View Full Version : Will Turgeon pull another Turgeon this year?

By pulling a Turgeon, I mean improving the W-L record once again. I think it is very possible. Syracuse will be tough. But I really don't think they're as good as LSU. The 2 teams that scare me the most are Creighton and Missouri State. SIU is a close 3rd, but could jump if by some miracle they created an offense. Right now I am going to say that Turgeon will not improve the W column this year. What are your thoughts?

If he does, wow. I said it at the end of last year and I'll say it again now.
WSU is better this year than last. Perhaps a lot better. That in no way is a forecast of an improved record or trip to the sweet 16 or beyond.
Almost every team needs a few breaks to go their way to be successful and WSU is no different.
I also do not think they will improve on last year's record.
WSU only lost 4 games in conference last year. That's a feat that will be very difficult to repeat.
They lost 3 non-conference, including the Bracket Buster. WSU looks to improve that this year.
It will come down to how well WSU does in the Valley tournament, and how well WSU does in the NCAA tournament.

I think he can get close, but it'll be tough to pass what we got last year.

Well I don't know if he'll improve the win/loss record...eventually you have to plateu out a little LOL.
BUT...we should be a 20+ win team and playing in the post season yet again this year...so that is fine by me.

I must concur with LJ. I love all Valley teams (every damn one of them) and we've had a huge love fest the past few days, however we should all try to use a smidgen of common sense and take the specific team talk to our home boards.

HEY LG........how's it? Say good thing that UNL loss was on a neutral court cause a home loss would have been embarrasing!:ermm:

just like its caused shocker fans to become high strung. its early, neither team is as good or bad as they think they are right now.

Actually they may be, it's just that we don't know for sure since it is early.

Actually they are as good or as bad as they think they are right now. It's just that there is alot of season left and so that can change...but for now you can't argue it.

I just love being on the side where you can say it's early with two huge wins under your belt so far. Creighton fans would prefer being on that side too, no?

It has so far. I am anxious for us to play Creighton at the Chuck. Place will be rockin! Not so sure about the Qwest, though....
I do have to say that I've enjoyed the beginning of this season. All the flaming between WSU and CU has calmed down a little bit.

An ESPN commentator (can't remember which one) once said "The Salukis only play offense because the rules of basketball say that they have to."

Whoa there fellas!!! Where did all the Valley love go. What happened to "I will root for any Valley team in the out of conference games because I want the Valley to do really well." Part of that "rooting for the Valley" entails encouragement of each and every Valley team. CU has lost one game -- one game guys. Did it calm down the "we are the greatest" attitudes expressed by some CU fans-- of course it did. But remember this - the Shoxs have a VERY BIG game coming up Saturday -- one they may not win -- one they may not do well in. Some WSU posters may be talking out of the other side of the mouth come Sunday morning. Just remember -- All Valley teams need to do well in the preseason. It only helps every other Valley team. Let's leave this kind of dialogue until the conference season starts when we will have something to fight about.
And DJShocker, even though I think this thread would have been better suited for Shockernet, I am surprised you are only REALLY worried about CU, MSU and maybe SIU. I would definitely add Bradley to that worry list. And frankly there are at least 3 other teams that could cause a lot of trouble. The conference is going to be brutal this year -- I think even more so than last.

Hey, rivalries are not bad. I expect fans of each school to give each other a hard time and hopefully do it with a little humor whenever possible. That does not mean that we are not rooting for the Valley to do well against outside opponents, it just means that when a team lets the Valley down with a loss they can expect that their conference rivals might act a little like--well-rivals and let them know about it. If the Shocks perform badly at SU, I expect a few comments from Creighton and SIU fans. It's not a problem.

I think that 5-6 conference losses might very well win the conference this year. I don't think WSU will sweep the Bears this year despite recent history and I think WSU's record will fall off of last years record. Saying that, I do think WSU will have 19-20 wins this season.

I think the Bears will win the game in Springfield this year also. Just out of curiosity, where do you see the Shox 10-11 losses coming?
UMKC
Syracuse
Wyoming
Maryland E Shore
Kennesaw St
New Mexico
KState/USC
UNI x 2
SIU x 2
BU x 2
MSU x 2
Indy St x 2
UE x 2
CU x 2
Ill St x 2
DU x 2
That would have them going 15-10 or 14-11 from here on.

I was totally out of line, how stupid of me. 22 wins tops. I never did pick WSU to win the conference and I am now picking MSU 28-2 knowing that they'll probably split home & home with WSU.

I believe I said I was more worried about CU, MSU, and SIU than Syracuse. I'm pretty sure that's what I said. Find that post and quote it. I am worried about Bradley, UNI, and Ill. St. to a certain extent. Just shows how tough the Valley is this year.
