Hey, word on campus here at Drake is that Dr. Tom is resigning today. I hope that this is made up, but I could see it happening. Has anyone else heard anything?

WHO Radio was reporting the same thing this morning. Welcome to the Keno Davis Era....

I don't know about Keno. It seems to be a step backwards.

I could see Drake pulling a young coach from another system to get his career started.
Be a good place to start.

That's sad. Dr. Tom is a legend.

That is true, but basically the reason Dr. Tom came to Drake was to get Keno a Head Coaching job when the Dr. chose to leave. Almost guaranteed that Keno will be the next coach. :helpsmilie:

They already announced Keno was the next Drake head coach when Dr. Tom steps down. I think they announced it about 1/2 a year ago. So if Dr. Tom is out then Keno is in for sure.
I don't know what I think about him. Obiously he hasn't had a head coaching job yet, so you never know. I'm guessing you will see about the same style the old man had.

He looks almost identical to Dr (except about 30 years younger), maybe he will be a similiar coach. I hope that they keep the Dr. on though, mainly for recruiting. He does a heck of a job.

It will be interesting to watch this one. I was told several weeks ago that the new Drake AD already told Tom and Keno that Keno taking over is no longer an automatic deal. I honestly cannot even remember who my source is other than it was someone very close to the program. Does it matter to me? Absolutely not.

At Dr. Tom's age, it is called retiring, not resigning.

This is the first I've heard of any of this. As far as I'm concerned, it's all rumors until I see something from the media, and no Des Moines news outlet is reporting this from what I can find. bcrawf, I know you said WHO radio reported the same thing, but I haven't been listening to them and they're not reporting it on their website.
I'd be absolutely floored if anyone but Keno is the next Drake coach.

I'd like to see The Doctor stay for one more year. He has a good nucleus coming back and his work is not yet done. He needs to take Drake to the top six of the MVC and into the post-season. After he does that next year, then he can resign.

Drake sports information director Mike Mahon denied a Des Moines radio station report that Drake coach Tom Davis has decided to retire. Davis led Drake to a 17-15 record, the Bulldogs' first winning season in since 1987.
Drake has already announced its succession plan once Davis does retire. His son and current assistant Keno Davis will take over.
That's some quality reporting by WHO. I hate that radio station. Was Mike Mahon really the highest ranking Drake official they could talk to?

Your right that is pretty much par for the course for all Des Moines media...:bulldogs:

If half of what WHO radio reported was accurate, everybody in central Iowa would have died over the last 10 years from Tornadoes, floods, blizzards and hurricanes.

At least they report on that stuff there. Try finding weather coverage in St. Louis during a storm. Forget it--they won't even bother to break into taped shows. Thank goodness for XM.

Not right now apparently. I'm sure he'll retire some day.

I haven't heard anything on this but if it's true, I'm sure the officials in the Valley had something to do with it.
