Over the last few days, a lot of journalists and analysts have been critical of the selection committee for snubbing teams that they felt deserved to be in over other teams. A lot of this talk also focused on what they feel should change about the tournament as it stands today.
Here are my thoughts on possible changes that could be implemented:
1) Expand to 68 teams, and have Tuesday be the play-in session where the last 8 at-large bids play four games for four 12 seeds. Eliminate all conference champions from the play-in games.
2) Eliminate all teams with a losing record in their conference from at-large consideration. You must be .500 or better if you want to get an at-large berth.
3) Somehow seperate out the NCAA tournament from the NIT tournament. I feel it is a huge conflict of interest for the NCAA to select both tournaments. Since the NCAA needs to get a big draw to the NIT as well, they might feel pressured to leave out a team from the NCAA's and put them in the NIT to increase their draw.
