The fourth week of the conference season is approaching. Pick your winners.
Mine are in bold.

Ill State vs. WIU
SIU vs. WKU
YSU vs. UNI
Indy STate vs. Misery State

Indy State has too many injuries, Misery State climbs out of the GFC cellar with this one. And besides, we want to keep losing so we can drop our pathetic FB program.

I'm going to have to agree with Skinny on his picks.

While WIU would be a trap game for most schools, the players have been most excited all season about facing the Westerns because of our history versus them. Our boys have had this one circled on the calendar since the embarassing smackdown they gave us last year.

Sycamores win over the Bears
Penguins get by the Panthers
Redbirds beat the Leathernecks
Salukis take care of the Hilltoppers

YSU and IL St. stay atop the Gateway, and SIU stays close

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Indiana State gets its first win of the Lou West era this week.

Indiana State 28, Missouri State 27.

I don't want to jinx it, and I mean no disrespect to Sycamore fans, but I think Indiana State's defense is just too horrible for MO State to lose. They're ranked dead last in I-AA for three major defensive categories:

1) Total Defense (523.1 ypg)
2) Scoring Defense (48.9 ppg)
3) Rushing Defense (327.9 ypg)

Missouri State's offense may be the worst in the conference, but I don't think it's as bad as ISU's defense.

Other than that, I think we have a pretty good pass defense, and ISU seems to have the most success through the air.

Bears win a close one, 32-27

We seem to agree, although looking back at it, I think the Indy State pick may just be underdog sympathy.

Picking anyone over MSU this year isn't sympathy. It's common sense.

No sympathy vote for Indiana State for me...When 2 good or bad teams play each other (like UNI/YSU), Ill always take the home team

Reading that, it strikes me that our league has some of the most unique nicknames in DI. I'm sure there are no other schools using Leathernecks, Salukis, Sycamores, Penguins or Hilltoppers as their mascots at this level.

Although I agree that the Sycs suck, it is homecoming at Indiana State (Does Wichita know what that is? They do have soccer.) and I have a feeling that the emotional impact of the game along with the larger-than-every-other-game and liquored up crowd of about 8,000 (Ha!) may provide some inspiration. :naughty:

Trees up 7-0... our announcer says there are only about 1,000 there.

I can seen that. The attendance that is. Getting the HC crowd to leave the food annd booze and enter the stadium has been a big problem the last 10 years or so. The school tried to inforce an end of tailgating ban several years ago but that just made people leave when the game started. Probably 1,000 inside and 5,000 outside. I just called a fraternity bro of mine who is there and he's still in our tent. They may go in for the second quarter. Got to love the school spirit.

Trees leading 28-19 in the fourth quarter. Looks like it could happen.

geesh, hard to believe isu didn't give that game away, anyway, at least the embarrasing losing streak is over. I still hope ISU drops FB....and soon. One win is not going to change anything. We'll celebrate for now.

It's officially the worst team in school history. If Allen has any brains, the upperclassmen will spend the rest of the season getting water for the kids and not playing. I feel bad for TA, because Goof Ball completely destroyed this program. Worst hire for this school since Mark Bernsen. The only good thing about this game is finding the freshman Horner at QB, because it should spell the end of Krapfl and Congdon, who are just not D-1 material. He'll be a good one after a couple of years of getting coached up.

Is there a real push to drop football at ISU? Do you think its going to happen?

I don't know if it will happen, I would suspect that if LW does not turn the program around by the end of next year then there will be serious talks about getting rid of it. I haven't run across an ISU fan who wants to keep it. It's a drain on the univeristy and not too many people really care about it. When a team loses for so long it's hard to find a fanbase. I bet there weren't 3000 at the game today, announced attendance and actual attendance are 2 completely diff. things. Anyone there care to guess on actual attendance??

The Icehouse is feeling like a home away from home for the Panthers. 3 for our last 3 in Y-Town!:panthers:

Road teams won 3 of 4 today. So much for homefield advantage.
