UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero and staff members toured Koch Arena on Thursday.
UCLA is renovating Pauley Pavilion with HOK, the Kansas City architectural firm that turned Levitt Arena into Koch Arena.
The projects are similar, so UCLA wanted to see how HOK updated and improved an on-campus arena.
"They wanted to keep the integrity of the atmosphere and the nostalgia of the building," Schaus said. "They were really impressed with our facility."
The group from UCLA was at Texas earlier Thursday, and left Wichita to see Kentucky's facilities. Showing off Koch Arena is a regular job for Schaus. A group from Illinois State will take a look today. About 15 people from Southern Illinois looked around earlier this month. SIU plans to renovate SIU Arena soon.

Definitely something to be proud of, Koch always has that college basketball aura about it. The arena has it too, but it just isnt up to the standards of nowadays arenas. Its a good thing SIU has been able to maintain a competitive program, it is definitely pushing for changes. Football has done the same thing, its too bad the Mac is such an eyesore and has taken up precedence over the arena in regards to repair/rebuilding.

What our staff and players have been able to accomplish with our horse bleep facilities is nothing short of miraculous.

Your right... Its classy to make fun of a building that a ton of people worked their asses off to get built in an area less than a third the size of your beloved Wichita.
We are so happy to finally have an arena at UNI, how dare you degrade it because its not in your hometown, you pompous ***...

Settle down champ! You guys got a nice little thing up there. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since you're all bent out of shape. How do you say, "less is more", "big things come in small packages", I'll just go with that to make you happy.

That's great. I really mean that, I'm not trying to sound like a jerk.
But it's not like UCLA had to tour Koch to know HOK does a kick *** job at building sport venues.

I believe that UCLA's feelings about the place carry more weight in this world than anyone here.

Well it seems to me that some of the attention whores on here have their team tanking. They just need to find something else nobody cares about to draw the attention to themselves

Nice quote - too bad it wasn't a direct quote from a UCLA person and instead was from the WSU AD leaving room for question. In the courtroom, that's called hearsay.

WSU deserves a lot of credit for doing what they did. That being said, teams win games, not facilities. We're ranked with horse dump facilities (except for the Troutt-Wittman training center which is 7500 square feet of magic.) Meanwhile, look at the Cheating Kittens. They have one of the best arenas in college basketball as far as creature comforts go and I can't say their program is in the best health, although Mike Anderson could change that.

Winning 5 out of 6 is "tanking"? This board is full of factually ignorant cheapshot artists tonight.

FACT: WSU has won 5 of 6
ALSO fact: WSU has won 5 of last 8
way to twist
FACT: 5 games were against the bottom five teams in the MVC
FACT: The 1 loss was against the only upper division team you played and you lost at home.
Fact:WSU is in fact 2-4 vs the the top 4 with 2 reamaining
FACT: AT one point WSU had the #1 RPI and was ranked 8th in the country.
Fact: NOW WSU has an RPI of 70. Are 4th in the conference and are alot closer to the NIT bubble than the NCAA bubble
Did I miss anything.

SIU already recruits so well that its scary to think about what they could do with a 12-14000 arena full every game for kids to see....I know they are fixing the old one up a bit, but how much polish can you put on a turd.

barkeep, if you insist on tanking this topic, please elaborate on these two sentences:
WSU, winners in 5 of the last 6 games, is tanking.
OR
Northern Iowa, winners in 1 of the last 7 games, is tanking.

I really don't see why there should be any other words than positive ones directed towards WSU in this thread. The thread starter didn't make any inciteful statements in his post, as he simply quoted a local article.
A typical classy poster response would go like this:
"nice! Glad to hear they liked the arena! I agree they did a good job with the renovation!"
Instead, many of you find ways to turn this thread into a negative one, and twist it around like someone is demeaning your athletic facilities. No one said that arena's win games/championships, etc. it is simply just a nice compliment towards WSU and their facilities. Seriously people, grow some class.

How many threads do we need like this?
1. Someone posts good information about WSU.
2. A few posters come along and intentionally attempt to derail the discussion.
Are people really that insecure?
Good grief. If you don't like the topic, don't post. Not that hard, and you'll reveal a whole lot less about yourself in the process.

So when Wichita goes to UCLA for a guarantee game sometime as they are prone to do, shall we call that a home-home?

As does Western Kentucky. Does that make them a great program?
