Back to the game at hand, looks like Indiana St. should be able to fend off the Shockers. Have to make those layups or else you're never going to get in. After the UNI make yesterday though to send our game into OT, I won't put this one into the books yet.

The crazy thing about this game, unlike MSU, is that Ind. St., with all due respect, played pretty bad in this game.

WSU's conference schedule has been brutal so far. The next two or three weeks are a bit better for the Shox, so I fully expect them to be at least .500 in conference play by the end of the month.

I'm glad that you aren't a reporter. Here's the whole quote. Note this was an "If" statement.
"If you sit there and keep a calendar of what sporting events I am likely going to go to, you must have a crappy life."
My mom says I take after my father going to sporting events just for the love of sports. Ever since I can remember, we have been going to events. We still go to a lot of events, but it's now something I enjoy doing with some of my best friends. Doesn't matter if we have a vested interest in the teams, we just love sports. My father has been to numerous Indiana St. games dating back to the Larry Bird era. I may have to follow in his footsteps. Looks like InSU has some exciting games going on in the Hulman Center. So, honestly, I don't think I need you to tell me what I am or am not likely do to. Just because I haven't been there for a non-ISU event doesn't mean I wasn't planning it. You may say I'm "overreacting", but honestly, I'm just responding to a statement you made that concerns me that was really none of your business.

Gee, this is kinda fun!!!
And as for Royce's job situation, if we keep playing well, and can get around .500 on the conference season, he should get a nice two-year contract extension. The job he's done this year has been nothing short of miraculous. And with all he's been through in the last 5 years, forget the teams, I'm talking cancer for both him and his wife, he deserves every bit of this!!!

Am I the only one here that thinks the Shox played well tonight? They missed shots, but they executed everything else pretty well. Only 11 turnovers for the game, outrebounded ISU by 7, and made a good majority of their points on easy layups and close shots. They were far from settling for jumpers.
At the moment, they just can't buy a break. For example, WSU scored on 6 of their first 10 possessions (including 4 layups, a pair of FTs, and a short jumper... easy stuff), yet they were down by 7 because Indiana State was bombing away from deep. Missouri State opened up 7 for 7 from 3 point land against WSU on Sunday. In this game, Indiana State opened up 5 for 7. Also, balls rolling around the rim and falling off just happen sometimes. I don't think you can blame the player's focus or effort. Some times things just don't go your way. I know this has been a long stretch now to feel that way, but I'm convinced that this is still a very, very good team just waiting to catch a few breaks.

Here are some more stats.
Points in the paint:
WSU 44
ISU 14
ISU won because they hit shots and we didn't. With WSU's stuggles recently in playing post defense, I thought we did very well tonight in that area.
After 7 3-pointers in the first half, ISU opened up the 2nd half with 3 more before the first media timeout. That had to be hard for the Shox after they had clawed their way back to within 3 at halftime. They still didn't give up, and had many chances near the end. Sooner or later, Shocker opponents will come back to earth shooting wise, the breaks will start falling our way, and suddenly all these problems this team "suppossedly" has will vanish.

01-11-2007, 09:32 AM
There is a reason MSU and ISU started out so hot from 3... We don't guard the perimeter worth crap!! If we are going to let teams just set up and play a game of "around the world" from the arc, then we will continue to see those kinds of numbers. There are 2 reasons why the perimeter has been so open for WSU opponents: 1) coach T does not trust our big men to defend in the post, so guards continually double down, leaving their man wide open, and 2) our guards are extremely slow footed and are getting beat continually off the dribble, causing players to have to rotate for help, again, leaving someone wide open from outside. Solution, we need to man up and guard! No more doubling, no more getting beat off the dribble.

I was at the game and I agree with you. Their game play was well executed. MT had the Shocks looking for the double team and they got plenty of open shots for it. You can't fault the Shocks tonight. As mentioned before, unlike the last 5 seasons, the Sycamores have more than one or two scoring options now. We have shooters now also. A great game by both sides tonight.
Also, refs seem to get a lot of jaw on here, and deservedly so, but last night wasn't all that bad. There were a few calls both ways that weren't great, but you can get that in every game. I just wanted to put that out there. They kept a good flow going last night.

You can "man up and guard" all you want but I think T doubles down so often because the frontline is a weakness for WSU. The double teaming should also help protect the inside players from getting fouls – although it doesn't seem to be the case lately. In any event, WSU cannot afford to have Wilson, Martin, or PT in foul trouble.
I didn't see last night's game but the frustrating thing about the MSU game is that MSU should not have had a big advantage inside, provided the aforementioned Wilson and PT were on the floor. Furthermore, it is not like they were not guarding MSU's guards, I seem to recall several very long 3s going in – there is not a lot you can do about that. WSU made mental mistakes, committed fouls, etc. at very bad moments in the game – which lead to easy points and to MSU getting into the double bonus early. I could go on but it is hard to come back in that kind of situation.
The team looked tense to me; tight. Like they were afraid to lose, afraid to fail. If you are afraid of failure, odds are you will fail.
Anyway, congrats to ISU and MSU on their respective wins. The next three games will probably make or break WSU's season.
