View Full Version : Valley drops to third in realtime conference rpi

With the recent losses and WSU playing a weak rpi team tonight, the conference has just barely dropped behind the PAC 10 for third place in the real time conference rpi.
The fourth place conference, the SEC, is also breathing down our back.:valley:

We'll have to check how that compares to kenpom on Wednesday. Historically, realtimerpi has not included the road factor in their RPI. If realtime still doesn't hae hte road factor in their formula, the Valley's road games compared to the BCS lack of road games will be a signicant factor.
Last year kenpom was very close to the RPI released by the NCAA. Realtime wasn't as close.

All the games for the entire nation are final now.
We still sit at #2. But both the PAC-10 and SEC are right there.
ACC-----> .5981
MVC-----> .5742
PAC10---> .5724
SEC-----> .5724

I like that better. I have a feeling that by the time the conference seasons get underway that we will be in about 5th place.
We are going to take a hit because we start conference season one to two weeks before many of the other conferences (because of bracket busters and we play 18 conference games while many of them play 16).
That gives those other major conferences another week of .700 or so play while we will be at .500 for the games played during that time period.:valley:

i hope you all realize we will not stay at 2 or 3 as the season progresses....and to think so is a bit unrealistic. I would imagine we finish at best #4, but more realistically 5-7 some where.

instead of being a d*** and saying "I hope you realize" why can't you just say "I would imagine we finish at best #4, but more realistically 5-7 some where".

I didn't know there was anything wrong with saying I hope you all realize....you guys read wayyyyy too much into what people type. Not everything is meant to be an insult or a slight.

Problem is you always say things like the rest of the posters on this site are all idiots and you know more than every single person on this board...which we know is hilarious to even think that!!

like i care. I've tried being nice before, didn't work so well, people still take shots at you. I've been mean before, didn't work so well either. I just don't care what any of you think about me, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of life, its a chat board. I'm just gonna post my thoughts and opinions as I have been over the last couple of weeks with out calling any body names (unless its trash talk board). If it comes off mean, so be it, if it comes off nice, so be it. If you want to comment on it, comment on it, if you don't, don't. It's as simple as that.

If the Valley can go 11-0, 10-2, or even 9-2 (most realistic, Ill St. loses and Evansville loses) this week then I think the Valley will finish the non-confrence with the #2 RPI depending on the Bracket Buster. If we finish #2 in the non-confrence RPI then at worst I think we end the season at #4.

so if we end up with a 4 RPI, which I don't think we will, but hypothetically then, how many bids should we get? Or does the conf. RPI not matter at all, as Jay Bilas would suggest?

This conference RPI thing and whether or not the valley is a mid major, high major or undeclared major is all mental masturbation. Here's the deal as I see it this year. We had a huge number of returning starters which makes this league an incredibly experienced one. Next year, we won't have as many starters. Will we be as good? Who's up and coming. What happens when WSU loses four if its starters to graduation...don't jump my shat if you only lose three or two you're not on my list to memorize your roster...go with the flow....Drake will lose four, Evansville must lose some, MSU must lose some...will the Valley be as strong next year? Maybe, probably not. Other conferences reload, we rebuild. We're not getting that McDonald's all american that will go pro before sophmore year like Ohio State, Duke, Kansas, Syracuse, and all those others. Name one Valley player who's an NBA lock. We're playing team ball here and damn good team ball, but without talent and experience, next year our teams could fade. Hopefully we get five bids this year and the Bulldogs get in. Life would be good.:bulldogs: :naughty:

I know they made some stupid comments last year, has anyone heard anything they've said this year? I'm curious as to what their take might be now.

Packer's year seems to go like this:
Do banquet's.
Do motivational speaking.
Pop out of the woodwork and become the authoritative basketball expert once March hits.
Nantz shows up once golf season is over.
All the more reason to take these two guys' opinions VERY seriously. :innocent:

I would think that this year will be the year to make a statement that we can build on as a conference. Next year will be more difficult to achieve the same level of success, but I think 3+ bids for the MVC will be very attainable again. No, we don't have any super frosh comming in, but it is always amazing the way CU has average freshman/sophomores that become very good sophomore/juniors. People will pick up the slack. The top four (preseason) in the Valley also looks like it will return a majority of its starters. WSU loses 2, SMS loses 3, SIU loses 1 (I think), Creighton loses 3. I don't think In. St. loses anyone. I would guess that near 60% of the starters return, so its not all doom and gloom.

Creighton actually looses four:
Starters: Funk, Tolliver & Porter
Reserve: Gakou
We also have two top rated frosh coming in (very highly rated, but not McDonalds AA): P'Allen Stinnett and Kenton Walker. Most importantly though, Isacc Miles will have a full year of experience under his belt.

but far more important is that fact that all of the valley's members are in the top 120 of the RPI......while this won't hold up in conference play, it does make unexpected losses easy to take.

How we are second is beyond me. With the Shox losing tonight and the so-called impressive wins being tarnished somewhat, this is very surprising.

Well some of the teams losing like Xavier to Bucknell and LSU to Washington, may hurt Wichita and Creighton, they in turn help UNI.
So maybe it is balancing out?

You are right we are back up to 2nd. 30 minutes ago when I checked we were 4th (but it was extremely close).
The 2 thru 4th place teams are so close, that just about every time any game anywhere ends it affects the rankings.:valley:

PAC 10 lost 2 of their games tonight as:
Davidson beat Arizona State at ASU
K-State beat USC in Vegas
Washington won at home over Weber State
SEC went 3-2 tonight as well.
I like the fact that the Shockers get a PAC-10 school next too. Every bit helps:valley:

For the conference RPI don't they drop the high and low and then average the rest? If that is how they do it we will be fine all year because we all closely distributed. No one lower than 111.
