At this point, I dont see how Bradley win this game . . .Crouch is injured so our offense is not at full power, and honestly could we score enough on SIU anyway? Falker is going to destroy us inside, we couldnt stop him with POB, how are we going to know?
SIU 55 Bradley 45.

If "the plan" goes well, UNI will beat Creighton on Friday. And Southern Illinois will beat Missouri State on Saturday. Wichita State can beat Indiana State tonight too!
So, now that you have seen..."the plan," I am going to go tell "the plan" to someone else.:Jumpy:

I don't mind Bradley getting this win tonight because there's still a lot of basketball to be played and a loss by SIU helps even things out.

With 59 secs remaining in the game, siu let the clock run down before attemting a shot, why would you not want to shoot with sat 40 + secs remainging to ensure another possesion.

Let's hold up on anointing a "fifth favorite". There's a four-way tie for first place (three of whom have lost to one another in round-robin fashion); that tie should be broken before the "favorite" mantle can be claimed.

Lowery can't time manage to save his life. A 2 for 1 possession attempt was possible. 20+ turn overs. Only score what, 48 points? Heck not only did we lose, we deserved to, we deserved to get blown out to be quite honest. Geez.

You guys are being silly, acting like the Dawgs should have just strolled up to Peoria and rolled the Braves.
Last time I looked, BU is a quick, gritty team that is pretty damn tough at Carver.
BU's defense was also playing tonight and contributed to those SIU turnovers and poor shooting.
This isn't your father's MVC - there are no gimmies (except when UE goes to Springfield).
Give some credit to BU.
Bradley played a basic 2-3 zone for most of the game. I never thought I would see them give up only 46 points. Most of them were on second chance points. Lots of standing by SIU on offense and then they attacked the glass when a shot when up.
There's some fight in these Braves afterall.

Good game Braves. You deserved every bit of that. The Braves played with intensity and if they would have hit a few more of those open shots, this wouldn't have been close.
The road is a killer and I am glad Southern has gotten a few of them out of the way. Although going home to MSU isn't looking like fun.

All of this clock management and milking the clock thing sounds eerily familiar to how Barry lost at SLU and Creighton.

Typical...
You do realize that there was an opponent on the court and that SIU wasn't alone right?
I watched a game where two teams got after each other defensively, which contributed to a lot of contested shots with the shot clock winding down.
I suppose it's in the eye of the beholder, but I tend towards crediting the teams as opposed to diminishing one side by saying the other team beat themselves.
You aren't really contending that BU had NOTHING to do with what SIU did or didn't do tonight are you?
Stop defeating your own point in your posts.

All of this clock management and milking the clock thing sounds eerily familiar to how Barry lost at SLU and Creighton.
Except that it's not. The Ugly Dawgs' entire system is based on tough defense and methodical offense. They've got the slowest game tempo in the Valley, and the second-best defensive ranking. That's how they play. Clock management should be second nature to them.
The Bears run a mid-to-high-tempo motion offense, and they're quite happy to shoot the ball in transition. Their troubles against SLU and CU came when they established a double-digit lead, and then tried to slow the game down. In both cases, they were unable to hold the lead because (a) they missed crucial free throws and (2) their offense isn't built to run on a 10-second shot clock. The Bears run, or they stop; they don't have a "clock management" gear.
SIU generally wins when they hold the opposition in the low 60s. MSU's four lowest-scoring games of the season have been 50, 66, 70, and 74 points. (All three losses are found among those scores.) Saturday's game will be a battle of tempo -- the team that dictates the pace is likely to win.

1st time poster, but I've been readin this board for a few years now.
You people keep talking about giving credit where it is due. I understand. But, lets get this straight: Who called the clear out play against the zone with under a min. where Tatum dribbles at the top of the key, noone on offense moves, and he jacks up a 3 with 25 sec. left? This would have been only slightly more acceptable had the shot been whaled at the basket with over 35 left.
It's bad coaching by Lowery, bad play on Tatum's part, and bad move in general by the Salukis. Yeah, the Braves deserve credit for what they did. Les made a good call to go zone against SIU most of the game. I have no idea why no one else is playing zone against them. I'm sure Barry and Co. have figured out that much. Sat. will be tough for this bunch of Salukis.
However... a zone shouldn't cause 20+ turnovers for a team that's as "experienced" and guard heavy as SIU. PASS THE BALL!!! That's all it takes. Cutters to open areas, continuously, and lots of good, crisp passes!
Sorry about all of the fragments, and the lack of icons... I'm sure you will all jump me for being a negative, bad poster who doesn't credit the right players or teams or whatever, but this effort from SIU was un-inspired, and almost like it was a trap game. They didn't get up for it, and that starts at the top. Yeah, they guarded the 3, but, they didn't prepare to play solid O. Which in the big leagues is important, too.
Hopefully, we can turn it around for Saturday...

Let me tell you what I think about C-Lo. I think he's a very good coach. Great recruiter. Great Preparer. Decent Motivator. Great in practice. Really teaches the game well. Not very good at game management. You can really see this as the game progresses. Ever noticed how SIU runs off about 8-12 points before the 1st media time out every game? Then, all of a sudden they go 6 or 8 min. without scoring? That killed them against BU. Yeah, Les made great adjustments. But, Lowery didn't! None. They're throwin zone at you... what do you do? Panic and turn it over? No...not acceptable for a team as good as SIU. All I said was that Les coached a better GAME... by no means do I think he's a good coach at all. I'm from Peoria (area) and so BU is on my back burner... but as a Saluki Alum, I'm cheerin hard for my Dawgs. Hopefully his assistants will get in his ear a bit more over the next few games.... Go Dawgs!
