Looks like coach will get one more year. I think next year should definitely be a must win season. I think, returning all of our players, we should be in the top half of the conference or something is wrong. We showed at the end of the year we could compete, now we just have to put in the work over the off season and be ready to go next year.:aces:

yeah i hope Evill figures it out cuz the valley is getting tougher every year and with teams like Ill St. getting better recruits its going to be a struggle to pull themselves from the bottom.

Weren't there some disciplinary actions taken at the beginning of the season that shortened the roster? I think Merfeld was probably given some slack for being short-staffed in a very competitive conference.

I think that was last year where Merfeld had to remove those players from his roster.
I think the future is looking bright there, no reason to remove him now.

Coaching consistency is one of the biggest reasons the Valley has been so strong this year. I am curious, for those that think EU should or may move into the top half of the Valley next year, as to which teams do they expect to leapfrog?
CU, SIU, MSU and WSU all little or nothing and expect to be better next year. UNI and BU lose a fair amount (especially BU if POB goes) so I guess maybe those two, but it seems to me next year is going to be very similar to this year in that OOC most (if not all) teams are going to be very strong but when we get to the conference season, it could very well be more of the same. The bottom 4 just have a lot to do to leapfrop out of the playin games.

I do believe that Merfeld can lead UE to the top of the Valley. He rolled the dice on a couple of questionable recruits and got burned. I think Merfeld and the AD were looking for a quick fix and ended up getting burned. I realize any recruit is a possible?. Lets leave the known thieves alone. We are in a two year hole because of the incident on campus last year.
UE has one more scholarship to give for next season and then he has to replace four seniors the following season. Lets get back to the top of the Valley!!!

I think UE showed they could compete by playing good games against SIU, WSU, and UNI during the season. We played Bradley close here. I think that returning everyone with experience that we have to be able to beat the other bottom feeders and learn to win more against the top teams. WSU loses little but we lose nothing and hung with them both games this year. We went 1-2 against SIU, who I think loses no one as well. We played decently against UNI, who loses their best player. So basically to see UE move up two places, I fully expect the team to come out competing hard the entire season instead of just the end of it, and learning to win close games.
