That's the attitude every FAN should have 3 months before the season starts. Optimism should abound.

The only difference here is WSU fans speak the truth....:innocent:

Not smack, but I think I speak for every team in the Valley when I say we're looking forward to playing in the new arena, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see UNI lose A LOT of the homecourt advantage they've held over opponents in the past playing in the dome (dump).:innocent:

...remember, don't :chair: (the messenger)

Hey, I wasn't digging at Shocker fans... I just wanted to get pumped for the basketball season in a shiny new bad-*** arena. I have football to worry about first, but basketball will come in due time...

Since this is the trash talk forum, I will ask this; So when the league as a whole has arenas that on average, hold 10,000+, how is your 7,200 seat arena bad-***?

Probably because the university owns it.

That still doesn't equate bad-*** against the other school-owned venues. Oh wait, Drakes high school gym only holds 7,002. I guess it's bad-*** for Iowa schools in the Valley. My bad.

Drake is the lone exception to a lot of things in the Valley.

Joey, why are you visiting WSU-related topics?

By the title I could tell the thread might be interesting and wasn't completely related to Wichita State.

That being said, my previous protestations on "some" WSU fans may have been a bit hasty so I come back, SIU hat in hand, to talk basketball. I probably will be more selective in my responses in the future and not be engaged into discussions that are simply flames.

Because it's connected to our existing arena which has held 22,000+ for a basketball game in the past. When you combine the size and versatility of the UNI-Dome with the great cozy athmosphere that will be in Mcleod, I don't think anyone in the valley can do more with their facilities than UNI can. Sure, we'll never average what WSU does, but we'll be able to do MUCH more than WSU can in terms of hosting, etc. And the size fits us just fine. Remember, it's not the size of the boat, it's the motion of the ocean, right? :naughty:

It's not about the Dome, the Dome is an awesome, intimidating football environment. The Dome was an intimidating place to play basketball as well. But just because the new arena is connected to the Dome doesn't mean that the new arena is bad-***.

That said, I do have a big boat.

Who's comparing them to anyone? This is the trash talk forum and I was asking why a 7,200 seat arena would be considered bad***.

Also, it's not like UNI is really in the middle of nowhere. While not considered a major metro, the overall area has more people to draw from then you think. Many more people than Carbondale.

I do wish UNI would have went a little bigger. I'm not saying they'd have to have a 10k building, but something that would allow for a little more growth in attendance. I wish WSU would have as well.

I heard UNI spent a small fortune on thick rugs for the new place. They want to keep as much pig ***** out of there as possible. :panthers:

I think there are some UNI fans who would agree with you, however I think the size is perfect. You have to think, based on history, UNI is basically at or near the peak of what can be attained in terms of attendance. At this point, they can basically say they will sell the place out, forcing more "casual" fans to buy season tickets in order to guarantee they can get a seat. Up until now, you could basically just go to a UNI basketball game whenever you want. Drive up to the dome at 6:50, you could get your ticket, a Dome Dog, and basically sit wherever your wanted (prior to the past couple of years). Having more season tickets guarantees revenue for the future success of the program, instead of having to rely on great seasons year after year.

That, and for the big draws (Iowa/Iowa State), we can still have the game in the Dome and sell 14K+ tickets... earning still more money for the betterment of the program. Having UNI continue to be a successful program is better for the valley than having another cookie-cutter arena that holds around 10K.

Good point, I was just hoping for around 8k for ya. But it should be a lot nicer to have 7200 in a place designed for basketball as opposed to the Dome.

I'm looking forward to my annual trip to Cedar Falls to see the new arena. The UNI Dome had its "mystique" but I'm sure you are most of your fans and visitors will be glad to not walk into it.
