Dismantled is such an ugly word. Every team is entitled to at least on bad game where things aren't clicking. That was ours. Can't wait for your return to Hammons and I hope you come in cocky.

Man we are 1 game out of first, and bradley doesn't even make the poll. I don't think we will win the valley, but at this point we have just as good as shot as WSU and InSU who are on that list....man we get no respect.
Might as well be chopped liver here on VT. RPI of 27. SOS of 8. And there's already murmurs on here that we aren't even a bubble team.

no offense Bro, BU isn't a NCAA tourney team at the moment, sorry. Bubble, yes, but if I remember last year about this Time, BU was in a similar situation on the outside looking in. Then they reeled off 10 of 12, and snuck in the dance. The difference this year is the valley over all is better, and more importantly you don't have POB or Summerville to carry you, not to mention Crouch is injured still. I don't think you will be going 10 of 12 this year to make the dance.

Lets see Last year:
20-10 11-7 (got to championship game, won bracketbuster)
RPI 33
SOS 50
non-cof RPI 39
non-cof SOS 130
Bad Losses (100 RPI down): Loyola Chi (A), Drake (A), Indiana St (A)
This year So far:
12-6 4-3
RPI 27
SOS 8
non-cof RPI 27
non-cof SOS 39
Bad Losses (100 RPI down): Tenn Tech (A)
If we finish the rest of the season 7 -4 (realistic I think), and win the bracket buster that puts us at:
20-10 11-7
Win a game or 2 in the tournament (btw making us 9 - 4 or 10 - 4 to finish the season, not 10 of 12 but not bad) and we have better resume than last year in a conference that is tougher than last year.
How don't we get in (assuming we play to our potentional)?

not really my logic, I view MSU and SIU as basically 1A and 1b at the moment....in other words tied for first. I used as my tie breaker their game head to head. I chose SIU as #1 based on that.
I don't view UNI and CU as equal, mainly because aside from your road victory at UNI, you suck as a road team. I'll take UNI to finish ahead of CU, based on the blue jays road woes.

I think the Bears have a much more Favorable schedule of remaining games than SIU.
And I think our next 7 games are very favorable to us......the toughest teams are at home and the easier teams are on the road.....IF Mo. State plays their game they could easily get to 12-2 with 4 games to go........even 11-3 with 4 to go would be very good.
MSU remaining Road games (14-19)
Eville (2-5)
Drake (1-6)
INSU (4-2)
UNI (4-2)
WSU (3-4)
SIU Remaining Road games (19-15)
Eville (2-5)
Creighton (5-2)
WSU (3-4)
MSU (5-2)
INSU (4-2)
CU remaining road games (16-19)
MSU (5-2)
BU (4-3)
Drake (1-6)
SIU (5-2)
ILSU (1-6)
So if Everybody Holds home court......which is a far out assumption.....I think it is safe to say that MSU has the easiest road of the three teams remaining....since MSU's only two losses came to CU and SIU on the road and they are tied they have to have the inside track......IMHO
MSU has the best conf. road win so far in Bradley.......CU has the second at UNI.

As the rest of us beat the crap out of one another, Evansville, Illinois State, and Drake come roaring out the tank and snag the top three spots while the rest of us tie for fourth. Because WSU and SIU are knotted at the 6 and 7 slot and the tiebreakers can't break it, Elgin calls for Cold and DawgieStyle to have a duel at midcourt the day before the tournament starts. Tazers at five paces. Dawgie gets his shot off first with a solid double connection to the chest, but as Cold holds his ground writhing in pain, he manages to hit Dawgie in the left pec and grapes. Dawgie tries in vain to stay on his feet, but as his grapes try to crawl away from the voltage he goes down. Shocks avoid the play-in round, by a "whisker".

2-2 in the Valley on the road right now...this isn't the same team that played in December or January...but you are certainly afforded the rights to your opinion.

Maybe another poll for # of losses for the eventual Valley winner? I'm going with 5.
1. SIU (I think defense will ultimately win it this year)
2. CU (2nd in a close race)
3. UNI (cruise to 3rd)
4. MSU (this is where it gets murky, but MSU has a lead on WSU of 2 games)
5. WSU (WSU down 2 games to MSU presently & WSU Final Game=Creighton, again. Does that make 3 out of the last 5 years?) ?? :ranting:

you act as if I'm only figuring into my equation the valley road records.....the season started long before Jan. 1st. SIU has proven all season they can win on the road, including non conf. No offense CU hasn't. That's not a flame, or a slap in the face, its a fact.

I hope this is the way it is (with maybe a switch at 1 and 2). Brings me back to the old days - and by old days I mean 3-6 years ago. Good times. With all the close games and buzzer beaters CU has had in the past few years, my favorite game is still 2003 championship against SIU. And that's why it is a true rivalry.

No one with more than a 1/2 game to 1 game lead. If even 1 of these teams goes into one of the top 6's home court and pulls off an upset (or 1 of the top 6 go to IlSU and lose, though unforseeable...it is a road game)....This ranking goes completely out the window.
I still think the Jay's win the Valley, with about 5 or 6 other teams right on their azz.:valley:

I really don't think that 6 bids is out of the question. Look around the country and the lack of bubble teams. I see a close race between Brad and InSU for sixth, although it might be better to finish 7th, just because of the fact that you get an extra game in St. Louis against a poorly coached E-Ville team...

We're gonna find out THIS WEEK if SIU can win the league.
@UE
@CU
v. UNI
If SIU comes out with 3 wins, they SERIOUSLY have the upper hand. If they come out with 2 losses... they are in serious trouble, and I would have to pick CU. If they win 2... then, I'd say it's good shape with a needed win at either MSU or WSU in Feb.
Now... with the STRENGTH of the Valley (cuz parity sounds weak) none of that could matter with an ISU or a UE sneaking up and beating MSU or CU or UNI!!!!
I LOVE THE VALLEY!!!

1 & 2. SIU/MSU (too close to call; these two teams are head and shoulders above the rest)
then:
3. CU (too inconsistent and not deep enough in the frontcourt to be included in the top 2)
4. UNI (Bigs are hard for rest of MVC to stop)
5. WSU (should have blown out CU with as sloppy as CU played, but only won by 3; I expect MSU & SIU to beat WSU at Koch like UNI did)
6. BU (always tough at home, but living by the three is dangerous; probably won't win road games against top teams)
7. InSU (not as good as first advertised; CU & WSU losses at InSU will haunt them as SIU & MSU will not lose there)
8. UE (will be tough, but beatable, at home; weak on the road)
9. Drake (might sneak up on some teams at home)
10. IlSU (just too inexperienced - next year is your year as you return everyone but the top teams all lose key cogs)

I don't have a clue who will win the Valley, but I do know it's going to be a dog fight. I did a homer pick and chose my Shockers. Realistically I know with the Valley being even tougher than last year it's going to be harder to finish as strongly as my Shockers did last year. The Shockers have already got their really tough stretch out of the way and anythings possible.

I've got an easier game - Powerball.
Six teams within one game of each other right now? With WSU one more game behind them? All of whom have lost only once at home if at all? Who will win the Valley? I predict this question will still be thrown around on Feb. 23.
I predict this will happen, using a random number generator: (good as anything right now)

You know you should really quit worrying about some "whining" post on valleytalk (it's the just the internet afterall) and worry about what's actually going on, like WSU being behind BU in the standings...or does that hit a little bit to close to home, to be sitting behind the preseason 8th ranked team?

I agree with the madman...right now a random number generator may be as good as anything. But someone in this league will avoid the upsets, injuries and get better as the season goes on and win a few big road games too. I predict that someone will be either SIU, Creighton, Mo. I still think WSU is the most dangerous team in the league, plus they've got the easiest remaining schedule. They had a brutal start to their schedule and got some tough games out of the way. I'd have them higher if I knew CU wasn't garunteed another win when they play us. I'm also pretty ify on putting MSU so high since I haven't seen Hinson close the deal on anything yet (but they have the most offense). SIU's D is so solid they will be in every game. UNI can easily move up some spots, but after their last two games they didn't look as good as I thought, plsu they've been a little too inconsistent.

Exactly my point. We sucked on Saturday. It happens. Couple that with an offensive explosion that the dogs likely won't duplicate for the rest of the season, and well, you have 20 point blowout. Do I see that as a good indicator on how the rest of the season will play out? Not in the least.
Exactly. SIU had by far their best offensive game of the season, one they probably will not duplicate again this year. MSU played their only truly bad game of the year so far. It happens. The real test will be in Springfield when SIU's shooting percentages come back to Earth, and when MSU goes on the road to Evansville. If we can take care of business there, like SIU didn't, we'll be in the driver's seat.

At this point, I think that :bears: is in control of their own destiny. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they won the league outright.

oh like im gonna take any crap or be bothered from the road warriors from Omaha...please.
In all fairness DS, Creighton did win at both UNI and UE. That's something the Salukis have been unable to do.

no offense, unlike many on this board, I don't forget the play of teams during the non conference once Valley play starts up. In fact, its more imporatant to at large consideratin in my opinion, as long as you finish in the upper half of the valley.

No offense, but this thread is about who will win the VALLEY, not who did what in the non-conference season.

Ugh....
Don't worry. The Braves will have lots of chances to pad their tourney resume this year. Their first QUEST for respect lies on 94 feet of hardwood in Omaha tonight. I must admit this will be a tough task but this group has suprised all year. If not tonight there are other nights. We are less than half way in and a wild weekend in St Lou before it is over.
But really, BU should be in the poll.

In answer to your question, I think the team with the best conference record at the end of conference play should win. Based on that, CU. If anyone up in Cornland appreciate my opinion or vote please buy and send me some of them Omaha Steak meat deals. This hillbilly does appreciate some of the finer things in life.
