I doubt this has been done...maybe it has...but I think it is time...
We need to Trash talk(complain) about the Refs in the MVC. Do we have any good trios. They want to control the game and can't keep the whistle quiet. Yeah they were bad against UNI but there have been other games. It seems like every game it is called one way (let em play)the first half and the other way(ticky tack fouls) in the second. If we want to be a big conference we need to get some good quality refs.

there are no such things as "valley" refs. Those same refs do Big 10 games, Big 12 games, OVC games, etc. There are no MVC refs, this thought process has to stop. Geez.

This talk may have to stop, but K. Davis was on the radio in Des Moines a few weeks talking on the subject. He said that the MVC has the coaching, the players and now they need the officiating to get over the next hurdle.
It was a great interview as he outlined a lot of the steps they have taken. It was a little odd that he mentioned this year they are trying new things (ie young officials with seasoned) and constantly evaluating the teams of officials. If the coaches and league officials are discussing the quality of officiating as the number one thing holding back the league, I think this thread is valid.

The problem with College Basketball Officiating in general, IMO, is that we don't have three guys that work together every night. They work ungodly schedules mixed in with horrendous travel and then don't know who they are working with until they show up at the venue.
Put referees in permanent 3 man crews. One premier official (Hightower, Higgins, Welmer), One Experienced Middle of the Road (Dan Daley, Kip Kissinger, Zelton Steed), One Young (Mike Thibideoux, etc). Restrict them to working a maximum 4 nights a week and an average of no more that 3.5 per week.
They can develop a comraderie and be better rested. Its a win/win for everyone...:valley:

Is it normal for ref to do both D-I and D-II games. I jsut did a quick google and found out that two of the refs (Mark and Gene) do D-II games sometimes...as recently as last month. Is it normal if it is it needs to be fixed. You can't have D-II refs reffing a big D-I game

Is there such a thing as a good ref? Have you ever been to a game where you liked the refs? IMO.. they are a part of the game of basketball. Sometimes you get screwed, sometimes you dont.. its part of the fun. Nothin we can do so I think we should all shut our trappers on this little "debate"

I would like to go to a game and not notice the refs. That is what they are hoping for as well. There hasn't been a game yet at Roberts, that I've not had to look at my program to see who they are.

The truth about refs is that they all suck. Every one of them. That is of course if you lose. If you win, they are as professional as heart surgeons.

One ref never blew his whistle..
One ref called a good game...
and one ref favored UNI the whole night...
They let them play a little bit, I thought it was well officiated.
