The same WSU indeed. However, that was a joke about OUR WSU, and I guess should have been rephrased, considering that Winona State U is the defending D2 National Champ, and they are favored for the championship again this year.
Anyway, does anyone know how to get the streaming audio feed?

Sounds like Josh Young is really going to be a good player. Already has 17 points on his first game! Imagine he and Al Stew in the game at the same time? Sounds like a GREAT get for the good Dr.
72-70, Drake down by 2.

Tied at 78 off a three by Bryant and a layup by Aliou. Sounds like the crowd is getting into it! Nick Grant fouled out, but absolutely tore it up with like 22 points or so, and 10-11 from the line. Way to go Nick.

Dogs with the lead! 80-78 :) They were down, but made a good comback. 3 something left to play. Winona State sure seems tough. It almost seems like they are running out of gas though...the Drake pressure seems to have gotten to them in the last few minutes, and this is what sparked the Dogs' comeback. So far, the dogs forced 19 T/O, unfortunately so did WS. Dogs have lead in rebound 46-31.

Game is close and coming down to the wire with 1:35 left. Tied at 84, korver misses. Can we pull out a close game??? hits the second one. 85-84, Drake.
Now reverse layup and foul by Flowers from WSU, gives them the lead 86-85.

Ugh, now Drake down by 3, and they gotta take the ball out on the far end. 11 seconds left. This is DEJA VU big time! They are talking about getting the ball to Korver. WE've got 4 three shooters out there...Young, Korver, Bryant, and Baryenbruch.

Wow...Bryant fouled on a three shot. Needs to step up BIG TIME in the clutch. Ouch! the suspense!
ugh...missed the first one...made second...now he has to miss this shot and try for a offensive rebound.

Well, it sure sounded like there was a crowd there. I could hear noise on the broadcast like when WSU was shooting FT's. I'm sure DUBulldog, and McBulldog will have more information about the game, since I am pretty sure they were there.

They announced the crowd at a little over 4000. That's a great turnout for an exhibition game.
Heads up Bradley, you're next.

Don't worry about it, DU fans. It's called an exhibition game for a reason.
In 2001, SIU lost its second exhibition game to some bunch of no-name, fat-assed former all-stars and you'd have thought it was the end of the world. The Salukis wound up okay that season ... losing to UConn in the Sweet 16.

WSU - 13-38 from field, 4-12 from 3pt, 16-22 from FT in second half
for game - 45% FG, 44% 3pt, 71% FT...38 rebounds
DU - 15-38 FG, 4-10 3pt, 18-25 FT...this is the second half
for the game: shot 3x% FG, 25% from three, and 72% from FT....52 rebounds.
Quotes (accuracy will prolly be a bit off):
Nick Grant "We knew we had a tough opponent. This is a good test for us. We gotta learn from it. You find out what you are doing wrong and right. [We need to play hard from the get go]. Young played the 1 position, but it's tough for him because he's not used to it. He's a good kid, with great confidence....[playing this game with a tough opponent] is as good as it gets, because we get to see what we did wrong. Now we have to focus on the next opponent."
Dr Tom "You can see that [WSU] is good with the ball and on the defensive end. Good, experienced ball club. It's going to take a good team to beat 'em. When you lose, the team listens better than if we won by 20. They are a good listening ball club. Our team learned a lot playing a team as good as WSU. On the positive side, Nick Grant has really improved with a solid game. Josh Young can play! He's only had 4 days of practice at point. I wanted to go with Al at point exclusively. When we get Al back, we can get Josh to play off the ball. I think he can be a big time player...good attitude, coachable, bright...he's been doing [this type of play] every day in practice. He's a good solid guard who will only make the rest of the team better....Spotty, erratic big man play on both ends of the court. We have to work on our front court. We will see some changes by the time we get to Saturday. We turned the ball over too much with 20....WSU really disrupted the flow of our offense with their defensive pressure. We have a chance to be a good rebounding ball club...Korver's highlight of his game was rebounding by leading the team [with 11]...[Houston] will get more playing time on Saturday. [Korver] has got to go inside more, when his outside shot is not going in, he has to go inside. Nice crowd for opening night, exhibition game...I guess we are the only ones who think we are going to be good. Apparently the media doesn't think so, nor does the MVC, I think this team has a shot to be good..." (4000 ppl)

I'm not too worried. Winona St is a good team, and Drake was playing without its top two point guards It sounds like both point guards will be back for the season opener. The only troublesome part is this game followed the same close loss script we saw too many times last year.

I've got mixed feeling, yes WSU is a good team, D2 Champs, but they were still D2, we got Korver back.... still 2 points short. We've got to get it done. I'll be glad to see the game on Saturday. One thing for sure, I'm ready for some Bulldog basketball!

Yeah but that is almost like a {insert BCS team name here} saying, "Well, I have mixed feeling cause while {insert "Mid-major" name here} is good they are still, after all, Mid-major." I wouldn't worry about it, if you lay an egg do it in an exhibition. These are the games they learn the most in. Learn from things you can make better, put this one behind you and go take it out on the next team around the corner.

If that's the case, then wouldn't worry much at all...PGs missing can hurt a lot, ask Creighton. Are right in that it sounds like the Dogs need to learn how to win close games.
Winona State is a very, very good team, and returns almost everyone from the D-II title team. Not only that, but they have several D-I transfers on their roster. Quincy Henderson (former CU Bluejay) plays for them, and I think they have at least 2 others. They would most likely be a first division team in a lower D-I league like the Mid-Continent.

Not at all. If Drake was at full strength, I might be worried. But, the 'dogs were without their starting point guard AND their backup point-guard. The kid who started at point is a freshman (Josh Young) who's only practiced at that position for 4 days. He had a great game, scoring 21 points, but still doesn't really know the offense. And, unfortunately, every time he went out for a rest, WSU went on a run......it's tough when you've got a 4th stringer running the show.
Down the stretch, Ajay Calvin missed a dunk on an alley-oop play, and Korver's 3-pointer for the lead with 30 seconds to go came as close to going in as possible without actually going in.
Winona State is no slouch. They're the defending D-2 national champs, and are picked #1 again this season. Very physical team, and well coached.

Winona State is one hellva basketball team. And Bradley I'm not gifted enough to give you a scouting report but I will say there are 9ish players on that team that get right after it. And they play team basketball .. they are tough and execute like they've played together for a long time.
While skipping any specifics negatives .. bottom line is Winona State wanted this game more than Drake.. plain and simple. They deserved the W and they earned it.

I'll echo what most are saying - its only and exhibition game. Nothing to worry about because it doesn't count in the records. Obviously this will give some things for Dr. Tom to work on.
However - I would be concerned as a Drake fan about losing another close game. How many close games did you lose last season? It seems like it was a TON. The pups need to learn to finish these games with a mark in the Win column.

It was a fun game to listen to, especially since I started listening at the start of Drakes comeback from way down. Sounds like some of the new players played pretty well. Too bad the foul shots and/or the last second put back did not drop. I was wondering about the backcourt DU had out there. This game can only help Stewarts back-ups.

Dr Tom mentioned on his post-game show that a game like this will help a lot more than if they had played a weak opponent and won by 20-30. If they had blown out a weak opponent, it would have been harder for the players to understand that they still have things to improve upon. With a close loss like this, it will not be difficult to get the players' attention.

The loss gives anyone the opportunity to flame on Drake, but Winona State is a very, very good team. Yes, I believe that Drake would have liked to win, but Coach Davis was short handed and was more concerned with developing team chemistry and improving for the regular season. And yes, while it was also an exhibition for Winona State, the players on Winona State come into these exhibitions against D-1 opponents with a little chip on their shoulders and the games mean alot more to them. Dr. Tom was right, the loss will probably go along way as an "attention getter."

don't think so :
“It’s definitely a big thing for us,” said senior forward Quincy Henderson, who transferred from Division I Creighton two seasons ago. “Technically, they’re exhibition games, but they might be three of the biggest games of the year for us.

That, combined with all the running they'll be doing today at practice.
Don't worry Drake fans. Its just an exhibition. And, because of the injury, you may have just discovered another scorer.
Truth be told, Winona State may be better than some of the 250+ level RPI teams in Division I.

Oct. 13): Winona State won its last 22 games a year ago to win its first NCAA Division II national championship. And if the pre-season rankings are an indication of things to come, the Warriors may find themselves on the top step of the awards stand again in March in Springfield, Mass.
Division II Bulletin and Street and Smith's have tabbed the Warriors as the No. 1 team in Division II in the pre-season as they return practically the entire team that claimed the title last year. Led by junior John Smith, the most outstanding player at the 2006 Elite Eight, the Warriors look for a repeat.
The Street and Smith's rankings have Barton -- who lost to Winona State in overtime in the Elite Eight quarterfinals -- at No. 2, followed by another E8 participant, SIU Edwardsville, Nebraska-Kearney and Grand Valley State. The Warriors are followed in the Division II Bulletin rankings by a quartet of teams that made their way to Springfield last year, Montevallo, Tarleton State, SIUE and Seattle Pacific.
Practice opens Sunday for teams across the country and exhibition games -- many against NCAA Division I competition -- will begin later this month.
The NABC coaches pre-season poll will be released in early November.
