Pick the top 5 in order of how the MVC schools will finish the regular season without picking the school you pull for. By not picking your own school we might be able to have a rational discussion about the upcoming season.

Here's to everyone winning out their respective nonconference!

I think this is Missouri State's year. After looking at the players and schedules for the next 3 I have listed, it really is a toss up. Injuries, Elgin's douche bags, and lady luck will determine the 2nd thru 4th place finishs. My
5th place vote is really toss up between IlSU and UNI. I think Moser and his new 'birds will be tough as nails!

I may be buying into the Rebird koolaid a bit too much. I really liked the way they played last year with almost no offensive talent.

Let's just hammer the OOC schedule.

Not gonna win big and consistent in the league this year with transfers and freshman so Illinois State is out in my book {although I still believe they will be a "tough out" especially at home}. Seems others disagree>

Uh, LJ......UE has 7 freshmen.....so you could make the same case there. Not flaming, just pointing that out.

Anyway.......here' my 5.

seems to me that Missouri St. gets no respect for a team that should have been dancing last year. tell me they don't have a chip on their shoulder.

And 5 starters who will account for about 150 minutes per game as Merfeld staves off the wolves.

We've got new players but we also didn't lose any players from last years team. Experience will be there, at least through the first 8 players.

Hard to choose between Drake, ILL St., and Evansville. But I usually pull for Drake so... Bradley is a year away and I have no idea who fills Moss's spot at Ind. St.

That really is tough. I think the Jays are the team to beat, but I have plenty of good reasons to pick WSU, SIU, and MSU second. Drake, UNI, EU, and Il. St. are also too close to call for 5-8.

What's really funny about this thread is the fact that with no instructions or arm-twisting whatsoever EVERYBODY made their choices by clicking on the smilies.

I respect the shox but I FEAR the dawgs. I hate that $&#$@ defense! It's cheating. And they ALWAYS hit their shots against the jays. I believe this will be Drake's breakthrough year. Redbirds movin' up.

I think SIU sweeps CU but (just like last year where UNI swept WSU but WSU won the season title) CU finishes ahead of SIU.

:jays: Funk will be better, Jays will be more experienced and ready to get back to the NCAA Tourney.

:salukis: SIU's defense will keep them in most games regardless of their inability to score. The defense will be just as good, and if they hit even marginally better they'll be dangerous.

:panthers: I've changed on UNI in the last 2 weeks. I was worried about them losing a coach and some guard play, but they've got a solid frontcourt, and really just need some good guard play, not great guard play, to finish in the top 4. I don't know how the new arena thing pans out, the old one was awful enough to make it difficult for other teams to shoot the ball. They make like all the pretty lights of the new place and light you up themselves.

:bears: It kills me to put MSU in here. Just seems like every year we say the same thing...MSU could'a, would'a, should'a...but didn't. They got hosed, again. And every year we say they'll have a chip on their shoulder, but that some time in February there are still people calling for Barry's head, and not in a good way. Hinson is a nice guy, but I don't know if nice guys ever finish first.

:bulldogs: Defense, full court pressure, and Korver returns. They'll be better than last year, and last year they were close to turning a real corner. Kind of like Indiana State before they lost Moss for a stretch.
