Funny, UN-Omaha's next game is against Nebraska - an exhibition for UN-Omaha but a regular season game for NU. :ermm:

Dotzler, Hibma, Jackson all still out and now Isacc Miles twisted his ankle so will not play tonight but will play Monday against Miss. Valley State.

These guys usually give CU a pretty good game. I am simply looking for improvement over the first game, especially on defense.

This point guard situation has me a little worried... IF for some reason Miles can't start practicing right away, I worry about his ability to learn the offense...

The normal "exhibition game for the D-1, Superbowl for the D-II" situation has to be magnified by the fact these guys are in the same town as Creighton.

They normally any good?

Looks like it's their first game of the season.

So, who backs up Bahe at the point tonight? Similar situation to Drake's first exhibition, when Drake's #1 and 2 point guards were injured.

Nate will most likely fill the rest of the minutes at the PG spot but now people at the bluejay board are saying Isacc is fine, so I don't really know.

They were disappointingly bad last season I believe.

This year there are a lot of new faces on their team, and I believe at the moment they have got some injuries of their own.

If this game is within 15 points I'll be surprised. (But DA would probably love it because it would be just that much more fuel for his practice fire before the reg. season)

UNO has traditionally been a VERY good D-II program (UNK is as well), especially during Kevin McKenna's (now BJ assistant) tenure. I know they played in an Iowa State pre-season tournament a few years back and actually won a game against a D-1 opponent, they should have won at Nebraska last year, CU went into OT against them a few years back, etc...However, it sounds like most of their team is new. If CU plays even slightly better than against EA Sports, this *should* be a rout.

Prediction:

CU - 82-57

Why no update on the game tonight? Was it bad?

From the Creighyom website: OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton used an 18-0 run midway through the second half to put away crosstown rival Nebraska-Omaha, 73-56, in exhibition action Wednesday night at Qwest Center Omaha.

After Creightn scored the first five points of the game against UNO, the Mavericks responded with a 10-0 burst to take their largest lead of the game at 10-5 after 4:15 of play. Creighton would get a three-pointer from Anthony Tolliver to go ahead 15-13 with 11:58 to go in the first half, and never trailed again.

Despite building a lead as large as 24-17, CU couldn't put away their Division II opponent. The Mavericks would score the final four points of the first half and trailed 32-31 at the break.

CU held the Mavericks scoreless for the first 4:48 of the second half to build a 40-31 lead, but UNO stayed in their game and slowly clawed back. The Mavs trailed just 47-45 with 11:23 to play after a jumper by Josh Vanderslice.

To be honest WSUballer. It was a pretty piss poor performance tonight by the Jays. They played with no fire or passion tonight and if they bring that type of game to the floor come Monday or any other night it will be a long season. The Seniors better step up and drill it into the head of themselves and the newcomers that just cause they are ranked 19th does not mean a dang thing until they get out there prove that they deserve the ranking

It was an exhibition, dickhead...Thanks for the cheapshot attempt though.

Even though CU was anything but impressive in the 2 exhibition games, I always take these with a grain of salt. Altman has always used these games differently. Primarily to get newcomers acclimated and to experiment with different lineups. Yeah, I am sure if he really wanted to, he could have come out and everybody flying around, have Nate and AT play 38 minutes, potentially getting key personnel hurt and blow UNO out by 40+. That is not DA's style. The fact that Funk took a total of 16 shots over two games is pretty evident of what DA was hoping to accomplish.

Eh, at least it was only an exhibtion. And that's what exhibition games are for - for working out the kinks. Miles' absence probably helped make the outcome narrower as well.

Jays played really lackluster ball the first half, seeming to sleep at times. PG position continued to be a problem. Funk's numbers were low because he spent some time at the PG position. Perhaps if Miles played it may have been a little different?

Second half was a different story. Jays went on a huge run and could have really run up the score, but DA really started substituting. They still were pretty sloppy though, even in the second half.

The freshman Lawson scored in double digits and looked good. Nengsu had a big night on the offensive end, but needs work on the D side. All in all, work to be done, but it is nice to see some guys other than Funk and AT scoring.

Ditto, most of above. But a couple of things that jump out at me after last night.

1. We are going to need Isaac Miles to come along quickly. Josh has started doing some live half-court scrimmaging in practice so I am expecting to see him working into the games by the Hawaii trip in December. Isaac apparently sat due to some team disciplinary reasons (i.e., reportedly trouble finding the classroom). DA needs to nip this in the bud.

2. Nate and AT did not play this game the way they will come Monday. Nate took just a handful of shots. He only used his patented drive/pull-up jumper a couple of times last night. He mostly facilitated passing the ball and working on running through the offense with the new guys to get reps going, IMO. AT also did not seem to really challenge the inside. I think both of these guys will become much more aggressive after tonight.

3. Nick Porter is kind of a dissapointment. He was pretty non-exitent on offense and got lost (lazy) on defense. I was hoping to see signs of improvement/consistency there. He is going to have to step it up.

4. Brice is bouncy. The guy can elevate. If he can keep from getting lost on the Defensive side so he can get some playing time, he is going to get us a half dozen or so rebounds and 10 or so points a game. He has a really nice, smooth jumper from the elbow, and he can elevate over most people who will be guarding him.

5. Kenny Lawson is going to be a force down low. Seems to have really good instincts and good hands. Will get banged around quite a bit this year, but shouldn't hurt us too bad when he is in there. He and AT had a couple of nice hi-low plays.

6. Ty Morrison is going to be a difference maker, but he has some catching up to do. Look for him to come on in the second half of the season.

7. Dane Watts went 1-8 from the free throw line. This is going to kill us. He is going to get fouled regularly this year. He is going to have to hit free throws.

Another 8 shot night from Funk...nothing special yet...had two or three of his trademark pull up jumpers, drew a couple of fouls on the shots as well.

He did, however, make an attempt at some difficult passes, the only problem is, he saw the pass working...not the guy(s) he was trying to pass it to as several times in the first half it hit them square in the hands but bounced off because they weren't ready for it.

Watts is in a horrible shooting slump. Not sure what it is (focus, mechanics), but he needs to keep shooting the basketball because he is a much better shooter (both from the field and the line) than his most recent stats (including the end of last season) make him out to be.

Brice Nengsu was the player that made the biggest statement in these two exhibition games. Even with these two games, he looks a lot more comfortable in the system and shooting the ball.
