Watching on the KSU game tracker, ISU leads early in the 2nd qtr 3-0 and appear to be moving the ball well. They have 97 total yards (6 first downs) to KSU's 48 yards (3 first downs).

10-3 now, this should be a very close game. Can they echo the MSU win over CU??

K-State leads 10-3 at half
By HOWARD RICHMAN The Kansas City Star
MANHATTAN, Kan. — It would be no exaggeration to say the first snap of the Ron Prince era at Kansas State was a disaster.
Prince, coaching his first game for the Wildcats, saw senior quarterback Dylan Meier throw an interception Saturday. It eventually led to a field goal for Illinois State.
K-State, though, overcame the sluggish start.
Yamon Figurs returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown with 1 minute, 55 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Wildcats a 10-3 lead at halftime.
K-State had pulled even when Jeff Snodgrass booted a 52-yarder with 4:54 left in the half. Earlier, Snodgrass was wide left on a 38-yard attempt late in the first quarter.
Meier was picked off twice in his first nine attempts.

The way college football does it, I would have went for the tie and tried my shot in OT.

Especially considering ISU's offense was better than KSU's...They really moved the ball at will against the Kitty's.

Final key stats besides the score:
Yards: ISU: 346 - KSU: 207
1st downs: ISU: 20 - KSU 13
KSU's offense didn't score a single touchdown. It was all special teams. If not for the late fumble, ISU wins this game.
Way to show, Redbirds!!!

One of our starting LB's Kye Stewart went down with an injury this game, and so did Laurent Robinson. I wanted the W more than anyone else, but as much as I'd want the chance at OT. I'm sure DJ didn't want to risk playing an extra 5-10 minutes and more injuries. We had a chance to win, and we took it.

Like I said on our board, I applaud Denver Johnson's call to go for 2 there. Screw it. We are heavy underdogs on the road in a tough environment, and nobody expected us to be in that situation. If Im coaching, I go for 2 every time. I think Johnson showed alot of guts by calling for 2 there, and I totally respect and stand by that. It was the right call.
As for injuries, I think Kye Stewart just had a cramp in his calf (lets hope). He came back out after awhile. The one Im concerned about is Laurent Robinson. They said it did not look good when it happened (and it was on a running play so either he got locked up in a pile or somebody rolled him over). He came back in for 1 play a little bit later but couldnt run very well. They said they are hoping its just a sprain. I certainly hope so too because if hes out for any period of time, that would be a BIG sting to our team.

Pro-football, I couldn't argue with the call.
In college football with the OT format, its questionable unless you think your the inferior team . ISU wasn't the inferior team tonight so I expect there will be alot of Monday (or Sunday) Morning QB's out there.

That may be true, but in this PARTICULAR GAME, going to OT would not have been the best choice. We are on the road, they have 47,000 fans backing them up, a great FG kicker, and our best offensive player is out at that point. Considering all that, I do not like our chances in OT tonight.
Regardless of whether we got the 2, or tied it with a PAT, we still were relying on our defense to win the game. Either we get the 2 and our defense stops them, or we tie and our defense forces OT. Its because our defense played so well that we went for 2. That and of course---why not? Screw it man, we were there to WIN, not to play to a stalemate. We were heavy underdogs, never supposed to be in that situation, and we had momentum. Denver Johnson made a gutsy call and I stand by it. Play it safe at home perhaps, but go for it on the road. Going for the tie and forcing OT in this particular game without our best offensive player wouldve been the wrong call.

A I-AA team should always go for the win against a I-A team, in my humble opinion.
SIU faced the same scenario two years ago. Scored with a minute to play at Northern Illinois, trailed by 1 and went for 2. Had a guy wide open but missed him and lost.
Still, it was a victory in my book.

Maybe. The only wrong call that is known for sure was the QB Draw since it didn't work.
Either SIU is a pretty good team or K-State is really going to suck. Ron Prince and K-State say thank you. Boy, the K-State cool-aid bunch would have had to be put on suicide watch had they lost.

Laurent is listed as having a deep bruise on his leg. LB Kye Stewart and WR Pierre Jackson just had bad leg cramps. All 3 are expected to play next Saturday.

I hope everyone comes out healthy.
As I've stated on a couple of other message boards, I would have went for the 2-point conversion in that situation. I've heard all the arguments both for and against, both this time and a couple of years ago when Kill had to make the same decision against Northern Illinois. I think the home team has a big edge in OT games.

Phantom, I think LROB has a sprained ankle, not a deep bruise.

Thats what I thought too, but then I keep hearing from "reliable" sources that its just a contusion/bruise. Im more likely to believe the sprained ankle, even DJ talked about it in the postgame.

Robinson sore
Laurent Robinson left the game with an ankle injury in the second half. He returned briefly after getting attention from the Redbird training staff, but said the ankle was sore after the game.
"I tried to go out there the last couple plays, but it wouldn't let me go the way I wanted to go," Robinson said. "I was in the hole, and–;got rolled up from the back. I don't know what really happened, I just know it's hurting."

Looks like the Birds got a break for Saturday--Central Arkansas's starting QB nathan Brown (over 200 yards passing last week) broke his hand in last weeks win. CArk still has a pretty solid RB --I believe he's named Brown too. The kid is only 5'9" 185 but benches 400lbs, can do 23 reps with 225, squats 700lbs and has a 38.5 vertical. I think he ran for over 100 last week--a
redshirt frosh will start at QB, a transfer from Stephen F Austin , 6'3", 205lb Robbie Park--good luck!
