seasons in there. The list I made has CU 1-9 in the Tourney in the years they've won the auto bid.
Just off the top of my head I remember these MVC results since 1978
WSU E8 - 1981, S16 - 2006
MSU S16 - 2001 (??)
SIU S16 - 2002
BU S16 - 2006
Please tell me I'm wrong in at least 2 of the years CU got the auto bid. That would put CU at 3-9 in the Tourney.
Then when other teams report some Tourney wins I think it's going to be obvious that CU has won the auto bid almost 1/3 of the time and is pretty much in the middle of the MVC for Tourney wins since 1978. The teams ahead of CU in Tourney wins will have had fewer opportunites and won more games.
I can't believe CU fans are pointing out how many times CU has made the Tourney. The Valley has 4 S16's in the last 6 years.
Please let there be some more "round of 32" games in Creighton's resume. If WSU won the auto bid 1/3 of the time and went 1-9 with it - I would be hanging my head in shame.

I would say the start of the modern era was in 1948. There were fairly dramatic changes to the game in the 60's when freshman were allowed to play varsity. When dunking was allowed, and when the 3-point line went into effect. I would guess those would be your cut off points.

Modern Era vs. TV Era
The modern era of college basketball began with Division I in 1948. Most people lump the term modern era in with the advent of television. That being the case, the tv era for college sports did not begin in the 1980's with cable tv. The fact is, and most experts agree, the genesis of college basketball on tv began on January 20, 1968.
The Game of The Century
Featuring the nation's top two teams and two of college basketball's greatest players of all time, #2 University of Houston met #1 UCLA in college basketball's first nationally televised regular season game on January 20, 1968 in The Astrodome before a then-record 52,693 fans.
January 20, 1968, ah yes what a great day!
UCLA (13-0) had a 47 game winning streak while the Cougars (16-0) had won 17 straight and 48 consecutive home games.
Months earlier, Houston and UCLA had met in the 1967 national championship semifinals. It was Elvin Hayes vs Lew Alcindor. Hayes' 39 points & 15 rebounds led Houston to the win and broke the UCLA 47 game winning streak. This was the genesis of college basketball on television.
