Some Cyclone and Hawkeye fans feel the Drake and Northern Iowa games don't help them. That it's a no-win situation - they're expected to win, so who cares if they do? And a loss is a potential Ratings Percentage Index disaster.

Only, this year, it isn't. As of Tuesday night, the Missouri Valley Conference ranked No. 2 in the nation - granted, it's early, but No. 2? - in unofficial league RPI, behind only the ACC. The Pac-10 was third, followed by the SEC and Big Ten. The Big East was No. 7.

The Big 12? Eighth. When the Cyclones visit the UNI-Dome, they're actually scheduling up.

Wow. Somebody noticed. In some ways it has been easier to become a high RPI conference than to get the mainstream media to notice and comment on it. Things do seem to be changing this year though. Good for the Valley.

It's always good to have the media point something like that out. It's easy for fans to ignore us when we say it, but when the media comes in and points it out it's a little more difficult for them. I'm sure they'll still try though.
