I haven't heard how the Valley is expected to turn out this year. WSU is always strong and baseball doesn't have the scheduling issues that basketball has with scheduling the Big 6. I would love another trip to Omaha.

The Illinois St. Redbirds have the best SOS to start the season. Part of it could be teams don't mind playing us though...

Baseball is a long season, rankings at this point make no difference.

Yeah, a lot of it is who Illinois St. is playing. I thought this team would be better considering the fact that they are so experienced, but I watched them play Mizzou on Wednesday and wasn't incredibly impressed.

The Shox are now 14-2 and ranked #20 in one poll.
Their biggest win so far is 12-2 at OU.
I believe that this team has a lot of potential but so far they seem to mostly be playing at the level of their competition.

I agree they have a lot of potential. Wow, how much did Gene dumb down the schedule. The only quality teams that WSU has played so far are Southern Miss and Oklahoma.

S. Miss, Stetson (and maybe S. Alabama) will likely be considered quality opponents by the end of the year.
WSU also faces Long Beach State (3 games), ORU (2 games), Arkansas (1 game), Nebraska (1 games), OU (2 games) and USC (3 games).
So judgement will have to be delayed on WSU.

The real question is how much are you dumbing down this board. Do some research before you post please. WSU's non-con this year, when it is all said and done, will likely be the toughest it has been in a while.

Look you can resort to name calling or you can choose to take your Shocker blinders off. 5 games with Hilo, 3 with an average Nicholls State squad, 3 with a North Dakota State team that had one of the worst RPIs in all of baseball last year, 3 with Fordham of the dominant A10, 2 with a not fully Division 1 Northern Colorado, and sprinkle in Division 2 Emporia State. You're right what was I thinking? That's as tough of a schedule as anyone in all of college baseball is playing. Sure games with Long Beach and USC help, but the Valley isn't very good in baseball outside of S. Illinois and Creighton.

You really should do your homework if your going to troll effectively. Otherwise, you will be owned on this board.
Make fun of WSU schedule to this point all you want - no Shocker fan will argue that it hasn't been strong. But last I checked the season still runs through May and when all said and done, WSU non-conference schedule will be better than alot of B-12 teams. Would you like to me to name them?

I don't dispute that Wichita State's non-conference schedule will be better than a lot of Big XII teams. But Big XII teams don't need as tough of a non-conference schedule because they all play three teams that made it to Omaha last year. The Valley top to bottom isn't that good in baseball in my opinion. I believe that WSU's recent struggles in the NCAA Tournament may be caused by the fact that the Valley doesn't push them enough. If Guttin can ever turn things around at Mo State then I think that the Valley will be a good baseball league again, but as of now it is WSU, Creighton, and 8 other marginal teams.

I'll grant you the B12 is better conference in baseball than the MVC. Thats the hand that WSU has been dealt with. WSU schedules the best non-conference it can. Thats all they can do.

WSU recent struggles IMO is more because WSU has not been able to field a balance team. In recent years there has been a significant weakness in some part of their team. In some part these weaknesses were caused by the bad luck of key injuries. Plus lets face it, they have just flat underachieved at times (Arkansas and Wichita regionals come to mind).

Well, your right the Valley can't expect to have success nationally with just WSU carrying the banner year after year. They need at least 2 other teams to do consistently.
