The plot thickens this week. My winners in bold.
SIU over YSU-My homer pick
Ill State over Missouri State-Redbirds bounce back from their first conference loss
WIU over Indiana State-Leathernecks get back to .500 for the season
UNI over WKU-tough to pick this one. Loser probably loses any shot at the playoffs.

I think it's more than Probably loses their shot at the playoffs.
Whomever loses has 4 loses and that isn't going to get them on at-large.
I guess there is a really small chance that the loser of this game could still possibly win a share of the Gateway title and thus the bid that goes along with it... but that is such a small chance of that happening.
Now the winner is sitting pretty darn good.
Oh btw, give me:
YSU over SIU. My head says YSU is just to physical for SIU. I will be rooting for SIU though.
ISU over Mo State. Bounce back game.
WIU over Indy State. WIU gets to .500 over all
UNI over WKU This one could be really special. UNI is a total barn-burner. I will be rooting for WKU though.

Going to pick all the home teams as winners this week: YSU, WIU, UNI and IL St.
Still think by season's end that some 7-4 teams are going to get a good look at for playoff consideration.

I can't see that. I'm not sure a 7-4 team has ever gotten a bid, unless they won a league that garners and automatic birth.
I can't see 7-4 from the Gateway being a playoff team.
That said, here are my week 6 winners:
Redbirds-senior day at Hancock and perhaps the return of Laurent Robinson?? I sure hope so. Rembert ran for 272 and 6 TD's last year in Springfield
Penguins-pulling for SIU, but this Penguin team pummeled us at the LOS much the way the Redbirds manhandled SIU. I don't see the Salukis being able to stop the power running of the Penguins. I'd love to see it, but I don't think it'll happen.
Leathernecks-They have a good team and will handle the Trees
Panthers-This is the game of the week, I think. I like UNI, but Haddix is a tough QB and Moore always plays well in big games it seems. this is the Game of the Week in my mind.

Match-up special: SIU--if they run over us, so be it, but we "match up" better with them (for some reason) better than we do with ILST and a throwing QB
IlST---good MSU D but no O
UNI--come back special
WIU--they should have had a few more GFC wins
Leathernecks-They have a good team and will handle the Trees

The Sports Network keeps talking up Portland State as a potential team to make the playoffs with a 7-4 record because they've played 3 I-A games (New Mexico, Cal, Oregon) and won one of them (New Mexico) but I don't see it.
I think SIU, even though it has, perhaps, the best I-A win of the season (Indiana), is gonna be sweating if it finishes at 8-3. You can only take so many teams out of the Gateway. Illinois State looks to be a lock. YSU, WKU, UNI and SIU are fighting for two bids (I think the Gateway gets three bids, given the craziness of the season). Two pretty good teams are gonna be home for the playoffs.

Five teams are currently in the running for bids, although the loser of the UNI WKU game is probably going to be eliminated this weekend. Early season losses will bite the loser. Ill State, SIU and YSU are still in the running. Each need to get at least to 8-3 to get in. Youngstown needs to either beat SIU or WKU to clinch a co-championship which should get them in this year.. The Salukis need to win 2 of their last 3 to get to 8-3. At 8-3 with the Indiana win, they should get in. Ill State has the easiest schedule with UNI the only real roadblock left. Their other games are Missouri State and Indiana State which they should win easily. UNI or WKU both need to win out to get in. If we end up with 4 8-3 teams like last year, someone will bet the shaft like the Penguins did last year. I don't see more than 3 bids for the league this year. The last time that we got 4, it caused quite a ruckus.

YSU probably sewed up a playoff berth today.
WKU probably eliminated themselves with a loss.
My best guess now is 3 bids, YSU-Ill State-and whoever wins the showdown between UNI and SIU next week.

Say UNI beats SIU next week and eliminates the Salukis from consideration.
The Panthers then lose to Illinois State and have four losses.
Suddenly, the Gateway is a two-bid league.
And what if Western Kentucky got really, really mad and ran it up big on Youngstown State to leave the Penguins at 8-3? Take that scenario, throw in an upset or two on the national scene and we get one bid.

The real question....how many will attend the Bears' last home game? I'll guess 5000 announced, but probably 2K total in attendance.
