Drake to host 2008 NCAA Track meet

Des Moines, August 24 - The NCAA announced today it will hold the 2008 Track and Field National Championships at Drake University. Drake was in the running to host for 2008, 2009, and 2010. Drake bid for all three years.

The Bulldogs faced competition from the University's of Oregon, Arkansas, Texas and a few others. The university renovated the famous blue oval, in part, to attract the NCAA Championships.

Des Moines hasn't hosted an NCAA championship since 1970, when track and field was held at Drake. Hosting will mean millions to the local economy.
