not to start too much trouble, but saw some comments from the Winona State coach that don't quite square with the BU-will-finish-ninth-even-though-they-return-some-key-players-from-a-sweet-16 crowd. He seems to think they were out-classed, and said not just that BU was better than Drake, but that BU was MUCH better. Some quotes, per the Peoria Journal Star:
"We played a heckuva basketball team tonight. They're extremely quick and very athletic. They're obviously a caliber ahead of us. We got a little tired, but they caused it."
"We don't play against that great of pressure defense on the perimeter very often. At least we didn't let it get out of hand. I was proud of how our kids hung in there."
"I think Bradley is a much better team (than Drake). They're more athletic and have more size and quickness."

I heard that the Winona coach had said that this morning. I have a ton of respect for Bradley .. hell I wouldn't even be alive if my parents hadn't met there back in the late 40's! :naughty: I doubt that the Winona coach meant to slam Drake. Drake only had two players that showed up the other night. And Winona State has a heckva a team. Based on what the WSU coach saw in Des Moines he was only telling the truth. Hope that changes real soon for us Drake faithful.

Brocks. Bradley was picked 8th, not 9th. Bradley also returned just one of its top six scorers from a team that finished 5th in the Valley. Where do you predict this team finishes?
Bradley is a tougher matchup than Drake for Winona due to the athleticism factor. Winona has won at Drake. Something Jim Les has yet to do.

Based on their performances, Winona has no reason to think Drake could compete with Bradley. There are lots of excuses, but if BU really is "much better," than Drake has a lot of work to do.

Any given night. Drake sucked on its perimeter defense and WSU made the shots. That's the story.

Never talked about the "official" poll. Have seen plenty pick BU at 9. I'd say 5 or 6. And JL got BU to the Sweet 16 . . . something Tom Davis has yet to do at Drake. Is there a point? :braves: :bulldogs: :valley:

I agree it wasn't a slam on Drake. And I would not be even a little surprised if it turns out to be a real battle between BU & DU for that #5 spot. My point was not to insult DU fans (and thanks for your very classy reply) but to say I think BU MIGHT be better than some expect. I've actually heard that JL and Dr TD have alot of respect for one another. Of course, given the records, JL SHOULD!!! :braves: :bulldogs: :valley:

To be clear, I know it was just a couple exhibitions. BU probably is not MUCH better, if it's even better at all. I'm just glad to see an objective guy acknowledge that BU is good. I think that when you return a lot of players fronm a deep run in the tourney and get ZERO respect (from some), there's something wrong. But if you're looking for any BU fan who expects to walk away with a W against Drake, good luck lookin'.
You know the beauty of the Valley? It's that more Bradley fans expected to beat Kansas than Drake. Telly Billy P to make sense of that.

So you're saying Drake is better than Kansas?
I see your point. I wasn't trying to sound harsh, but maybe I was a little defensive. I'm expecting ValleyTalk to be in midseason form, so I assume when a poster mentions another school, it's to slam them. I hope Bradley and Drake have tough battles for positioning this year, and I hope it's for a lot higher than sixth place.

I was very disappointed to read that. I think BU is going to have enough problems with DU this year without this bulletin board material from Winona St. Not good.

Don't start.
This board is going swimmingly well recently, now all we need is to recessitate the endless WU/CU screaming match. That's sarcasm, by the way.
