Haven't heard much about him. Was Durley expected to get much playing time? I seem to recall Blue Ribbon saying something about him needing some physical development.

Durley is part of a quartet of excellent incoming freshman (Brown, Butler, Durley, Mekel). All are very polished for freshman with Durley having the highest potential for immediate post impact, Brown having the potential for being a very active post-player with range like a Kampman or Wilson, and Butler being the resident sky-walker. I had big plans for JT this year. Depending on MT's plans he might still play but I doubt it because somebody has to red-shirt. As good as JT is already, the idea of him coming back as a red-shirt freshman is VERY intriguing.

I think you are thinking of Arbry Butler. He is listed at 6'8-6'9 and about 185. At 6'7" and 235 I am not sure he needs to work on much physical development. He is big and played tight-end in HS. He kinda flew under the radar until later in his recruitment because he focused on football instead of the AAU circuit until his senior season. He probably had the most upside for immediate impact of any of the incoming big-guys.

This is not good. WSU needed this kid to develop and play this year. From what I have read and heard Durley would have been a load inside and has good touch around the basket. He was the one player I expected to get good PT this year as the season progressed. Now they should redshirt him.

I don't trust Wilson inside. PT is not a proven commodity so we will see. And then there is Martin. I really like Martin (WSU would not have made the final 16 without him) but he is seriously undersized.

That's a tough loss then. I wish him all the best.

Yeah it really sucks. But, I think keeping him out this year and putting him on the 5 year plan (a la Paul Miller who broke his foot his true freshman year) is intriguing. Also, with Wilson, Martin, and Thomasson ahead of him, he likely would only have seen 10-12 mpg.

As big as he is I was hoping he would be able to get in there and bang with the big guys around the country and conference. He would be a heck of a guy down there boxing out, kind of a Jai Lewis type from George Mason. He looked pretty good in the shocker madness and had pretty decent reports from summer pickup games. There are definately games where we could use his size...LSU, UNI, K-State (should we play them)...etc. Granted he is a freshmen so how well he develop is up in the air, but he had ALOT of upside. This hurts for a team that is already hurting on size. He wasn't a giant, but he seemed pretty athletic and was definately strong which makes up for a few inches.

He could come back and play in the Valley, but being a freshman he will miss VERY important growth and learning time being out so long....I say redshirt him at this point and just pray we have no more injuries and that Thomasson is a stud :).

Redshirt him and move on. You cannot have a true freshman playing his first college games against conference foes. Wish him the best and who knows 4 years from now everyone might be saying that redshirt year was the best thing for him.:shockers: :salukis:

Just think about the size of our freshmen next year if he redshirts. We'd have Durley (6'7" 235), Bowles (6'9" 230) Alang (6'7" 215) and maybe Butler (6'9" ???). Granted, Butler may not redshirt, but he and Alang may be capable of playing some at the 3 as well. Our front line may not look too bad in the future.

And two 6"10" guys who should contribute something over the next 3 years.

Too bad for WSU. At least his ACL wasn't torn. We already lost Cornelius to an ACL tear. :helpsmilie: :fear: :cursing: :banghead: :ranting:

I don't think losing him for the year is that bad. Thomasson is roughly the same size and is much more experienced than Durley. Yes, everyone commented on how great his offensive skills are, and they are fantastic, but I believe he is still a defensive liability. The kid has raw talent and needs seasoning as it is. I think this year in the system will do wonders for him.

FWIW, Ryan Bradley and David King are better than most 6-10 players in this league. Haven't seen the UNI kid, and if Frazier is 6-10, he's probably better, but I would easily compare these two to Drew Richards from MSU and he plays 15+ a game. Add either/or/both Butler and Brown and we have plenty of depth.

The early word on Durley was mixed. Some thought he was a little raw and could use a RS year to develop some skills. Others saw a very physical and very athletic player with no fear who could finish at the hoop and were predicting solid contributing minutes.

Unfortunately, Durley was projected as a backup for the 5-spot.

Before Durley's injury, Arbry Butler (6'8" Fr) was probably going to RS for some bulk. Chris Brown (6'8", Fr) was probably being looked at to backup Cooz at the 3.

Now the focus probably goes towards David King (6'10" RS Fr) and Ryan Bradley (6'10" So) to provide backup minutes at the 5-spot.

Bradley had a growth-oriented condition in HS that limited his development. WSU beat out Fla St and Stanford for Bradley, so there's likely some upside seen by more than a few decent recruiters. King didn't start playing BB until his Jr year in HS. Both could be decent Valley players but both could be a year or 2 away from that.

If Durley redshirts and Butler redshirts, then next year's Fr class for WSU goes 6'9", 215 skywalker (I'm giving Butler another inch of growth), 6'9", 235 unsigned but verbally committed Bowles, and Durley at 6'7" and probably 245. Plus a 6'4", 20 year old (Mormon mission) SG and a 6'2" 19-yead-old (extra year of prep school) PG.

And 6-8, 235 combo forward.

You're also giving him about an extra 30 lbs. :naughty:
