The now closed Erik Ainge thread may well be the best thread ever started on VT. Nothing shows the cluelessness of some shocker backers better. Not only is Ainge currently a junior at Tennessee and a QB to boot, but Divergence apparently made up the comments regarding WSU's sweet 16 run and "how cool" WSU is. Making up stories just to try to make people think better about your school is sad and embarassing.

Thank you Divergence for the great laugh and proving to be absolute fact what fans of other MVC schools have thought about some WSU fans for some time now. You officially have no credibility on this site until the end of time....

Let's be fair. The thread was rediculous, but not all WSU fans jumped on the bandwagon. Many, in fact, asked for a link. Those fans proved to be very reasonable and I for one, like recruiting news on the forum. Then again, it is quite funny that some were duped by one of their own. Too bad the thread was locked so quickly.

HIGH SCHOOL - 2003 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year ... PrepStar All-America ... Northwest Nugget (awarded to top six athletes in Northwest U.S.) and All-State as senior ... First-team All-Metro quarterback as both junior and senior ... Led state in passing yards, completions and TDs ... Threw for 3,078 yards, 24 touchdowns and 8 interceptions as senior ... Best game that year was against Aloha, finishing 20-of-28 for 475 yards and 5 TDs accounting for 62 points in three quarters of action ... As junior, passed for 2,554 yards and 15 touchdowns ... Also named second-team All-Metro in basketball with 16.4-point average junior season ... Street & Smith named him preseason honorable mention guard heading into senior year ... Baseball pitcher, shortstop and first baseman as freshman and sophomore.

In the vein of DaShox, ISASO, outpost, and shockball were wrong on this and now will never have any credibility on this board.

DoubleJay, tap on that sarcasm meter a bit. Yours doesn't seem to be working.

Divergence left plenty of clues about what was going on. Like when he included the passing numbers for Ainge "this" year, which were cited as Ainge's "senior" year. Quoting a statistice that cannot exist is a pretty obvious clue about what's going on.

If Divergence had run onto an old article and posted it as current, then maybe your criticism might be well-founded, but Divergence went on to make up a quote that referenced the S16. That's pretty solid evidence that Divergence wasn't fooled into thinking an old link was current.

I think this might be the Best Thread EVER! Starting a new thread to demonstrate a complete misunderstanding of a previous thread and openly admitting getting suckered in by an obviously phony post is kinda classic.

As I read the other thread, it appears as though only WSU backers were "suckered". Perhaps they just couldn't wait to pat themselves on the back again? As a result, if the original intent of the post was to mislead, it only worked with respect to WSU backers.

Personally, I think you are giving Divergence too much credit. I think he found an old article, didn't realize it was an old article, and then embellished it even further as certain WSU backers are wont to do.

By the way, you'll have to show me where I "openly admitted getting suckered" in my earlier post. Since I didn't even see the Ainge thread until the inacccuracy had been exposed and it had already been locked, I don't see how your contention is even possible. Don't let that slow you down any though.... Don't you just hate it when facts get in the way of a good story (hmmmm...that seems to be the theme of this entire thread now doesn't it...)

Is that why ALL, not some of the first responses were from Shocker fans. Nobody from Creighton even chimed in until the Shocker's own COB stated "Is it September fools? Hope not, just asking." At that point, Jay's fans had a field day.

The joke clearly falls on the Shockers. Some times it's best not to try and clean up the mess, but just ignore it and hopefully it will go away.

I think when Erik said " I watched thier sweet 16 run, and it was sweet" he was referring to the Univeristy of Tennessee Presidents daughter running away from members of the football team during a Saturday night party.

Actually taking the time to start a topic about this nonsense and creating more "drama" seems even more ridiculous than the actual "joke" itself.

I remember a thread where an overzealous Saluki posted on a certain NIT Championship. Did WSU fans let it die? No, in fact DaShox decided to post a secondary thread titled "1967 SIU NYTimes Article." After 1,525 views and 85 posts, it finally got old. I guess some times you just have to be the brunt of a joke.

Then I guess DoubleJayAlum has equated himself with DaShox. There's something to be proud of!

My only reply in that thread was to post that "it's nice to be thought of so highly."

I'll leave it to you DoubleJay, do you really think that I got reeled in on that thread.......? Do you? Well.......do you?

Go run to your mommy and tell her that "I think I reeled in a handful of WSU fans with a thread about Erik Ainge (but I'm not sure)."

She'll be proud of you for it.

It was a silly waste of bandwidth, if you ask me.

You remind me of Buck in the recently aired Kill Bill Vols 1 and 2 this past weekend on TNT. He THINKS he killed the Black Mamba, but he got his.....

And yet another nail in the coffin of DoubleJay's Shocker obsession.... an obsession who's denial he comically maintains whilst starting another thread about WSU and/or its posters.

So which is it, DoubleJay? Did he copy an old 2003 thread unaware of its age, or did he fabricate a new one.... remarkably with 2005's correct stats?

I mean, if he put last year's stats on the page, it's obvious he was aware where Ainge was playing.... well, obvious to everyone but you.

All I know is, if I ever find myself in a legal pinch, I am going to check and make sure my attorney has no affiliation whatsoever with Creighton Law. I've seen absolutely no evidence whatsoever on this forum that they are capable of defending or prosecuting anything.

In fact, I wouldn't ever even use them to defend a jaywalking conviction for fear I'd be found guilty of the JFK assassination.

Seeing that in 2005 Erik Ainge was already at Tennessee, he did not fabricate a story using 2005 stats. They were 2003 stats, Erik Ainge was considering basketball, he was a great baseball player and quite possibly could have been considering Wichita State.

You're right.

I meant 2004 (03 - 04 school year) and not 2005, still stats that took place after the article was first written.

MoValley John

It's really neither that stupid, nor that unpredictable. Both basketball teams are very good, competitive and unwilling to give an edge to the other. That means ANY edge. That is how people with competitive natures behave. In this case WSU fans got punked, plain and simple. WSU fans, being competitive, are not just going to take it lying down, pretty predictible, they will spin it in any way to make it look like they didn't get punked- I would expect no less from them. Next time when Creighton fans get punked, do you expect WSU fans to let it die? I don't think so! I just hope when Creighton gets punked, it is equally funny. Some people just need to learn how to laugh, and sometimes you have to laugh at yourself.

MVJ.....you're presence on this board is refreshing, and if I have any angst built up over ANYthing ANYone else says, you manage to do a superb job of calming me down.

Let me add to the levity here......would you mind passing the above message along to Bob Stoops? One day of his "outrage" and "lack of acceptance" was quite enough, but we're approaching midweek now. The longer he whines about throwing away that game, the worse he and his program looks.

For the moment, Bob has given me a good reason to direct my venom away from anyone inside of the conference.

Today's Forde Yard Dash on ESPN.Com dealt with Stoops. It was very funny.

From ESPN's Pat Forde:

"If the scoreboard says you lost, you lost. That's not going to change. Take an hour to vent postgame, then try to regain your sanity. Do not diminish your quality of life -- and the quality of life of those around you -- by spewing for days about the refs who cheated your team, the flagrant league bias against your team or the complete lack of class displayed by the team that beat your team. Your team l-o-s-t. Try to deal."

I gotta say again - this is "The Best Thread EVER". There are just too many hilarious, misinformed posts in such a short thread.

Let's start with DoubleJay:

By the way, you'll have to show me where I "openly admitted getting suckered" in my earlier post.

Okay

Nothing shows the cluelessness of some shocker backers better.

From the original post:
As a junior Ainge threw for 2,559 yards. This season he completed 209-of-344 passes for over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns with only eight interceptions
And you're calling Shox fans clueless? The definition of "clueless" is reading "This season he completed..." which can't possibly be true, so you missed the spoof that was announced.

I've realized CU fans don't tend to read and comprehend posts. They just make knee-jerk reactions against WSU posters, but come on - this was an obvious spoof from the first paragraph and DoubleJay chose to make a Trash Talk thread based on WSU fans arrogance.

Here are WSU fans responses in the original thread:

Shockball:
Thanks for posting.

shocks02
do you know what class he's in, 07' or 08'? Linkage?

outpost
Nice to be thought of so highly....

DJShocker10
Link??

Some WSU fans were asking for links. They didn't buy the original post. Other WSU fans saw the spoof and played along. At least one CU fan bought it hook, line and sinker.

Chairman of The Board has 24 posts on VT. I don't know what school he supports. I'm sure in 24 posts, he hasn't figured out that WSU fans spoof things.

From a recent poll, WSU has 44% of the posters on VT. The playing field isn't level. WSU has more posters in every category (informative, analytical, trolling, baiting, insulting) than nearly the rest of VT combined.

Not that someone out there won't try.........
