The Air Capital is on a roll this year. Hometown boy Nate "Gum Time (http://naterobertson.mlblogs.com/)" Robertson helped pitch the Tigers into the World Series. Another Wichita guy, Robert M. Gates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._Gates), is ready to become the next Secretary of Defense. The city was just awarded the collegiate bowling championships (http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/sports/16124506.htm) for 2007 and 2008 (hear that, Julian?).
And the Shockers are in the top five of the Power Rankings.
If you're questioning WSU's lofty status, I ask you this: Has your team gone on the road and beaten half of last year's Final Four? Didn't think so.
Next three: 12/2 at Syracuse, 12/9 at Wyoming, 12/17 vs. Maryland-Eastern Shore.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Its not jealousy, its a headache, the kind you get from hearing the same things over and over and over and over again from Media and Shocker fans.
Speaking of...why in the world would SIU fans be jealous of Shocker fans. You act like you've accomplished something SIU hasn't in the last 5 years.
PS, I think its great WSU has been playing well, it'll help SIU later when we beat you. So keep winning games. I'm just tired of hearing about it. I don't really remember SIU fans on here in droves posting about how good we are or were. Just an observation.

The one thing that is different about WSU's boasts this year is that they aren't comming WSU fans. They are comming from local and national media outlets. I am always interested to read about other teams, and I thank those that post the stories. Its a joy to see my Valley bretheren winning!

I had no idea SIU followed up it's Sweet 16 year by beating two of the previous year's Final Four teams on the road and attained a #17 ranking.
Please accept my belated congratulations.

True I suppose, but The valley didn't have the respect it has now, so it was pretty tough to get ranked still....secondly, Shocker fans keep touting this big Victory over George Mason. This is a new season, this isn't last years George Mason, they are no where near as good as they were last year. They're not a bad team, and it was still a quality win for you, but this Mason team isn't the final 4 caliber everyone saw last year in March.

Then you obviously weren't around a couple years ago, when SIU finished 17-1. The school newspaper mentioned ValleyTalk and there was an onslaught of SIU fans on ValleyTalk. If you think VT is WSU-dominated now (and it probably is).....that's about how much it was SIU-dominated back then.

Maybe you'll remember these words of yours from Aug 18, 2006:
"WSU in no way shapes up with what SIU and CU have returning. Last year was a fluke for WSU and it will be exposed this year. They sucked until last year, and they will suck after this year. They were just a blip on SIU and CU's radar last year. Shocker fans have fun back in choke land and the NIT this year. It's coming back to stadium near you. SIU and CU have proven they can sustain succes in basketball, which is something Wichia has never proven, and I don't see that trend changing.”
Yep, chokeland is working out real nice for us this year. As Royal pointed out, did SIU prove itself with a #17 ranking after its Sweet Sixteen run?

Let WSU be excited, they have never really recieved this type of media attention! It's been a good 10 years since they enjoyed sucsess in back to back years. They are playing good basketball and putting the valley out there and getting much more publicity because of them. Other posters should not become upset with this, but happy, happy we will have a chance to play a team of that caliber, happy that they are helping out the confrence so much! SIU and CU put the valley on the map, and WSU is now joining them as the elite teams in the confrence, let them be excited, let them bask in the glory, they have deserved it. Our SIU team looks good this year, but we have not proven ourselves like WSU has, so right now, they are the top team in the valley!!!:valley:

Thanks for the rational perspective! Only one quibble. You should probably have said "SIU and CU put the Valley BACK on the map." A number of schools on this board besides SIU and CU can say they have given the MVC national attention through the years.
And its been more like 20 years since they enjoyed success in back to back years.

I can't help but notice that everyone seems to feel that WSU's only recent successful year was last year. Granted, it was the most successful, but the three previous years with NIT appearances, and wins, were also good. I have as high of expectations of this team as anyone, but we can't overlook the good times because of the great times.

I don't think people are cataloging your posts...just simply find all posts by DawgieStyle and in less than a minute you'll find an idiotic post. Sorry kid, you and your fans have brought this on yourselves. You wanted to talk all your shiat about how WSU is going to suck and doesn't have a chance against LSU....just eat the crow with a smile when you're dead wrong. Also, as another poster mentioned, the WSU fans on here are NOTHING compared to when your little doggy school paper put the link to Valleytalk in it.

The only problem with the WSU gets pub, it's good for the league thing is, it is starting to be where they are only mentioning the Shock, and not really talking about the Valley.
I don't want them to start thinking it's a Gonzaga situation this year, where one team is the flag bearer for a mid-major conference.
Basically, I think the Shock are good, I just don't think they're appreciably better than two or three other Valley teams. I also agree that beating Mason is not that special of an accomplishment this year.
The LSU win deserves all kinds of props.

Having a 20 win team with a chance at the NCAA is always a good season. I know it won't be long and WSU will miss the dance, but having a team that is competitive year in and year out is what all fans should strive for. With that said, SIU, CU, WSU, and UNI have all had successful teams over the past 5 years or so. I'm going to enjoy every 20 win season we have and hope for better every year.
Yes WSU is getting extra attention at the cost of other Valley teams (specifically MSU) but had the Bears beaten an under-rated OSU team they would have shared the spotlight. It is too bad there wasn't a new ranking in between the Wisky and OSU game.

I agree with the worry about being perceived as a one-team league. I believe WSU will beat Syracuse and probably run the table, but there are going to be several Valley schools with very good OOC records and once conference play starts, who knows? I don't think anyone can expect to do better than the 4 losses the Shocks had in-conf last year and I just hope that we have gained enough national respect to keep at least one team ranked all year. We should probably have more depending on how much we beat each other up, if 3 or 4 teams separate with good OOC, we should, but you never know with polls. Need to keep on winning thru Christmas, then we can tear into each other.

Personally, I love to see any pub about any valley team. Of course I prefer it to be about SIU, but any valley team will work for me.
The Shocks are going to be very tough this year, but Shaw and Falker continue to put up strong numbers, SIU is going to be just as tough. I cant wait until the conference season starts, this is going to be one hell of a year for valley basketball.
I am going to make a bold prediction, I predicted the Cardinals WS victory in mid season when they were struggling and now I predict AN MVC TEAM WILL MAKE THE FINAL FOUR. I know a lot of you think that is premature, but I think this is the year. Wait and see, I Feel it:salukis: :valley: :sorcerer:
