I believe I may have come up with a new term.

This is the condition that you are in when all of your teams are on a roll.

Obviously, I'm a Shocker fan first and foremost. But I'm also enjoying the start that the Valley has made this season.

And when I add to this the fact that my favorite NFC and AFC football teams have either neared or risen all the way to the top of their divisions, it all adds up to a state of........

SPORTS NIRVANA

Let's see.

Davidson - (4-3), 0-3 against BCS schools, but this is a rebuilding year.

Carolina Panthers - (6-5) Were supposed to be a Super Bowl team, and now they can't score points.

Pittsburgh Pirates - Ew.

Charlotte Bobcats - Don't really enjoy NBA, but if I watch it, this is my team. Ew.

Texas A&M Aggies (Football) - Decent. Beat UT for the first time in 7 years.

It's been smooth sailing for me right now

SIU football, final 8 in I-AA playoffs
SIU basketball, 5-1 right now, with their stud recruit for next year coming from my high school.

Da bears, 9-2 (I'm with you grossman!!!)
Cardinals, World Series champs!

Yeah, things are going pretty good for me right now.

Let's see

SIU Football, second round of playoffs
SIU Basketball, Humming along pretty good
St. Louis Cards - World Champs
Atlanta Falcons - 5 & 6, Vick is moron
Detroit Red Wings - Second in Division with 30 points.
Chicago Bulls - Let's not talk about them....Bring back Jordan, even if he's almost 50

Not really sports Nirvana, but not all is bad.

I'll play, but I am far from Nirvana:

WSU Basketball – doing fine so far.
KC Royals – a farm system for the rest of the MLB, plus I have to listen to Yankee fans all the time.
KC Chiefs – I am not convinced and not a fan of Herm Edwards (I experienced his tenure with the Jets first hand)
New York Knicks – sad and embarrassing.

Other than WSU, my sports teams are pretty much mired in a world of suck.

I know there is loyalty to a team, but when its apparrent ownership, the players, managers, GM, etc. etc. aren't making an attempt to put a quality product on the field, isn't it time to find a new team to support? It would be different if they were just having a "Down" couple of years and struggling, I understand "sticking" with your team, but its apparrent this organization doesn't care about its fans. I don't know how you deal with it.

1. WSU Shockers--they're pretty good--perhaps you've heard of them?
2. Georgetown Hoyas--I admire JTIII, but goddammit teach them to BOX OUT ON REBOUNDS!! But they'll still be decent I think.

NBA: I guess the Wizards just cause they're local--but I don't even know where they are in the standings.

Football: KC Chiefs--On the verge of being good for about 15 years now.
No college team really--used to root for the Kitties but they're just so bad now, and I can't watch the games where I am anyway.

Hockey: Red Wings--descending from greatness, but still dangerous.

Baseball: KC Royals: On the verge of AAA ball for about 20 years now. I tried rooting for the Nats too--still the Expos...

Soccer: DC United--terrible collapse in the playoffs for the second consecutive year. But still way better than anyone else in MLS.

I guess I'm in somewhat of a Sports Nirvana right now...

Wichita State Shockers- 5-0, a win over LSU, doing great.

San Diego Chargers- 9-2, LaDainian Tomlinson is the "Michael Jordan of football", first place in the AFC West, also doing great.

St. Louis Cardinals- Don't pay attention to MLB, I just picked these guys out because St. Louis is my favorite city and I like Albert Pujols. And I guess they're the World Champs now.

Miami Heat- I don't pay any attention to NBA either, but I like the Heat's jerseys:grin:

And yes, I chose the Cardinals and Heat as my favorites BEFORE they won the World Championships in their sport. Just a coincidence. I'm really hoping that the Bolts can keep my championship streak alive, but with Marty Shottenheimer as our head coach, we probably won't get passed the AFC Championship game...:helpsmilie:

I understand where you are coming from. The Knicks and the Royals have some of the same problems. I really don't have many positive things to say about the management of either team.

But I will be loyal to a team, to a fault. How do I deal with it? I temper my expectations. I don't go to Knicks games anymore, I'll watch the team on the MSG network for free. If I lived in KC I wouldn't go to Royals games either. However, when I went to WSU, the basketball team was terrible (and had been bad for quite a while) but I still went to every game. The difference, in my mind, was at least the college kids were trying and as student athletes they deserved to be supported.

I'll stick with my teams – despite the fact that the Chiefs, Knicks, Royals have caused me much heartache over the years.

I have no idea what that is....I have never witnessed my team win a national championship in any sport!

New York Knicks-Get rid of Thomas!

Minnesota Vikings- Brad Johnson is older than dirt and throws like dirt.

SIU basketball- Good season so far.

SIU Football- In the quarterfinals but they will let me down at some point. Sorry saluki fans but we will never win it all as long as I am cheering for them.

the difference, in my mind, was at least the college kids were trying and as student athletes they deserved to be supported.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm loyal to a team as long as they are trying, and that not only means the players, but the admin, owners, GM, coaches, etc. etc. I can deal with slumps and down years, as long as I know the organization is making every effort to try and get back to respectability. However, I have no problem abandoning a team if they choose to sell out their fans, by simply not trying any longer. I've been pretty lucky, my favorite teams have never pulled a stunt like that.

There are teams tho, that come to mind that have....

1)the LA Clippers for many years (something finally clicked the last couple years for the front office)

2)the CUBS. If I were a fan, I'd be going nuts. They obviously have money to spend, similar to the Yankees and Redsox, but they don't spend it. Do I think they need to spend as much as the yanks, no, that's a little crazy. Do I think the owner ship doesn't becuase no matter what, they're gonna pack the house? YEP. Cub fans bring this on them selves in my opinion. They pack that dang ball ball park no matter how good or bad their team is. If they'd just a send a message to owner ship that they aren't gonna stand for a lack of performance by NOT! going to games, things in Wrigleyville would get a lot better.

3)the Detroit Lions...Some one fire Matt Millen.

4)As mentioned previously, The KC Royals.

I'm sure there are more. But these are examples of organizations that have quit on their fans now or sometime in the past. I don't have a problem with not being loyal to them, if a team isn't loyal to who pays their pay checks, the fans.

Baseball: Cubs. I don't care what anyone says, as a true Cubs fan, hope springs eternal and the Cubs will be great next year. And yes, I hate the Cards and White Sox and don't listen to Hawk Harrelson because why would I ever watch a Sox game with their low rent southside white trash meth induced fans.

Football: Bears. Great season so far, but am still waiting for the collapse.

College football: No team in particular. Hate Miami and all the Florida teams. I hate Michigan and USC. I also hate the Big XII in general- Nebraska and K-State in particular. So I guess I have teams I hate, none that I really would support. I love the game, but just don't have a team I root for- I root for the team that is playing the team I hate.

College basketball: Love the Valley, great year so far. Don't have a favorite, but since I live in Omaha, I get to see and hear more about Creighton than any other team, but am really not a fan.

NBA: Don't care, it's really not basketball.

NHL: Blackhawks. But since I'm not in an NHL city, it's hard to follow.

Soccer: Hope they all lose. It's a stupid Eurotrash game with stupid rules. Anyone that follows soccer is a communist.

WNBA: Who gives a crap? Really?

Nascar: See WNBA.

Bowling: Guppy Troupe. I think he's dead.

Roller Derby: The Bay City Bombers.

Wrestling: Bobby the Brain Heenan and anyone he manages. I guess I'm old school.

Mud wrestling: The chick with the biggest cans.

Track and Field: If the cops aren't chasing me, I ain't running. So why would I follow the sport?

Off the top of my head, that's about it. If I think of any more, I'll let you know. I can tell you this, win or lose, I'm always in sports nirvana.

Sorry, gotta go with Tiger. I play Golf, but I hate to watch it, its boring, Unless Tiger is on. He is simply messmirizing (Sp?). I haven't seen a more dominant person at their sport since MJ. I feel honored and blessed that I'm at a stage in my life that I can appreciate what I'm seeing, and able to say I saw the greatest golfer to ever live. That's a pretty cool thing to be able to say. Tiger Woods? You have to be kidding me! I know he's the greatest golfer and all. He makes the game look easy. I would rather see John Daly drive the ball 380, make a 180 wedge to within a foot, putt for eagle. Every time he does this, you have to wait and watch him turn around and take a 7 on a par 3. I love the fact that he smokes on the course, drinks beer outside his travel trailer and talks to the fans. In other words, he's human, with great skills, yet human flaws. He is real. Tiger, like every other golfer on the tour, is just a logo wearing robot.

I never understood what was so bad about Carbondale? I like it here. Southern Illinois as a regioin is pretty cool. I will admit there is a certain type of person that does live here, rednecks....shhhh..they'll hear you. But for the most part many people are educated, hard working and polite.

There is a lot to do here, mainly because of the University, but not all. We have college sports, a new minor league baseball team, a nice mall with lots of satelite stores you'll find in every big city. We have The Shawnee Forest in our back yard, which most people can't say. Most people from chicago don't know what a tree looks like. There is Giant City Park, Garden of the Gods, Great Bass fishing, lots of camping and lakes. A nature persons dream.

Southern Illinois also has a HUGE winery business. If you haven't been on the wine trail, you should go. Good wine, lots of fun, and you can get tanked in an hour.

We have Performing arts due to the university and the Marion Civic and Cultural Center. Not bad for a low dense populated area.

And maybe the most fun thing is the bar scene. College kids can get annoying, but for the most part, there is a huge selection and a bar type for everyone. Included in this is great places to eat like Quatros, 17th Street, The Newell House, Tres Hombres, etc etc.

All in all, its a pretty fun pace to live. To top it off, there are no such things as traffic jams in Carbondale......I can't tell you how much that makes my day. I couldn't handle Chicago...there nuts.

NFL: Kansas City- This is probably the last year they can compete for a championship.....but i don't see it happening. I'm impressed with the fact that they were able to win a bunch of games with Huard.

Secondary teams: Nebraska Basketball and Baseball.......The jury is still out on the BB team but i'm sure the Baseball team will be solid again.

You gotta give herm edwards some credit here, 7-4 record with Huard at the helm? :shocking:

Look, as a person Edwards comes off as a nice guy. Additionally, I think he is a good motivator, i.e. he gets his players to play hard. But….Edwards is a terrible game coach. He doesn't seem to have his team prepared – stupid penalties, horrendous clock management, etc. I live in NYC and watched Edward coach the Jets – he was terrible. I don't get to watch the Chiefs all that much but from what I have heard he has not changed.
So that coupled with the fact that the Chiefs always seem to disappoint in the playoffs – I am not optimistic. If Edwards does well – pulls things together – I'll be the first to give him credit.
