What's your definition of alright? If you mean making it to the N.I.T. then I would agree with you.

Pass this guy some Kool-aid. That has to be the dumbest thing I've seen yet on these boards, if you're serious.

I've never really liked KC, but the way the Shocks are playing now, I agree with him.

WSU losing 6 of 7.. Me agreeing with KC...

Southern Cal is 13-4 and should be in the top 15. Doesn't hurt you.
New Mexico hurts, but they're not awful.
Northern Iowa hurts because it was at home, but UNI is one of the MVC's best.
Southern Illinois is a road loss to a terrific team. Doesn't hurt you.
Missouri State is a road loss to a terrific team. Doesn't hurt you.
Indiana State is a road loss to a terrific team. Doesn't hurt you.

You've played a brutal schedule so far. You'll start winning, and you're a lock for the NCAA tourney.

Minor meltdown over on Shockernet. The following is a closing line to a thread about whether or not it's the coaches fault:

Please enlighten me oh great d-bag.

It made me chuckle...

IMHO, for the Shocks to get to the NCAAs without winning in STL, they need to go at least 11-3 and make it to the conference tournament championship game. That would have them at 23-10.

Right now that looks like a pretty tall order. I'm just not seeing the drive and fire that they had last year. Oh, and it might help to knock down your bunnies and open three ball looks a little better too.

I still think that if the Shockers finish 11-7 in conference, they'll make it in the tourney with their resume. With a 1-4 start, though, that might be tough to do in this conference.

LSU and Syracuse must be saying..... great, we schedule them, lose to them, and now they kill our RPI!  Seriously, your RPI is good enough if you start winning, have not had a BAD loss in conference, so hope is not lost yet. Winning conference championship though is very unlikely. Just win baby.

You have 6 straight winnable games (none of them will be easy, of course.) I guarantee once the ball starts bouncing your way you'll be back on track.
Hey, last year's national was a very pedestrian 5-6 in one stretch right before the SEC tournament after starting 17-0. It happens, thankfully you have some success to fall back on in the nonconference.

They're three games out of first, with 13 to play. Does anyone really believe that some team in this conference is going to finish with a 15-3 (or better) record?

Nope. I posted a few weeks ago that I thought 13-5 would win the MVC... now I might be convinced that a couple teams may finish on top at 12-6.

Unless someone gets it together quick, I don't see a dominant team in the league... maybe MSU at this point, but who knows for sure. Considering the wins that ISU and ISU have, plus Bradley and Evansville will get their wins... Cu, WSU, MSU, SIU and UNI should all finish above .500 - who's going to absorb all of the losses? Drake only plays 18 games in the MVC.

Haven't all of WSU's losses in this stretch been by 5 or fewer points? They're playing everyone very close, on the road, and against the top teams in the conference -- SIU, MSU, InSU, and UNI (at home). What is there that makes you think the team is going further south each game? It's not like they are losing games to crappy teams all of a sudden.

This team played Indiana State tough on the road. If you're too blind to see that no one can or will beat the Trees at home, you can call it a bad loss. That's the toughest road game the Shockers will play all year.

What away games do you even see them winning?

Illinois st?
Bradley?
Evansville?
N. Iowa?
Drake?
CU?

I'm afraid that they are done.

I agree it's not a bad loss (see my post above). But let's not get carried away. Indiana State will lose at home this year. They are tough there, for sure, but a Creighton team that at the time could not throw the ball into a bathtub had a shot on the final possession of the game. The league is just too good this year to guarantee anyone goes undefeated at home -- it could happen, but it's not a guarantee. And I think the boys at SIU, MSU, UNI, and CU would take some issue with InSt. being "the toughest road game the Shockers will play all year" -- not to mention LSU and 'Cuse.

Tennis08 if you are saying INSU will go 9-0 in the Valley at home, I will gladly make that bet right now. With all due respect to the Sycs who will obviously finish above where they are picked, they are not going to be the toughest road game in the conference...

Granted ISU is much better than we thought, but I distinctly remember wichita beating SU and LSU on the road, and not to mention they had to come to SIU which is a house of horror for every team in the valley.....

I thought the team looked good tonight. I definitely wouldn't say they looked worse than the games in Vegas, or the game at SIU, or the game at MSU. Shooting will come and go, but tonight they executed things fairly well I thought.

Home games will be nice. Expect the Shockers shooting to pick up considerably, and with it, you can expect to see the wins start flooding in. This WSU team is going to surprise quite a few doubters in the next few weeks.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think our early Valley season should be attributed to more than just home/away. Granted, I look for the upcoming home games to help, but winning JUST at home isn't gonna cut it.. :banghead:

Will WSU be alright? I have no idea. I was back in Wichita last week so I went to the Bradley game and watched the MSU game on TV. WSU had a lot of things go their way last year – that is not happening now. Couple that with the fact that WSU players seem to be making stupid mental mistakes – which they rarely did last year. WSU wins by playing smart basketball – when they don't – well, we know what happens.

WSU has had a brutal schedule lately but they are not getting blown out. I think the biggest issue will be whether the players can pull themselves out of this funk. The talent is there but losing like this regardless of how tight the games are has a way of building on itself.

They cannot lose anymore home games, period. If WSU beats Evansville, CU at home and follows that up with a win at Illinois State I'll obviously feel a lot better as it will bring them to 500 in conference play and hopefully restore the team's confidence. After that they have road games at Bradley, Evansville, Northern Iowa, Drake and Creighton. IF they hold home court (and that is a big IF) even if they lose 3 of 5 of those road wins, I believe that will put them at 20-9 overall and 12-7 in conference. Which will probably put them in 3 or 4th in the league and squarely on the NCAA bubble – in my opinion that is the best case scenario – win a couple in the conference tournament and WSU will get an at large bid.

The problem is – until I see WSU pick itself up and start playing better – I have a hard time seeing this happening.

I meant the toughest conference road game.

... and I still say that, with all due respect to In.St. and how good they have been at home this year, perhaps you've never actually seen what it's like to go into SIU, MSU, CU, UNI, etc. -- I think fans from each of those places would likely argue with you (for good reason) about whether In.St. is going to be WSU's toughest conference road game of the year ...

MSU and SIU are just nasty environments to go into and try and get a win. CU and UNI just play so much better at home (and both places have crowds that are improving and making the environment itself tougher all the time) that they are very difficult places to get wins.

We're not the toughest place to play in the Valley. It's getting tough, but SIU and MSU has to be the king of tough home courts.

This is right on the money. The Shocker are bound to sneak back in because they are getting tough road trips out of the way. None of these losses are bad losses. Last year my Bluejays lost at Tennesssee Chattanooga and DePaul, both turned out to be "bad losses".

I am willing to bet that the Shockers completed conference schedule to date is the toughest of all the MVC at this point. Who else has already gone to Missouri State, SIU and Indiana State? Who else has only one game left against UNI?

I haven't looked at WSU's remaining schedule but I bet it shows potential for a strong finish. Of course you have to play one game at time.

Agree oh Angry one. WSU will finish high but with 4 losses already, first place would now be a miracle.

Issue is in college bball, confidence is EVERYTHING and getting stuck with a tough early schedule in-conference and losing can hurt the confidence and cause issues against teams that you normally handle later.

We'll see. 11-7 or 12-6 by the Shux is still where I see them. Unless my Jays get more consistent, I'm afraid we'll be right abour there too. 14-4 is a guaranteed conference title and 13-5 has a chance so need to get it going and pick up a few unexpected wins.
