UNI Director of Athletics Rick Hartzell was "ON PRESS ROW" today and announced that UNI will open their MVC season at home on Dec. 27 and that game will be against the Bradley Braves, and the biggest news was that the game will be on ESPN.

Our local sports talk guy said something about an MVC-ESPN package being a record number of games on their network this year. I am interested to see the who and how many.

I heard that it was in the neighborhood of 18-20 games...now, not sure if that counts ESPNU but I dont think it does....

I'm sure it counts the U and that's probably where most of the games will be put. Forcing so many of us to go find a sports bar that has it.

I agree completely and Id say its a safe bet that most of the games will be on ESPNU. Id be very surprised if they manged to fit 18-20 MVC games on ESPN or ESPN2 considering how much of their airtime is already sucked up by the BCS teams.

'It\'s kind of like the home and home discussion to me.\r\n\r\nMaybe we, as a conference, should hold out for the mother ship and not accept any coverage on ESPNU. If we do, aren\'t we simply whoring ourselves out for the all mighty dollar??? I mean, if we accept this, we will never get on ESPN will we? Why would they want to put us on ESPN if we settle for ESPNU? I am looking forward to replies from many of you.\r\n\r\n\r\nYou have to start somewhere, imo. That many games, on any network, is a step up from what we have been getting. It is also going to increase our chances of showing up on College Basketball Tonight and Sportscenter. Two programs on the main channel.\r\n\r\nGuess what? That\'s good.'

Given the type of draw that WSU got last year, there is no doubt in my mind that there are 4 teams capable of reaching the round of 16 this year.
I actually think that SIU has the worst of the 4 chance to get that far, only because of their offensive struggles which certainly have a chance to be fixed this year. CU and WSU both have a size issue problem against BCS types and MSU has "get over the hump" syndrome they have to deal with.

I agree with this asessment. I think the top 4 Valley teams will all go to the Dance and maybe 2 in the NIT just like last year. (Even with the NIT field reduced, I still think the Valley can get 2 in there). Right now Im gonna say that CU, SIU, WSU and MSU all go dancing and the 5th-6th spots in the Valley and a possible trip to the NIT is totally up for grabs. At this point I think CU has the "best" shot of a S-16 appearance, but it wont surprise me if SIU or WSU gets on a hot streak in the tourney either. What I am also lookin forward to, is seeing what Gary Williams says THIS year when 4 more Valley teams get in and his team stays home again
I get ESPNU on my cable system.
One advantage of ESPNU doing the game is that ESPN will get the highlights easier if warranted.
Thanks for the opening post about the BU/UNI game. I'm not sure how much I really want BU on national tv this year since it doesn't look too good for the Braves right now. I guess I shouldn't complain.

Once again, call me drunk on Kool-Aid, but I don't see too much doom and gloom in P-town. Zach Andrews, JJ Tauai, Danny Ruffin, and Will Franklin had a LOT to do with BU's late run. Coaches say Crawford is farther along than expected. I don't see another deep NCAA run until 08-09, but I hardly think this group is going to embarrass the Valley.
BTW, the BU-Iowa State game is slated for ESPN2. Any other Valley non-con games on ESPN?

Definitely agree with the assertion that if Valley teams make a clear statement in this year's NCAA tourney (good runs by a couple of teams), then the MVC will be seeing more and more national coverage. The snowball should pick up even more speed with even better potential recruits signing with MVC schools because they recognize the quality of play in a "big time" conference like the Valley. Recruits want to play on teams that get TV exposure.
Let's see another year like this past season (or even better), then it's full steam ahead for the Valley on many levels. LOVE IT!!!

Xavier Crawford hasn't been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse yet, so I am very skeptical on this team finishing above .500 this year if he isn't playing.

Yeah it has to include ESPNU. Regardless though, this is a huge step in the right direction.

Does UNI-Bradley showcase the MVC very well this year? UNI should be decent with who they have returning but BU lost nearly all if not all of their starters from last year's sweet 16 run. I would think that ESPN would want a "for sure" top conference game.

The title of this thread is UNI-Bradley on ESPN. Nowhere in that title does it say anything even remotely related to Wichita State. Can we at least have one thread on here that does not get hijacked. In case you forgot Bradley also made it to the sweet 16 last year.
Good news for BU and UNI I hope you guys both play a great game.

Get off your friggin high horse. This is just one of those times I HAVE to say something. I am so very tired of people on this board assuming things that have not been said. I don't know Engrshock and I can only guess by his avatar that he is from WSU, but I don't find anything in his post where he says WSU should be in this "for sure" top conference game. There have been many, many posts on this board from numerous posters (from ALL Valley schools) that have said the top four in the Valley this year looks to be MSU, SIU, CU and WSU. Engrshock could just have easily been referring to MSU/SIU or CU/MSU or SIU/CU. Why do you ASSUME he meant WSU? I do agree that this was not the place to say that UNI/BU did not showcase the valley. They may both very well surprise everyone. But don't go getting on your classy little high horse and yelling at someone for a comment you have taken the way you want to take, rather than the way it may have been meant.

Because Shucks fans have such a good record of not hijacking threads.
I will say it one more time. Bradley also played in the sweet 16 last year and deserves the tv coverage just as much as anybody else does.

What, are you nuts? Haven't you realized yet that your Sweet 16 run means nothing? Only WSU's run meant anything. Besides, you guys aren't playing Syracuse in a one and done or LSU in a 2 for 1. Clearly you guys are gutless and are not trying to parlay your sweet 16 run into making your program better. You're content to stay where you are. There is only one MVC team that is worthy of television coverage or mention in every thread started on this forum. Besides, what nemises did you guys ever slay in order to make a run to the national championship of a top 5 collegiate sport? I bet you haven't sold out your arena for all games this year, either. Gees, get over yourselves already.

Something tells me a CU fan should not be commenting about anything last year....since they weren't relevent...:innocent:
