That's going to be a good win on the resume. Lipscomb might win 20 games overall with their weaker conference.

We have to be one of the leading teams in all of Div. 1 in terms of foul shooting.

Webster 20-23 FT's is amazing tonight!

Evansville had something like 35 pts from the line tonight. That can be a great strategy, if we can keep the tempo slower and gain a lot of ground from the free throw line.

Evansville 35-43 FT's. Has anybody in Div. 1 done that this year?

It wasn't exactly your typical victory parade.

The University of Evansville wasn't marching home on Lloyd Expressway following its seventh win in eight games and sixth straight at Roberts Stadium.

Instead, the Aces' parade was one at a time to the foul line, where they earned victory by scoring their last 25 points on free throws in an 80-73 win over Lipscomb.
Evansville (7-3) didn't score a field goal over the last 10:01 of the game, but still won by aggressively pounding the ball inside.

"Once they started fouling they seem to get flustered," said UE senior guard Kyle Anslinger. "Once that happened we knew if we kept getting the ball inside to Matt (Webster), that he's real good at getting fouled."

Then Webster responded like a grand master to lead the parade to the stripe. The 6-foot-8 senior power forward earned 23 free throws and made 20, a new school record. That pushed three names tied at 17 - Dan Lytle, Hugh Ahlering and John Harrawood - out of of the record book.

It also helped Webster to 33 points, his second career high in his last three games.

"I had no idea it was going like that," said Webster. "I knew we were getting to the line a lot, but I thought they were just fouling to try and catch up. I didn't know it got that crazy."

The game was simply a complete contrast in styles. The Bisons (7-4) were content to pass the ball around the perimeter and launch long-range bombs. But they were accurate enough to make 13 of 28 3-pointers to stay in the game throughout.

"They were making tough shots," said Anslinger, who finished with 15 points and three assists."But I thought we started guarding them better down the stretch. We got stops when we needed them at the end."

Lipscomb, which won an earlier meeting this season 67-64, last led 62-60 with 4:21 to play on a 3-pointer by Trey Williams.

But after Art Stalbergs tied the score with two free throws, to finish with 11 points off the bench, Webster and Anslinger followed three straight stops with eight straight free throws. Game over.

Lipscomb continued to hit enough 3-pointers to keep it interesting until the final seconds, but Evansville simply overwhelmed the Bisons at the foul line. The final totals found UE 35-for-43 compared to four of 10 for Lipscomb.

"When it's that lopsided it's hard to overcome," said Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson. "They're an experienced senior team and Webster's a great player, a hard cover. I always tell my team you lose road games at the line."

Evansville coach Steve Merfeld felt the Aces simply took advantage of their inside strength.

"If you put the ball inside you're going to get to the line, especially Webster," he said.

"When you have good players who can play with their back to the basket like Matt and Bradley (Strickland), you're going to get fouled. It's that simple."

Strickland was UE's fourth player in double figures but, oddly enough, scored 10 points without a free throw. Webster added a game-high nine rebounds and four assists to his 33points.

Lipscomb had three players in double figures, headed by Brian Fisk with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.

"It was a great game," said Merfeld. "When a team makes 13 3-pointers you have to find a way to win and we did."

from what I've seen of the Aces, is this purple aces team a UNI clone?
