View Full Version : The Abyss
Who is falling into it?
Nice season Shockers! Nothing like the team quitting down the stretch and finishing on a 5 game slide. Impressive coaching by the best coach in the league. You could have paid a coach a lot less than $750,000 for that. At least Altman can coach the Jays to the NIT in their down years. From Sweet 16 to probably no post-season. WSU is the epitome of one hit wonder - the Crazy Town of the Valley. Are you still focusing on national championships? If so, maybe need to lower your focus to actually making the tournament more than once every 7 years. Indiana State has made more NCAA tournaments this decade than the Shocks!
(Dislcaimer: This is focused only to the WSU fans who were spewing the "class of the valley", "best coach in the valley", "SIU and CU falling into the abyss", etc. crap earlier in the season and since last season. Karma is a b*tch.)

I figured a CU fan would start this thread. Part of me thinks even if we do get an NIT bid, then we shouldn't take it. It would be a big F you to the Valley. That would be pretty funny. But I would also like to see some of the players get a few more games in. Next year looks somewhat promising as well.

I think that you should go back and find the smack that I supposedly talked and post it on this thread. The only real smack I talked was to JerryBearSeinfeld, and he's a moron. So please, bring back the trash that I am accused of talking earlier this year when we were on our rampage through the non-con.

If you get a bid to the NIT with a first round game at home, take it so Cold can come back here with some new story of sexual conquest.   :innocent:

I didn't know that this type of stuff was allowed anymore. If you want stories about sexual conquests, I have hundreds of them! Here's one:
I always thought the stories in Penthouse were made up, but this really happened to me. Just the other day, I was at Burger King, minding my own business. Out of nowhere, this hot blonde, just out of high school got in line behind me. I couldn't help but notice the seductive scent of her perfume, nor the low-cut top that showed off her above average assets. As I paid for my value meal, and as I was about to find a table, I heard her ask the person behind the counter what she could buy for $.79, it was all she had. Well I couldn't let this damsel in distress starve, so I offered to buy her lunch. She was shy and reluctant, but I insisted. I asked her to sit with me and she agreed.

I think it would be quite funny. I also think it would be somewhat humorous if the Valley teams went 1 and done in the Tourney this year. But I can't wish that on any of the Valley teams.
BTW, Creighton is going to dominate SIU tonight!!:jays:

Bird, you find four irrefutable instances of the players quitting. Meanwhile, I'll prove that injuries to at least four players had a substantial impact on the teams' fortunes.
The only impact Karma had on this season was that they avoided those injuries and close losses last year.
I understand your vile is convenient to spew, but is it true or is your logic driven by hate?

If you are going to be so sensitive, maybe you should stay off the TRASH TALK forum. This forum is here for a reason. And, I don't want to hear any WSU fan bitching about injuries after the crap CU fans took last year from some WSU fans about how injuries have no affect on a team. CU has had 10 times the injury problems as the Shockers and has still made the post-season every year for a decade (Tyler McKinney for a year, Funk for a year, Porter for a year, Dotzler out for about a month and still not fully healed, Morrison with Graves disease, Kenny Lawson out all of this year). Good coaches and programs find a way to deal with injuries.
Maybe the team didn't quit, maybe they are just that bad - after all, they did lose 4 straight earlier in the year.

So you're really not confident in your assertion that the team quit. I see. You just thought it sounded cool to throw that out there? Your comments were more about revenge for the past three years than making an accurate, thoughtful assessment of the situation. I see. Nice work. Bravo.
For their sake, I hope you are not a product of the Creighton School of Law.
You got me - I wanted revenge, I'm just not sure why I wanted it. Here I thought I was just having some fun on a TRASH TALK forum serving up big helpings of crow to those WSU fans who thought WSU was the class of the Valley, Turg was the best coach in the Valley and SIU and CU had plateud and were heading to the abyss. I thought I made that clear with the disclaimer in my post. My how short WSU fans' memory seems to be now that things aren't going so good. Its really not that fun if you guys are going to be so touchy about things.
As to WSU quitting, losing 5 straight to end the season when a post-season opportunity is on the line screams a team quit or they aren't very good. I don't care to spend enough time analyzing which option applies to make a thoughtful assessment of the situation. If I cared to do that, I wouldn't have posted in the TRASH TALK forum. Altough a team that only won 5 games against the RPI Top 100 and 3-7 against the top half of the Valley maybe just isn't very good, I just didn't want to believe that godTurggod couldn't coach his team to win a couple of those last 5. Thus, I made an assumption that the team quit. Sorry if that hurt your feelings.
For your sake, I hope you didn't get a psych degree from WSU.

Yes, bad season for WSU for the most part.
But, there is light:
WSU was, at one time, ranked #8 this season.
Has CU ever been, at any time in it's history, ranked that high?

Don't think he's offering it up as an excuse.
He's correcting Bird's false assumption that players "quit".
Ogirri didn't "quit", he sprained the hell out of his ankle and sat out the majority of the remaining minutes in the season.
Besides, a few Shocker fans don't speak for all Shocker fans.
Would you like it if we started assuming you stand 100% behind everything Dawgiestyle says?

Well, we did reach #9 during Korver's senior year, but the thing is, we maintained our national ranking the entire year and didn't piss it down our leg once we had the huge target on our back.

Good point.
Creighton hasn't even been ranked 8 or higher, then pissed it away!
In fact, there is no scenario in which Creighton has ever been ranked as high as WSU was this year.
WSU has been ranked 8 or higher several times. So this year wasn't even our single greatest moment in the polls.
You're still making CU look like quite the diploma mill.
There is not doubt WSU was very high in the polls during the 1960's and a few years in the 1980's. Davidson, Idaho, St. Joseph's, and San Francisco were also highly ranked programs at that time. None of them are real relevant to today's basketball landscape (except St. Joseph's one year). But, it is something to hand your hat on when things haven't gone so well for 20+ years. Hey, CU was the top ranked team in the nation for several weeks (yes, ranked higher than #8) and was considered by the AP to be national champions in 1942-43 and made the NCAA tourney in 1941 when there were only 8 teams that made the tourney (essentially making the Elite 8, and finishing 5th), but I don't really consider those relevant to today's basketball landscape either.
So you are taking great pride in the #8 ranking this year? Ok, let's look back at the basis for the #8 ranking - a 9-0 record with wins on the road as supposedly good teams LSU, Syracuse and George Mason. LSU has since shown they are not good (16-14, RPI 92), Syracuse is average (21-9, RPI 90), and George Mason is not very good (18-14, RPI 120). Starting 9-0 was impressive (even if 5 of the wins were against RPI 200+ or DII teams) and WSU probably deserved to be in the 30-25 ranking area.
I think most would agree that the #8 ranking was a seriously inflated and artifical ranking based on nothing but the names on the jerseys of the teams WSU beat. Once WSU faced good competition, the true team showed its colors, with a 4 game losing streak, a separate 5 game losing streak, 4 losses to 100+ RPI teams and a losing MVC record. But hey, if you can sleep better at night based on being ranked #8 in December, at the same time Connecticut was ranked #11, Alabama was #10, LSU was #12, and Ok. State was #15, feel free. Heck, SIU hasn't reached #8 in the polls this year, so WSU must have had a better season than SIU. :ermm:
In fact, there is no scenario in which Creighton has ever been ranked as high as WSU was this year.
As stated above, not true. However, CU's higher rankings are about as relevant today as WSU's "numerous" rankings in the top 8. I'm glad you feel that trash talk on Valleytalk is a reflection of CU being a "diploma mill", since trash talking on a forum is meant to be so intellectual.

I'm not taking great pride in the #8 ranking, but it is at least something good about the year.
Let's look at your post, though.
Using your logic, CU is no better than Fresno State, NU, or DePaul this year.
I mean, you're saying teams never change throughout the course of a year, so I guess it's indisputable.
But thanks for another point.
CU can't even be ranked #8 in the modern basketball era on a "seriously inflated and artifical ranking based on nothing but the names on the jerseys of the teams [CU] beat"!
In other words, at no time has CU been able to be even questionably ranked #8 or better!
Will CU hand their diploma to just anyone?
I'm glad you feel that trash talk on Valleytalk is a reflection of CU being a "diploma mill", since trash talking on a forum is meant to be so intellectual.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you have your intelligence on a switch that you can just turn on and off. That's it.
But, I'll answer your question with another: Why would I need the Trashtalk forum to say that CU is a diploma mill when I've got Kevin Ross?
It seems to me you are taking great pride in the #8 ranking - its your entire focus in this thread. I doubt LSU fans are looking back on the season and saying, "Hey, at least we were ranked in the Top 15 back in December." I guess it does go along with some WSU fans' focus on perception v. reality and worrying more about media attention than actually having a good basketball team and program.
You are right and way smarter than I, a legit #10 ranking sixteen games into the season, #12 ranking 23 games into the season and #19 final ranking are so much worse and can't be compared to an inflated and artifical #8 ranking 9 games into the season when it took WSU all of 2 weeks to go from #8 to not ranked and 3 weeks to receive zero votes. I'm sure the team that finishes this season #10 will be deemed not as good as WSU this season if they didn't reach #8 in the polls during the year.
What does DePaul have to do with CU? I'm not saying teams don't change throughout the season, I am saying early season rankings are worthless because they are largely based on the names on the front of the jerseys and not true abilities of the teams. I think most people realize this. :banghead:
