Creighton's schedule may be the best model the MVC can aspire to, reflecting a strategy coach Dana Altman has adopted in recent years:
If you can't get with other BCS teams, play the built-in annual game with Nebraska and other schools in similar situations — George Mason, Xavier and Dayton. Then hope that the brackets in exempt tournaments, in this case the Rainbow Classic, lead to showdowns with notable programs.
"That's really the key to unlocking the RPI," Altman said.
This writer obviously gets it.

His way is the riskiest way. Better to just put a couple "notable" teams on the schedule anyway that you can to GUARANTEE that you have those type of teams on the schedule and then the rest you can fill up with the "lesser but still good" teams. Pretty simple really and you don't have to HOPE the rainbow classic or other tourneys give you those "notable" teams to play against. Someday Dana will "get it" too :P

While I strongly think Valley teams should step to the plate, a la Wichita State this year, and search out opportunities to play BCS teams on a regular basis, SIU has used the same formula as Creighton and got four straight at-large bids to the NCAA tournament before winning the auto bid last year. Obviously, that thought process can work.
So what's my point? There's many ways to skin a cat. Let's get off this subject before it gets crazy again.:chair: :chair:

Fair enough and I agree. I know it's gotten old with the CU vs WSU crap...but I can only go so long without throwing some crap at CU...I just despise them so much that it bottles up. It'll be a while until it happens again :innocent:

My only concern with the way CU does it is for seeding. Will they ever get a good seed out of scheduling that way?

That's a fair question. I know that in Korver's senior year, CU received a seed in the single digits (perhaps 8 or 9?), although arguably lower than where they should have been seeded.
Seeding will also be impacted by the Valley's overall reputation. Without a doubt, the MVC is much stronger now than it was then.

True, and I thought about that as I was posting. I want to see some Valley schools end up with a 5 seed or better in the not too distant future. Some of that will be taken care of if the Valley as a whole continues to produce and take care of business.

CU was a 6 seed.
Additionally, like WSU hates CU, just double that for how much I hate many WSU fans {you know who you are}.
Final word on scheduling, as stated there is more than one way to skin a cat. Next year, CU will have St Joe's, Nebraska and DePaul at home and Xavier and BB return game on the road. There will also be a holiday tourney that will, hmmm, what can I say, lead to some interesting names on the Jay schedule. News not released yet so can't say more but.........
That is solid and so is this year's schedule.
