Former Drake golfer Zach Johnson has made the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

I didn't know he played at Drake. Johnson is a solid player and it is nice to get some "new blood" on the Rider Cup team.

Johnson and Verplank are up 2 after 15 this morning....unfortunately, the other American teams today went 0.5 and 2.5, so the Europeans are up 7.5 to 3.5.

From yahoo sports:

Things can change quickly in match play, but through nine holes Saturday, Johnson was pretty much the only one playing well for the Americans, who were in danger of seeing this competition spiral out of control.

The Americans are just going to get thier butts kicked again.

Johnson just chipped in for birdie on 17 to give the Americans the win.....still trail overall 7.5 to 4.5

Until Tiger Woods actually shows up for one of these things, he can't carry Jack's jockstrap. I guess the paycheck just isn't enough for these losers to care.

Tiger was 3-2, it's not as if he sucked.

It was the rest of the team, especially Phil the Phlop that sucked. :banghead::bash::doh:

I don't care what his personal record was. Great players make teams better. Tiger doesn't seem to do so.

The sad thing is I think thats Tigers best performance in a Ryders Cup.

Maybe it's time for a change at the top.....Lehman doesn't seem to be a real good motivator.

There will be a change at the top but not because it was Lehman's fault. I think Lehman did the best he could. The Europeans were simply a deeper team and what worse for the USA a younger team overall. The fact is if Tiger, Phil and Furyk didn't play well the US would get killed. Besides Verplank (who only played in two matches), Tiger had the only winning record. Phil was terrible – I don't think he really cares after the majors are finished – he just shuts it down. Furyk carried Tiger on the first day but didn't play that well after. I thought Henry, Taylor and Johnson played ok. Campbell was a big disappointment. I like his game but I don't think it is suited for match play – Campbell is not a strong putter. I don't know what happened to Toms. DiMarco didn't play well – perhaps Phil rubbed off on him. Cink didn't do much till singles play.
With Donald, Casey, Garcia, Westwood & Harrington – the Euro side has a strong nucleus. Couple that with the fact that Monty always plays well in these things, Olazabal is no push over in match play and Clarke – that is a stacked team.
Unless the US figures out the first two days of play, i.e. the team matches – it will be a while before they take back the cup.

With regard to Johnson – he earned two points (a win and two halfs). Not bad for your first time.

Tiger played fine, Mickelfat is pretty much a loser. Tubby is never going to win another major after his US Open debacle. I would just assume Mickelfat stays at home every other September and enjoys his favorite pastime, eating.

DiMarco did not help any either.

Mickelfat brings the whole team down because contrary to popular belief, nobody likes him. He is the most hated guy on tour.

I agree.
Can everyone get off Tigers back(meaning more the national media). It is not his fault Furyk put him in some bad spot in the alternate shot. The man needs help, he cannot do it all by himself. The US team needs a player like Dailey, yes i said Dailey. He will bring some of that fun loving attitude they don't have. Just play him in fourball and not in alternate shot and he would work out good. JMO though.
