View Full Version : Altman sore loser

At a bears game last year in Springfield, whenever the Bears would shoot free throws it would be completely quiet except for Altman who would yell at the Bear player shooting. I've never seen a coach do that, definetely not in the valley.
Alright jays fans, How can you defend that? That's just little-league stuff.
Ridiculous.

I wasn't there so I can't dispute that it happened. What was he saying? Are you sure he wasn't yelling at the guy who commited the lazy foul or something. I mean it would be pretty classless if he was taunting the guy shooting, but it isn't golf just because the crowd is quiet doesn't mean he can't yell at his players while someone is shooting.

I seriously doubt this happened as you describe. As already pointed out, Altman was more likely chewing out one of his players for committing the foul.

Considering Altman's NIT meltdown, maybe Dana was yelling at the refs for calling the foul.

Dana has a brilliant mind and does not miss many tricks, as the execution of his team proves.
I have no doubt that Dana was yelling at his own player and not the Bear's shooter. I also have absolutely no doubt that Dana was totally aware of the situation, at that exact moment, and that there was a purpose and a goal and that was to distract the shooter. He is not above that, and I have seen it more than once.

I'm still mystified by his reaction after that Miami-Fla. game.
Did he really think he was going to get that foul called at the end of the NIT game?

We prefer to keep the crowds as quiet as possible so Altman can yell at the players of the opposing team.

Nothing is more amusing than seeing the shot, hearing the crickets, and then listening to Holthus announce WSU as the winner. Either Mitch had his head buried in a stat-sheet, was confused by the silence of the crowd, and assumed WSU won or he was simply overwhelmed by the mystical mojo that WSU carried all the way to the Sweet Sixteen last year.
Thanks again for the video, it never ceases to bring forth a chuckle.
P.S. Nothing looks more nostalgic on a college basketball court than "Omaha" plastered in huge letters on the end lines. But hey, you do have a small logo at center court! Kudos!!1

No worries. Only about 2,000 people will miss the Wranglers and as far as Cowtown is concerned.. I have lived in Wichita for a long long time and I don't think I could even drive you to that location. I know it's near Riverside... :ermm:
My admiration or civic pride will stem from the following projects:
http://members.cox.net/econoshox/Wichita/newarena.JPG
http://members.cox.net/econoshox/Wichita/waterwalk.jpg
You see I'm more concerned about the future image of Wichita in regards to the aforementioned projects instead of the "past" image of Wichita which includes "Cowtowns" and old, tired ball parks. If Wichita wants successful minor-league baseball, Wichita will have to shell out 30-40 million for a new or greatly remodeled Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
I do appreciate your concerns though! :original:

I think is is funny listening to Shockers talk about sore losers. This is the program that has had players throw punches at each other during a game, had players with continuous meltdowns (ie Howard every game and Fridge Holman spiking headbands). You have a coach that seems on the verge of tears at all times because he can't scedule home games and he publically says doesn't know if he can really be a good coach or something to that effect. You have fans that tried to claim that a home Monday night primetime NIT game is better than the NCAAs, but flipfloped as soon as WSU made the big dance. You post Matty Brauer's shot to beat Creighton about evey ten minutes as if that was the game that won a national championship. And then you claim the CU fans are obsessed with WSU.
Funny stuff.

Most of you guys have been crying way before you had the Sweet 16 to enjoy.
So I'm glad your present success has finally caught up with your minset.
Altman pulled the same sh t at Koch.
While I can understand a coach's need to communicate with his players, and it being best to communicate in the quieter times to ensure the player hears you, it's completely devoid of class.
Ironic, no?
The team who purports itself to be the moral leader of the Valley, arguing that no team should ever 'shame' itself with an unbalanced series just to play some good opponents as it makes us look like lesser competitors, is lead by a coach who pulls low-rent junior high underhanded tactics to try and win games by means other than straight coaching or straight basketball playing.
So tell me. Which is the bigger embarassment?
Taking a buyout game to play a top 25, nationally recognized basketball power?
or
Throwing spolied-brat tantrums at the officials broadcast on national television and using lowlife head-game tactics to try to win?
Jayball

Yeah Altman is definitely a win at all cost coach.
I think I even saw him stick his foot out to trip oposing players a couple of times.
I know he has Qwest Center staff put Icy Hot and Tiger balm in the opposing players jocks before the game.
And I also heard he took a dump in pizza box and sent it to Turgeon's office just to get in his head.

You would hope that with all of the fine attorneys that Creighton cranks out, their fans would know one of the basic courtroom principals, "Never ask a question that you don't already know the answer to."
Then again, CU fans can take a little solice in the fact that just a few years later, WSU was in the throws of an NCAA investigation into their basketball program.

It was actually immediately after that year, barring us from the 82 and 83 postseason.
What's interesting is that the probation stemmed from allegations about recruiting violations that supposedly occured in 1975, some seven years earlier with completely different players and a different coach.
I've never really known specifics, but from what I've gathered the violations wouldn't garner anywhere near the punishment in today's NCAA.

The NCAA allegedly moves much more quickly today. And depending on which program is being investigated, and how much money it generates for the NCAA, the severity of the punishment varies.
There's an unwritten sliding scale. For example, if you are a BCS school, have at least 50,000 seats in your football stadium, and are a regular entrant in the NCAA basketball tournament, then you can expect nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Anything less......close 'er down for a couple of years.

The same violations today by any BCS program would get nary a mention in any national paper. Perhaps restriction on recruiting visits, that's all. No post season ban whatsoever.

I don't think I will ever figure out the apparently random factors that affect "when is history relevant?".
CU fans are going back to 1974 to claim a S16? WSU has an E8 and a S16 since then. 1974? That's nearly in geological time frames. WSU has a F4 about as close in time to CU's S16 as CU's S16 is to WSU's E8 year.
Here's a reasonable graphic
WSU F4....CU S16....WSU E8..........................................WSU S16.
196?.........1974.......1981...................... ........................2006
I wanted to put "discovery of dirt" somewhere in there, or maybe "formation of continents", but those phrases took up too much room.
I have really been deluded by the CU hype machine. The hype from CU fans and all the great years CU has had made me think that somewhere CU has had some post-season success.
Maybe CU fans get confused by all those "MVC Champs" banners from the 1920's that CU hangs in Qwest before every game and takes down after every game.
Maybe the CU hype is based on CU dominating the Valley a decade ago when the Valley was the #14 conference in the nation. The #14 conference last year was the Metro Atlantic. Regular-season winner was Manhattan. Only NCAA team was Iona. That's today's best comparison to CU a decade ago when CU dominated the Valley.

One year of success out of 20 or so and WSU's shtit doesn't stink anymore.
If I could post BlueBlood's vomit picture - it would go right HERE.

And still, that one year in the past 20 catapulted WSU beyond anything Mighty Creighton has accomplished in the NCAA Tournament in the past 30 years.
I can't believe Creightonians are bragging about a S16 in which they didn't even represent the MVC.

Yeah, forget going way back cause I agree, that doesn't matter. What matters now is that Altman and Turgeon are going against each other. Lets examine the record:
HEAD TO HEAD
Altman 13 wins
Turgeon 3 wins
REGULAR SEASON TITLES
Altman 2
Turgeon 1
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT TITLES
Altman 4
Turgeon 0
NCAA WINS
Altman 2
Turgeon 2
NCAA SEEDS
Altman underdog in all but one game
Turgeon easiest path to the Sweet 16 in NCAA history with awful Seton Hall and worst 2 seed in history Tennessee
RECENT RECRUITING PROWESS - LOOK TO THE FUTURE
Altman, Scout 4 stars Lawson and Morrison, Rivals Top 150 Miles, Millard {and I have high hopes for Top 150 Kenton Walker for this year}
Turgeon, no name, diamonds in the rough, underrecruited and one foreign player with a rep
So, enjoy your one year of happiness cause we're gonna kick your a.s.s this year and into the future just like in the past.

The blue gnat theory holds true, as this post proving the Creightonians' entire season is vindicated if they perform well vs. WSU is no revelation.
WSU likes to perform well overall. You know, vs. the nation.
Here's another stat for you, though:
Creighton fans' record vs. life: 0 - 1

We're gonna kick your a.s.s and there's nothing you can do about it so you avoid responding to the post and throw out some useless drivel.
I can't wait for this season!!!!!!!

You know when you see some dude do something stupid and you laugh, but then you realize he might be mentally handicapped and then you feel bad about it being so entertaining?
Don't laugh at LJ. I think he's retarded.
0 - 1 vs. life dude. Sorry, facts are facts.

The same violations today by any BCS program would get nary a mention in any national paper. Perhaps restriction on recruiting visits, that's all. No post season ban whatsoever.
Wu ... you are right my man: What Wichita got in trouble for 30 years ago wouldn't register a blip this year. But, my friend, you don't want to use that as a defense.
That's simply a sad commentary on how spineless the NCAA is today. I'm old school ... start costing these universities postseason bids and money and I guarantee you they'll clean up their acts.
I could care less what Wichita did 30 years ago ... it's history and not of any relevance today, so please understand this isn't a flame.
I'm speaking more toward the sad state of affairs in the NCAA today.

Bring it you cocky little wannabe sob. You want to be king? Feel free to climb the mountain. You're gonna be one dumb quiet jay fan when WSU spanks your whiny team back to bugaha.

I wasn't doubting it I was just curious as to what year.

LJAY Whiny Exhibit A, your honor:
NCAA SEEDS
Altman underdog in all but one game
Turgeon easiest path to the Sweet 16 in NCAA history with awful Seton Hall and worst 2 seed in history Tennessee
So you believe WSU was favored against the #2-seed Volunteers?
Or is it that in all the years Altman went to the Tournament he never could get his team to perform?
Central Michigan is surely as powerful as an SEC Conference Champion.

ISASO,
We may have to qualify Tennessee as the worst #2 seed ever that also swept the eventual national champions that they didn't have to whore themselves out to.
LincolnJay is fast confirming my belief that he is not a well informed CU fan, but simply an arrogant, mouthy, whiny Dana butt boy.

Hell, we may of had the better seed against the Hall, but I believe they were the favorite to win
