The end is near for another frustrating year in Normal. I want fans of the other MVC programs to answer this simple question for me, "What is wrong with the Redbirds" Is it lack of tallent? Is it coaching? Is it both?

This team has frustrated me to no end. Going into the year I felt like we had the ability to at least compete. At times we have seen flashes, like UNI, at SIU, etc etc. Then we get blown out by 30. There are many on our own board with their own opinion, I'm not sure I can tell for sure. I'd sure appreciate the objective opinion from other MVC fans.

Inconsistency is what's hurting ISU. I believe you have the talent to do much better than you are, but some games they just play like crap.

Couldnt agree more. The talent and effort are there, but the execution has been inconsistent. When we play to our potential, we can beat anyone and there have been times when we look really, really good. On the flipside there are times when we flat out look awful and dont execute whatsoever. I attribute a lot of that to inexperience. Its awfully difficult to take 6 newcomers into a conference like this and expect everything to be roses right away.

We have had some nice wins, but also lost many games we should've won. I think we are a lot better team than what our record shows, but we just havent been able to bring it every night, and that is a requirement in this league. As for the future, it looks OK. Losing Dilligard after this season is gonna sting, but graduation isnt hurting us as much as some other teams. Next year we will have a ton of returning experience, and so far also have a good recruiting class. Maybe next year we can actually avoid Thursday...

I really like your backcourt. But like you've said, inconsistency and inexperience will eventually take its toll on your team. But I've seen improvement over the past few seasons.

I to think that ISU has improved greatly over the last few season, the problem for ISU is that so has every other team in the MVC. I will get better for ISU. This year there was a lot of returning starts on the good teams. So that did not leave much room for a bottom team to move up.

I don't know what to think of ISU because both times Bradley has played them, they've looked terrible (besides the first 5 minutes of the game on Saturday night). Bradley did not play great by any means on Saturday and still won pretty easily. I think part of it though is that Bradley matches up really well against ISU. I honestly am surprised you've beaten some of the teams you've beaten this year from the two games against Bradley. I think it's a lot of things including team work, schemes, and coaching.

Porter is the problem. He really appears to be in over his head at times...

From a BU fan perspective, seems like Porter can recruit but has trouble motivating. All the ingredients are there: facilities, fan base, resources . . . not to mention built-in rivalry with one of the great Midwestern basketball traditions! Not sure what the answer is. Maybe Porter needs to find his own version of Chuck Buescher.

It's simple: A lot of Valley teams have a ton of returning starters this year and Illinois State features a starting lineup of newcomers.

I'd say ISU will be much improved next year.

ISU has a ton of first year players playing a lot of minutes = inconsistency. Physically, I don't think ISU is as strong as a lot of the other MVC teams.

This is only his fourth year, he came into a bad situation and deserves at least one more year. Once you start the head coaching carousel, sometimes it's hard to stop.

I think Illinois St. is one the rise. I expect you guys to compete for the top spots next year. Osiris Eldridge is one of the best freshman. Levi Dyer has a strong possibility of having a total breakout senior season. The other players you just brought in will gel together. Yeah, I fully expect Illinois State to finish in the top half of the conference next year.

I put it on coaching. IMO, youth should not be an acceptable excuse in Year 4.

But it's not my baby....

This quote by a forth year guy after the BU game said it all for me:

Said Dilligard: "We got a little tired and started to let up a little bit. And they took advantage of a lot of opportunities. That's something you can't do."
