GO DAWGS!!! Even though I'm an ACES poster, I have an undisclosed interest in the Dawgs as well!!

SIU 56 Holy Cross 43

* HC hasn't seen defense like SIU's yet

If Randal isn't having any asthma attacks and is ready to go, we should be in good shape, if he's out of it like he was in St. Louis, we might be in some trouble. Either way, I have a lot of respect for that HC team and this wont be an easy game. Lets do it Dawgs!!!!:salukis:

This games scares my pants off. I really hope that SIU doesn't overlook Holy Cross.
I predict a close game and a heart attack for me!
64-62 SIU

That is way to high scoring for SIU. The 60s? Not a chance. The game will be like 50-32 SIU wins.

SIU wins, 70-57. Holy Cross is a very good team, but they won't be able to survive against SIU.

The Skinny Dawgs roll out a smothering defense and produce a result not seen since the peach-basket era, winning 17-10.

Seriously, I say SIU by 7, 52-45.

you do realize these are 2 of the better defensive teams in the tourney right?

I don't see either cracking 60, let alone 70.

I think SIU wins this game. Obviously, the selection committe has at least gotten the seeds right, if not the field. I don't care how much they win by. Just win, baby. Bring on the ACC or the Big 11.

I got SIU by about 15-20. This is the fourth trip for Tatum and Young and the rest of the team (even Mullins) has been through this before. I also think that some of the national media picking Holy Cross was good for them, combined with the Creighton loss in the MVC final, I think they are hungry and will blow Holy Cross away. By the first TV timeout the Crusaders are going to be saying Holy something, but it is not going to be Cross.

Halftime - SIU: 32 - HC: 16
Final - SIU: 59 - HC: 44

Marquette/Mich. St, Ohio State/Xavier, and now potentially SIU/Illinois and Pitt/UCLA

The theme of coaches going up against the schools that they left/had affiliations with will continue. With Illinois winning, I feel even more sure that the Salukis will pull it out.

Bring on Bruce.

kyyle23
03-16-2007, 09:19 PM
You know, SIU's offense is much maligned, and rightfully so sometimes. But this offense the Illini are running is just awful, they have looked awful in the second half

That little f'er was rooting Shaw out again...Shaw landed on him again but this time he landed on his foot again. Little prack...

Hope he comes back...seems like the Saluki's have this game under control somewhat...at least in terms of comparing it to CU's earlier game. Tempo...defense...ref's seem decent so far...just cut back on the TO's and it's a date w/ Va Tech.

Hope they win to get my spirits back up...

kyyle23

Holy Cross is fouling alot, Vanden Baan already has three. Clifford has been in and out with fouls and turnovers, Simmons has been completely shadowed the whole night. SIU has controlled the game, they just havent been able to knock down many open shots. They are running though, and Holy Cross is obviously affected by SIU's style of play. HC has a good defense though, they have alot of steals just by cutting off lanes and having active arms. Its a good game so far, I hope SIU begins to pull away after halftime.

They haven't shown 5 seconds of it here in Kansas. They assume we want to watch the 8/9 matchup featuring Kentucky.

This is real frustrating, they are showing the Villanova-Kentucy game in Kansas. Like anyone here would care about that game.

With only 2 Valley teams in the dance you would think they would find a way to give us both games in Kansas. (Most of the CU game was shown in Wichita earlier today). :valley: :salukis:

Go Salukis!

I'm in Springfield and they wont stop flipping between UK and Nova and USC and Arkansas. I'm about to throw something.

And I cant watch it online because CBS claims the SIU game is being played on my local affiliate... WRONG! It's not on the HD "Over the air" CBS, the regular "Over the air" cbs or the local cable CBS.

Try living on the East Coast. I get NY City stations here and I don't think they ever even HEARD of the STATE OF ILLINOIS, much less SIU in Hoops. I MIGHT get to see them if they make the final 4....as long as it doesn't get pre-empted by Syracuse in the NIT.

Thank you CBS for showing us the whole final minute of the SIU-HC game.

All we got to see was a couple of fouls and SIU run the clock out. I sure hope CBS lets us see more of the SIU-VaTech rematch on Sunday.

BTW- Congrats Salukis for the win. (Even if I didn't get to see it) Good Luck on Sunday!

I tried that but couldn't get it to work on my computer. I just watched the little score at the top of the corner of the TV hoping they would switch to the SIU game so I could see it (like they did this afternoon, showing us more than half of the CU game).

I am going to complain to our local CBS station, KWCH. There is no excuse in Valley country to be showing us VILLANOVA-KENTUCKY instead of a Valley game.

Most years it seems we get bumped by a big 12 game (I don't like that either, but at least there is some reason to show a big 12 game in Wichita, there is NO excuse for showing Kentucky and Villanova in Wichita over a game with a Valley team). :valley: :salukis:

Great job, way to carry the flag for the league. Valley showed well again.

How's Shaw, hope he is okay. Boyle was real good tonight, but SIU will need the outside shooting of MS on Sunday.

Aegyptus
03-17-2007, 12:31 AM
Not a bad game. Salukis were pretty much in control the second half. The Shaw injury is a BIG DEAL. Can you really count on Boyle again. I mean I watched many SIU games this year and usually, I would not have let Boyle play on my kid's grade school team! I think the difference was tonight he was facing the kind of competition he was meant to face, the Patriot League. Can he do that against the ACC - I doubt it. I am going to have to get a little HGH to Columbus ...asap.

congrats to the 'Dawgs on a great win. HC is a good team and they came out aggressive and played extremely hard. I think they got worn down at the end though...a lot of their shots were falling short down the stretch. Boyle was a man posessed. Huge lift coming off the bench and making plays. If he dosent step up the way he did, that couldve been a different game.

The times for Sunday have not yet been announced. The opening line of the AP article on today's game:

I posted something similar on Salukitalk - but it is important.

I am sorry, Tony Boyle.

How could I have doubted you? Every cleanup bucket, every hustle play, every free throw (well, most of them) was yours.

Thank godshawgod!

Tony Boyle for POY - if you'd told me pregame that TB would be our leading scorer, I would have conceded we had lost. I was wrong wrong wrong.

I just hope the "holy" cross jerk who undercut shaw burns in hell. How many times can you poke players in the eye, etc? Maybe it's just the devoted fan in me, but I was pissed off at the hack jobs in this game. Ironic from a Saluki fan, eh?
