I know it's early in the day, but I am super excited about the game tonight. I think ISU has a good chance, and PJ Cuisnard could give us some problems.:sycamores:

I posted this in another thread, but I think it actually belongs here...

This game presents an interesting conundrum.

Coming into the conference season, I would have assumed that I'd be rooting for a Syc victory in this game as to best help my team. After all, WSU had a pretty impressive non-con record and looked to be a challenger for the conference title (not to mention the fact that they have fans like ISASO). Now, Indy St is tied for first place in the conference while the Shox have been struggling. Technically, a win by WSu benefits CU, SIU, UNI and MSU more than an ISU win does right now.

Who will fans of the :jays: :bears: :panthers: & :salukis: root for in this game?

The W and L column is misleading at the start of a season. There are names and places related to the W and L that mean more toward who wins the Valley down the road.

This early in the season I always want the home team to win (unless the hometeam happens to be playing SIU).

Road wins are a premium.

I would be surprised it the Shox lost this one. I would also be surprised if ISU finished ahead of WSU in the final season standings. Add in a loss by CU in Terre haute and I'm going to have to pull for the Sycs tonight. However, I expect to see a WSU win.

I expect WSU to win but I wouldn't be surprised if ISU won. I will be hoping that ISU wins as any road win in this conference is a huge plus and will go a long way.

Let me start off by saying this game scares the HELL out of me. I know how dangerous WSU is and how well ISU has been playing. WSU has been on a period of less than par play for them and you would have to think they'll wake up at some point. On the reverse side ISU has played well enough to win several games in a row now....you would think something has to give sometime soon. However, having said that the Sycamores have not played up to thier previous play in the last two wins (CU and ISU(red)). Shooting was terrible, rebounding was not solid, passing was not as sharp, but the defense has gotten better each game. So will it be time for our shooters to hit again, or will we have a let down game after several wins. I would love for our shooters to be on tonight and for WSU to continue the troubles for one more night, but i don't think this will happen. I predict WSU wakes up and ISU has a solid night as well resulting in one of the better games we'll see this year in the valley. I feel a score of 89-87 happening, yet i simply can't (perhaps don't want to in case of Karma) place a W on either side. THIS SHOULD BE A GREAT ONE.
LETS GO SYCAMORES :sycamores:

If we pull off another win tonight, will some of you finally start to see us as legitimate? :sycamores: Or is it going to take a win tonight paired with a victory over Bradley Saturday night?

MSNSaluki

I assume everybody is going to win out at home so I keep track of SIU's standing in the league by using road games.

Thus, SIU has a slight leg up on UNI due to its win at Illinois State. Indiana State has a leg up on UNI since it won at Illinois State.

Using that logic, I'd assume at this moment, five games into the season, it is too early to be cheering for specific teams based on the standings. I'd think everybody outside of Wichita would be cheering for Indiana State to win because so the Shockers couldn't pick up a precious road win.

And the team that gets the most of those during the season will be the regular-season champion.

Just a thought.

I'm finding it hard to predict what is going to happen tonight. I do think that the Sycamores will find their stroke. Will WSU find their swagger? It is only a matter of time. This game, like all, scare me. We are better, but still young so you never know what you might get. That being said....ISU 72 WSU 68.

Who knows? This really is a chance for the Trees to solidify themselves as contenders, although its still early to define that for anyone in the league, and the Shocks need this badly or it will be 6 out of 7 losses I think.

Should be a battle.

I think it will take a win tonight for some of our own fans (me included) to see us as a truly legitimate team. We've had some very good wins, and we've had some fortunate wins.

If we win tonight, it will go a long way towards my truly "believing" that we can win every game. Right now, I just hope... I haven't truly "believed" that we would win every game since Renn/Menser/Kante era. That's NOT to say that I didn't think we COULD win every game....

There is a difference, and consistancy is the answer.

I kind of agree with this logic. Using the Road Win/Home Loss +/- idea, here would be the current standings (+1 for a road win and -1 for a home loss):
Southern +2
Indiana State +1
Creighton +1
UNI +1
Missouri State +1
Bradley Even
Wichita -1
Evansville -1
Drake -2
Illinois State -2

I'd take the Shocks by 6. WSU needs this game more, but it wouldn't surprise me if InSU wins. They didn't play that well here (neither team seemed to play like they wanted to win), but they have had a strong season so far.

I think everyone pretty much figured for this game to include a team that was really struggling and a team that came in on a nice winning streak. With that said no one would have thought it would be the Shockers struggling and the Trees with a big winning streak. Huge game for both teams tonite. A win by the Sycs and believe it or not they're in first place in the MVC while a loss by the Shockers puts them at a unreal 1-4 in the MVC. ISU is REALLY trying to get some fans to show up for this game. They are offering half priced tickets for all seats for tonite. Me and the son and about 10 friends will be there like always. I can really see us winning this game but it's going to take a big game out of Rico and Moore. Hopefully the crowd shows up tonite.

Sorry, no disrespect intended and InSt has scoreboard over my Jays but I just don't see them as anything but fighting for staying out of Thursday night when it is all said and done.

CU was 4-20 on 3's against them and all but 2 or 3 were WIDE open {watched the game on webcast}. If CU shoots like they have been shooting in all other MVC games, the Jays win by 10+.

That said, I want In St to win for the same reasons others have stated ~ holding home court by others eventually has a slightly positive effect for your own team.

There's nothing better than watching others sweat on a night when your team won the night before.

MVC basketball ~ It's fun!

Not saying InState is top 3, but I think we will stay well out of the Thursday play-in this year.

Although Cold and others may call it a Joan of Arc type of promotion, I like the idea of half priced tickets for tonight's game. In fact, I think it is incredibly shrewd. ISU officials are trying to re-establish fan interest. The first step is to get people to the games. I applaud the move and hope it works out well for the Trees. The fact that half-price night is scheduled to increase attendence against the shox, who have ridiculed CU and other teams over ticket promotions, is just an added bonus.

Some tree supporters have been begging for respect. Winning tonight would do wonders toward your attempts to get that respect from all of the other schools, not just the ones you've beaten.

I think they are better than those teams from what I've seen so far but that gets you up to #7. Now, to move to #6 or #5, you have to finish above one or two of the following:

MSU
WSU
SIU
CU
UNI
BU

Thus, "fighting to stay out of Thursday night" stands as my opinion.

Yeah, I really should have explained that better...

1,000 total students that get in free for all games. School just happened to be back in session after a long break.
That left about 2,300+ extra Non-Students that took advantage of the 1/2 off ticket.

Students get in free at Creighton as well (well, they have to pay some sort of mandatory fee with tuition that includes free entrance to all sporting events and other activites.)

Are there any Valley schools that don't let in students for free?

ShockBand
01-11-2007, 02:21 PM
WSU is technically free, though the credit hour fees are pretty hefty nowadays. I think it used to be that mens basketball student tickets did cost, but it was very inexpensive, on the order of $2-3 per game or $25 for a season ticket or something like that.

Actually, using your logical argument, Indiana State actually has a leg up on UNI by winning at Illinois State - this is the only common opponent/location they have with a different result.
