Are the MVC semis going to be nationally televised?

Tomorrow is going to be one amazing day of basketball for me. So far, I have VMI-Winthrop and College of Charleston-Davidson slated to watch.

Unfortunately it's only on FSN Midwest, so if you have DirecTV, you can watch the games.

Elgin really needs to find a way to get more exposure for this tournament. It is really big time and would really help the national image of the conference.

CBS will televise the championship game, but if that game was like last year's it could be one of the worst games of the whole tourney.:valley:

The MVC is getting there, you have to walk before you run. Compared to even 5 years ago the MVC is getting a tremendously larger amount of exposure for the conference through consistent performance. Im sure Elgin has a plan that he is following that will continue the upward trend that the MVC is currently experiencing.

yup- a couple years ago- all these valley nationally televised games would be just unheard of, now just a big deal

The semis were on ESPN2 a few years back, weren't they?

They should at least be on ESPNU or something.

Nope, just the final.

I agree.

I'm quite positive I watched a Illinois State-SIU semifinal game in the mid 1990s on ESPN2. It was in the early days of the deuce. The cable company in Carbondale added ESPN2 for that day only. I'm not sure when they stopped showing the semis on ESPN2.

Maybe you're right. Was that when they had espn in all lower case letters and then like a whacky 2 next to it for their logo?

I didn't have ESPN2 then so I dunno, but it may have very well have happened. Something needs to happen again to where at least the semifinals are nationally available as well.

I live in the Midwest market, so I'll be watching the semis on FSN.

Why ?

Unless you have a dish and pay for the highest package and the sports pack you don't get it.

I get the U but I know there have been alot of people complaining that they don't.

They did have the wacky logo you describe. I think Suzy Kolber may have been involved in the broadcast as well.

Yes they were. There was a time when the Valley semis were on the deuce and the championship game was on espn.

Some time in the recent past we lost the semis on the deuce. The worst year was when we even lost the championship game on espn (it was on the deuce). That was the low point for the Valley and it was just a few years ago.

I agree that the semis and even a quarter final game or two should be back on espn2 or espnU.

BTW- the hotel I was staying at when CU and WSU played last week still didn't have the deuce, they only had regular espn. :valley:

Because even though many people can't get it, espnU is still available in more homes than FSN-MIDWEST.

Obviously I would prefer to see the games on espn2, but if that isn't available then CSTV or espnU would at least get us more exposure than FSN-Midwest.

Another option might be to get the games on more FSN regional networks than just FSN-MIDWEST.

Yup...remember the Bradley/SMS game where the Braves hit that crazy shot at the buzzer? That was on the 'old' Deuce.

I wouldn't want them on ESPNU. The most overhyped network on the planet, does no good if no one can see it. At least FSN-MW has worked w/the league for a lot of yrs, been there even when the league wasn't great. Would rather they have the games than ESPNU.

Even the Horizon League semis are on ESPNU. The least they could do was to have the MVC semis on that network as well.

First off, I think you are wrong about the semis ever being on the duece. Maybe they were but I dont think so. The reason that FOXMW has these games and not the U is that our tv package reaches a lot more homes than the U does. At this point it would be a terrible business decision to have our semis on the U. Now, if the duece could be had for the semis that would be great, but its better for the Valley that the semis are on FoX than the U. I have some friends at the Valley office and I will ask one of them if we were ever on the duece for the semis.

I've never understood why Fox Sports doesn't show more college games on more of their afiliates. There are so many great games on the regional fox sports channels. It's like they'd rather show reruns of poker than actual games on fox sports.

I know the valley semis this afternoon would be better than whatever crap they're showing on most of the various regional fox sports channels.

That is something I'd like to see pursued, more MVC games nationally on FSN. Not sure how the Pac-10/ACC would like that, though.

Wherever they're televised, Mitch Holthus needs to stay as the Play-by-play guy. The Voice of the Valley does a terrific job on the broadcasts.

Yes the semis were on the deuce. I remember watching them.

Second, espnU is available in more homes then FOXMW (even when all of the FOXMW cable systems show our game- the MVC game is quite often pre-empted by other local sports such as Kstate games in Kansas, Missouri games in Missouri, UNL games in Nebraska, Indiana Pacers games in Indiana etc).

EspnU is now in over 9 million homes and is growing. (espn is in 93 million, and espn2 in 92 million).

CSTV, another option, is available in 20 million homes.

The maximum reach of FOX SPORTS-MW is 4.3 million (again that is only if all of the local cable systems are showing the Valley game) in parts of six states.

The total reach of all 20 FOX SPORTS regional networks is something like 82 million. So getting on more of the FOX SPORTS regions could greatly increase our exposure.:valley:
