I love Koch arena. I couldn't imagine a better place to enjoy watching a basketball game.

I also enjoy WSU's current level of recruiting, and the fact that someone of the nationally recognized recruiting caliber of Scott Spinelli is currently pounding the pavement looking for the next basketball star.

I also enjoy the fact that I get to watch WSU play some of the top teams in the nation this year, and know that WSU scheduled teams that are tough enough to be the favorite in at least two matchups. I love being associated with a team that has the guts and moxie to do what's best for the program.

I enjoy that WSU has a coach that will tell it like it is, but has done nothing but project an image of consummate class for he, his team, and Wichita State in the media.

I also enjoy coming off of a Sweet 16 season, knowing full well that it could very conceivably get better from here.

I really like Drake's student union. It's cool that a campus store (e.g. selling Drake t-shirts) is in there and one can run into DU student-athletes there. The grounds are poorly kept but the DU people are nice. Love the media/theater people at Drake. Some nice looking people at Drake as well. :w00t: :thumbup1: ........ :innocent:

Valley finish:

1 - MSU
2 - WSU
3 - CU
4 - SIU

Here's why. SIU and CU have no one who can match up defensively with Wilson. Tolliver and Falker are going to have to play tight D sometimes 20' away from the basket and that's not what they do best.

Wilson pulls the big guy away from the basket and the rest of WSU's front court has no problem with the remaining frontcourt players.

On the other end, Funk has had some great years. Let's see how Funk does after a year layoff with Cooz defending him. I doubt Funk has seen the D Cooz will lay on him, even though Funk has played against SIU's D for 3 years.

Cooz is simply more athletic than Funk and can lay off a bit and defend the "Charging Bull step-back after laying an offensive lineman move on the defender" shot. Cooz can block that shot. If Cooz can stuff O'Bryant, Cooz can stuff Funk.

It's kind of hard to figure WSU's D against SIU, since SIU consistently has their worst shooters taking the most shots. No matter how tough SIU plays D, SIU's backcourt can shoot themselves out of contention against about 7 Valley teams next year.

So, why pick MSU to win? Everybody's ignoring them and concentrating on WSU, SIU and CU.

I don't think you really can handicap the Valley this year. In many ways it's just too tight. But I also think that there just might be a dark horse in the field and that could be Drake. I have voted in just about all of the Valley polls on this site, and depending on the day, have switched between Creighton and Wichita State. Here goes my 23rd prediction:

SIU
Drake
MSU

Have you forgotten what a great shooter Funk is? His junior year he shot 47%from 3 and 51% from 2 pt land. For his career, he is 43% from 3 and 48% from 2. If Cooz lays off, Funk will knock down J's over him all night long. Sure Wilson may be a tough guard on the perimeter for Tolliver, but who does WSU have that can guard Tolliver on the block? I also think 6'8" Ty Morrison could do just fine shutting down Wilson on the perimeter. No need to have Tolliver guard him.

Cooz never "lays off".

His only two settings are "lay on" and "lay on more".

You don't think Wilson can do anything defensively with Tolliver? It's not like Tolliver is 7-feet tall. I think maybe Thomasson can take a turn with Tolliver as he is stout and very athletic, like Tolliver.

And, of course, you're right about Cooz. He's never shown any ability to play with the best in the country. Just ask Mr. Lofton and Mr. Pearl at the University of Tennessee.

Cooz can play 2' to 3' off of Funk. If Funk tries a jumper with Cooz that close, Funk will end up with a reverse imprint of the word "Rawlings" on his face.

Most would consider that an aesthetic improvement.

Based on WSU posters in this thread, nobody from CU can possibly stack up against anybody from WSU. Expected, yet unbelievable.

From the sounds of it, Funk will be lucky to hit double digits against Cooz. Anybody remember a certain 35 pt performance by Funk AT Wichita? Sure Cooz was a freshman and he surely is better as a junior, but do you think Funk hasn't improved at all either since that game?

As to Wilson on Tolliver, if Miller couldn't handle Tolliver (AT completely outplayed Miller both games last year), I really doubt Wilson can. As to Thomasson, he's 6'7 and 225. Tolliver is 6'9" and 250. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Tolliver may be able to get position on Thomasson.

First of all, this is the TrashTalk forum. If you can't discern the difference between trashtalk and honest basketball discussion, maybe this section isn't for you.

Second, both Wilson and Thomasson are much quicker, more agressive basketball players than Miller ever was. Miller was never a force on the defensive end of the court. He wasn't an offensive force until his senior year.

(Once again, by using him as the barometer in your argument, you all give him more respect now that his eligibility is up than he ever got as an undergrad.)

Third, your argument goes on to assume a false principle of equal improvement for each player over equal time. Junior Cooz is a drastic improvement over Freshman Cooz or Senior Rob Kampman's defensive ability. If Funk has "improved" his charging bull pushoff technique, it's only going to result in alot of whistles.

As to Thomasson, he's 6'7 and 225. Tolliver is 6'9" and 250.

So when Wilson is raining down 3's on the perimeter, or Thomasson is banging boards on the inside, which Tolliver is going to defend them? The big lumbering one, or the quick and agile one?

Bird

That's why we put 6'8" athlete Ty Morrison on Wilson and let Tolliver dominate down low.

Me thinks some forget that Wilson must also play defense at the other end of the court - from what I've seen, he couldn't even guard his own left nut.

no, no, no, you are wrong. from what i have read Wilson has never had an injury to his left nut, nor has his left nut ever scored a basket against him. <----i included a response for both potential interpretations of "guard". :bounceblue:

Who brought up who first?

Are you referring to the post where I discussed WSU, CU, SIU and MSU?

After that post CU fans joined the discussion and every post from a CU fan was either about WSU or CU/WSU.

If you're going for the threadjack off of my post where is the discussion of MSU and SIU?

I'm afraid this little social experiment has proven outposts original theory. The experiment required a catalyst. The appropriate catalyst was found in a WSU fan posting anything about CU even in the midst of a discussion of 4 teams.

Based on WSU posters in this thread, nobody from CU can possibly stack up against anybody from WSU.

This is the "Valley Trash Talk Forum". If any fan from any school ever says anything good about any player from any other school - look out - you just might be getting set up.

Me thinks some forget that Wilson must also play defense at the other end of the court - from what I've seen, he couldn't even guard his own left nut.

Uh, dude, that's too much information.
