At least you have Football, at least there is hope for next year. I have never understood why the Sycamores suck in Football. They are in Football rich Indiana and should be able to suck up any prospects that transfer from the big 3 or aren't good enough to play there.

year after year after year of bad to deplorable teams, no support, no $$, no marketing and an administration that really seemed to not care enough about ISU athletics let ISU slide to the bottom of the MVC/Gateway in the "major" sports. (although women's BB has done well)

We're all hopeful the new AD Prettyman will turn things around soon, he has started off good.

I really think (and hope) that if things don't turn around (like soon), then there is gonna be a major push to drop it. I don't know how long Prettyman is gonna give West to turn things around, but West is in year 2 of a 5 year contract and as everyone knows, has yet to win ONE game. It's a sad sad thing that football is at ISU, noone goes to the games and very few who post on the various ISU boards are in much favor of keeping it around.

I think the other Gateway teams want ISU to keep FB because it's an EASY "W" for everyone.

All I ask is that you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! don't get rid of football as a quick fix.

Despite the blowout last Saturday, I think the Trees are showing some signs of improvement. The coach's kid is a quality running back. The offense is definitely improved, but the D needs some serious work. It doesn't happen overnight. Coach Kill had a couple of losing seasons before stringing together his three straight playoff appearances. Indiana State has played 2 ranked teams and 2 IAs this season. The 0-5 against one of the roughest schedules anyone in the league has played was not unexpected. A nes coach needs 3-4 years to get his own recruits in the program before you can pass judgment on him. Give West time before throwing in the towel.

I don't disagree that West needs time to bring in good players, but ISU's history in the Gateway, and I-AA FB in general has been dreadful. Only 2 times since joining the GFC has ISU had a winning record in the GFC (88 and 96). RARELY has the FB team had a winning record overall. Granted in the 80s the team was better and competitive. But the past 15 years have been beyond deplorable.

I don't recall where I read it, but the current defensive coordinator had been fired from another schoold (maybe JMU?) because he did an awful job. ISU doesn't have the $$ to bring in a good, quality coach for the defense. The budget is so tight they can barely pay the staff that works for the university in general.

I think Ron Prettyman will have a tough decision to make if things aren't turned around somewhat by the end of FB in 2007.

Bob,
I was at the SIU-InSU game. It may sound weird, but it was better than the score indicated. InSU was outmanned, but they have some real talent. That halfback Tony West is as good as any back in the league. The QB Murphy is good, but made some bad decisions. InSU tried a few trick plays that left them in a hole and just about everything went right for SIU, including a couple of circus catches. Hang in there, the Trees are competative and will get better.

I really thought your previous coach (I can't remember his name ... Tim whoever) did a good job of increasing the talent level and made the Sycamores very competitive at times. However, ISU never seemed to get over the hump, and having to play two big-time I-A teams a year for the paydays was a ridiculous idea.

Tim McGuire I think, ISU was 4-1 to start the 2004 campaign, and has now lost 22 in a row. I think we tie Columbia Univ. with this weekend's 23rd loss in a row to YSU.

Be very careful what you wish for. One day you will wake up and realize that you miss ISU Football. You'll drive by the stadium and wish you could take your son there for a game. Just picture a brisk fall day, leaves are falling and football is in the air. College Football is about more than wins and losses, X's & O's. It is about going back to the alma mater and enjoying an american original, college football.

Granted, it is much tougher when your team sucks, but you are a land grant university. Your school must not drop Football. It would be criminal!:sycamores:

I have no idea what you mean or are talking about.
However, the I-A scheduling was not a slam at the Sycamores. You gotta do what you gotta do to pay the bills. But I always thought scheduling two games you had no chance to win gave the program little chance to even think about the playoffs. At worst, they could go 6-1 in the conference and still make the playoffs. It was just a tough way to go.

Bob, I'd rather see ISU drop FB and put the money into the other sports. Look at Bradley, Creighton, WSU, Drake, and Evansville. They don't have FB and do pretty well in most other sports. I've stated that before.

So, I am hopeful that FB gets dropped in a year or 2 (I don't liver near Indiana, so am not going to miss going to any games) and they put the $$ into BB and the other sports, and maybe add a couple other men's sports.

Some HS football games are played there. WSU track obviously. State HS track is held there. The Stones used it. And there's a big FCA event/concert there. As far as I know that's it. Hopefully in the not too distant future it'll be used for Shocker Football.
