This should keep turg out of lawrence for awhile and also gives us an idea what the elite basketball coaches are getting.
LAWRENCE - Kansas basketball coach Bill Self has been given a five-year extension on a contract that will pay him a little more than $1.6 million annually if he stays through the length of the contract, the university said today.
If Self should leave before the contract expires in March 2011, he would give up retention money that would drop his yearly pay to $1.375 million.
The contract is retroactive to April 1. Self had two years remaining, including this season, on his old agreement.
"There's no one I'd rather have as our coach than Bill Self," KU athletic director Lew Perkins.
The old agreement paid $1.04 million annually. With the new contract, Self is expected to rank as one of the Big 12's two or three highest-paid coaches.
