Awhile back there were some inaccurate comments about Greg McDermott and his attitude towards UNI. These quotes should clear things up:
What do you think of the way the athletic department has been marketing you?
I think anybody that knows me knows that's only going to happen once. That's not my style. I'd rather they promote our players and our team. But I understand it. I'm an Iowa native and I'm one of the first Iowa guys to coach at Iowa State in 50-some years and that's unique and it's something to sell. If you're in the marketing end of the world, I guess it's a good thing to sell. I gave it my blessing, at least for the first year. I don't think you'll see it again in the future.
Did they have to twist your arm a little bit?
I wasn't real receptive to it at first. I had a few stipulations. No billboards in Black Hawk County. I just felt out of respect for what UNI means to me, that would be a little bit of a slap to their face. I allowed them to go in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, just not in Black Hawk County.
