No offense to the redbirds but I expected a larger win by the shockers on their home court. I didn't listen to the game. Anyone have a summery?

Shockers were favored by 11.
ISU was right with them for most of the game. Even near the end it was only a 1 point game.
Rebounding was one of the major factors in this game. Shockers out boarded the Birds by 10 plus.
Also Shockers were much more aggressive on offense. Shockers shot 20 plus more fouls shots than the Redbirds.
Dyer lead the Birds in scoring with 22 points (9-12 from the field) Dilligard had 15 points and 7 boards.
I believe PJ lead the Shockers with either 17 points 6 boards. Bradley also had a really nice game for the Shockers

We played very well all day, gave a great effort and made the Shox earn it, but this game really came down to 4 big things IMHO:
1. Rebounding. WSU won that battle handily.
2. Free Throws. WSU outshot us 30-7 at the line.
3. We were down 11 with a little over 10 mins left in the game. We got on a 10-0 run to cut it to 1, and couldve taken the lead but missed a dunk at the end of that run. That couldve really changed the momentum for us.
4. We were down 1 with 1:13 left and the ball, but WSU forced a huge turnover. They iced it away at the line from there.
Another close-but-no-cigar game for my 'Birds. The Shox made plays down the stretch and we didnt. 18 straight road conference losses. We just cant seem to get over the hump. :banghead:

I hope this makes you feel better. On the post game show, Coach Turgeon literally gushed over your team. At one point he said the Red Birds have the best talent in the league. Then, he double clutched a little bit and said the Red Birds might be the most talented team in the league. He thinks, when the players "figure it out", then will be a very good team. He thinks the Red Birds will be very good next season.
Frankly, I am not sure how the Shockers won today. At crunch time, I thought the R-Birds would pull it out. The Birds never quit. The air finally went out of their balloon with about 1.5 seconds to go and Karon was shooting free throws.
I have liked Coach Moser from the first game I saw him coach. He burns a lot of calories, during the game. When the Bird missed the jam shot late in the game, he went running toward the student section with a big smile on his face. It was as if he was saying, "Darn it. I thought we had you". The students got a honk out of it.

The Redbirds are very young and talented. I wouldn't be suprised to see them play their first game in the tourney next year on Friday. Eldridge looks very promising for a freshman and Dyer is a great shooter for his size.

The Redbirds are very young and talented.
That's a misconception that some people have. The Redbirds have some talent on this team, but they are not a young team. They have 12 scholarship players on that team, 7 upperclassmen and 5 underclassmen. Youth cannot be used as an excuse for this team.
I wouldn't be suprised to see them play their first game in the tourney next year on Friday.
I should certainly hope so.......... considering it will be Porter's fifth year and he's never had a winning MVC record. At this point, a friday night game in STL next year should be more than expected.

Don't hold me to this, but I think it was A. Slack.
We missed one against SIU and it cost us.

Indeed it was Slack. I agree the 'Birds have veteran players, but 6 of them made their 1st trip to the Roundhouse today.
Next year the team will have many young players. All those guys will be sophomores or freshman (Rubin) and hopefully the two open 'ship will go to freshman post players.

We will also return Johnson, Slack, Richardson and Dyer. In addition to Holtz and Vandello. The Redbirds have a chance to make the top tier next season. That would be nice.
I apprfeciate the kind words from the Shocker faithful as well as Coach Turgeon. Very nice compliments he made.
